The Summer Mantel

7.03.2018

It doesn't take much to change the mantel decor seasonally. It's as simple as grabbing things from around the house and maybe adding one new item for a fresh look. At least that's the way I did mine.

The Summer Mantel

I shared the simple summer styled great room recently and in keeping with the French coastal decor I added a few coastal inspired items to the mantel.

When I bought this original oil painting from the shop I shared yesterday I wasn't sure where I would use it, but when I got home I knew it would be perfect on the mantel in place of the green and brown colored canvas I had here before. The colors and theme of this one is perfect in here.

I grabbed this old clam shell and filled it with a tiny faux fern, also bought in the same shop, and I tucked in some moss.

This painting is old and the nails give that away. Plus the back is very old looking. New canvases are stapled.

It is also signed.

To pull the colors from the painting and the rest of the room I added some of my sea glass colored vintage bottles and an old teal colored seltzer bottle.

I pick these bottles up when I'm antiquing.

Funny thing, while I was retaking some photos Mr. Savvy was home and sitting in his chair. He told me he just loves the orchid on the coffee table. I told him it isn't real and he said, "I don't care I really love it there and it needs to stay there forever."
Forever?? Yea, like that's going to happen. 😉
He normally doesn't say much about how things are decorated.

Happy decorating!

  3. Really pretty, Kim! You have beautiful things to grab.

You should come give me advice for my mantel and hearth that I shared today. It's stone and huge! I can't decide what to do so I haven't done anything.

  7. So calming, light and summery! I always do a little touch of coastal summery on my mantle as well. I had to laugh at Mr. Savvy's comment on the orchid.

My hubby doesn't often voice his opinions either when it comes to décor but recently he surprised me on a trip to HomeGoods. He spotted two matching gray, swivel counter stools. I had been looking to replace our old stools for a while and wanted something more cleaner and modern looking. So I took his advice, bought them and he was right..they look great!!

  14. Is your new painting a Monet? Look at the signature. If not Claud, it's beautiful anyway.

    1. No, I'm sure the shop wouldn't have been selling a Monet for as cheap as I got that.
