Summer in the French Style Guest Bedroom

7.16.2018

How was your weekend? I had mentioned that I might be working on a project over the weekend, but it never happened so maybe I'll do it one day this week between doctor and hair appointments. Oh, how I cannot wait to get my hair done. All this heat and humidity is making it unruly.
The project involves something in this room, but since I didn't get to it I'm going to go ahead and share how this room looks now.

Summer in the French Style Guest Bedroom

The room is decorated in blue and white again like it was in last year's white and bright summer guest room, but with updated bedding and accessories. Y'all know I love pillows and bedding.

The only new things are the beautiful crisp white duvet with the prettiest blue embroidery and the blue checked shams which were also on sale. The shams had me at blue and checks and the cutest ties. It's all about the details.

Look how pretty the embroidery is. I bought this on sale from Pottery Barn. Such a steal for nice bedding especially when free shipping was offered that day. I know I buy a lot of bedding from Pottery Barn, but you get so much for the money. I look at other bedding sites who want hundreds of dollars for their bedding and a lot of the times it isn't any better than the ones I have gotten from Pottery Barn and no, I'm not paid to say this.

Who's afraid to mix patterns? Not me. The main thing to do when mixing patterns is to have a common color in all the patterns such as the blue I am using here. Then mix stripes, checks, florals, etc. and mix big patterns with smaller patterns.

Oh, yea and these nice white shams with the ruffles are the ones I bought in Fairhope, Alabama when we were on vacation there a few weeks ago. I thought they were vintage, but they're not, but that's alright I didn't give much for them and I love the crisp white cotton.

When I found these on sale on the Les Indiennes web site I knew they would be perfect on this bed and they could even show up later in another room.

This is where one of my vintage sconces ended up after they moved from the fireplace last year.

Miss Bailey says if you come and stay in the guest room she may just want to crash with you. 😉

I hope this guest bedroom gave you some inspiration you can use in your own home.

Here's to a great week!

  8. My goodness Kim. What a lovely and inviting guest retreat. Whoever is lucky enough to stay in that room may not want to leave. The pillow cases are so pretty with the delicate pintucking detail. And the bedding with the blue embroidered trim is absolutely gorgeous. You have done a phenomenal job on this room. Kathy

  11. Kim, it would just make my day if you would devote one of your post to sharing nothing but shopping websites you use to purchase items. I'd never even hear of Les Indiennes until now but I'm browsing their site between writing this. You're good about giving the site if you feature an item but a list of shopping sites would be wonderful! Maybe not for my credit card but oh, well! lol!

    1. Jan, I don't really shop a lot of home websites. I just occasionally come acrosss an item like you did on mine and then I check that site out. Sometimes I find something I can afford and sometimes not. The place I shop the most is Pottery Barn for bedding and pillows. I don't push shopping posts like some bloggers do as I don't do affiliates like many and I'm not getting offered any products to promote. Thanks

  13. Kim, I am wondering is this bed a queen or a king? Wondering if you order a king size for a queen bed so that it hangs lower? Love and adore this room. Thanks, Stella

  14. This room is gorgeous! I just went to the Les Indiennes website and can't seem to find those beautiful blue and white plaid shams (w/ the ties). Do you know if they are still available? Do you have details on them? I would appreciate it so much. I found the embroidered duvet on PB. Thank you!

  16. I ordered the shams and got them today. Love them! And went to PB and bought the duvet. I can't quite figure out what kind of quilt to use. Details on yours and the other 2 pillow on the bed? I LOVE it so much. This is for our master bedroom. Just graduated to a king and need new bedding, and when I saw this, knew this was it! Thanks for all the info. Love your blog.

    1. The quilt is the pick stitch quilt from Pottery Barn. The white shams were purchased in a shop while out of town.
