A Before And After

8.06.2018

Did y'all have a good weekend? I have a before and after to share with you today. I was finally able to work on a project and it was something I haven't done in a very long time. I use to paint furniture fairly often, but then I got busy with other things. This small chest that I inherited a couple of years ago was not in great condition so I had no problem painting it. I think the room it is in needs this pop of color, too. Today I'm sharing the chest and will share the room after I refresh it a bit. I have actually had the bedding for this room since spring so I'm looking forward to using it.

Isn't this green pretty?

This is the before and it may look great in this photo, but there are bad scratches, pieces of wood missing, screws added in the top and it was just in need of some love.

I don't know if my dad was trying to fix this or if he purchased it this way.

I used Miss Mustard Seeds Milk Paint in Boxwood Green. This is after two coats and before adding the hemp oil. I let the paint dry for one day before using the oil.

Many of you who haven't been reading my blog for a long time may not know that when we built our home in 1995 my master bedroom and bathroom were green and white. My bedroom walls and carpet were green and then I had green and white bedding and window treatments. The bathroom was wallpapered in a print that had green in it along with gold, burgandy and black. So even now when I see a pretty green I'm really drawn to it.

After applying the hemp oil it really deepens the color to a richer hue. These handles were going to be to difficult to remove so I just painted over them and then used Rub N Buff. This is before adding the gold.

There wasn't a lot of chipping that can take place with milk paint, but a few spots did chip off.

So that's what I worked on this weekend. Stay tuned for the full reveal.

Wishing y'all an awesome week!

  6. Very pretty makeover Kim and I love the color. I have never used any of the MMS milk paints but I do love Annie Sloan's chalk paint line and the colors. I just finished a antique bed in AS French Linen and it turned out beautiful.
