He was on the ground when Mr. Savvy told me to get the camera and he flew up and landed on that branch. He just sat there and waited. And watched. And waited some more. He stayed a long time and then he was gone. He is a big one, too. I took this picture from my sunroom window with full zoom. My windows really are filthy. I need to clean them soon if I am going to keep taking pictures through them. I am using my Canon Power Shot SX 120. Seems to take pretty good pictures. This tree is out past my pond. Mr. Savvy was amazed at how good this zoom worked to make him look so close. Look at the water droplets on the branches. According to my bird book this fellow is a red shouldered hawk.
This is a picture of daffodils in a yard in my mom's subdivision. Just thought I would leave you with this sunny spring picture.
I am joining A Southern Daydreamer blog for Outdoor Wednesday. Please be sure and check out the other outdoor photos this week. With spring here now I am sure we will be seeing some lovely photos.

ReplyDeleteA Hawk...lol I thought it was an OWL, I did question it and thought no it's an owl! OOPS I need a bird book!
ReplyDeleteThat hawk is beautiful. They really are a magnificent bird until they try to take your dog. I am speaking from experience here. Watch Bailey if you see him around! I love the daffodils! They are my favorite flower. So cheery! I have always called them buttercups, but them someone said there are buttercups and daffodils aren't buttercups. I don't care. I love 'em!
ReplyDeleteOH DUH!! Can I read?? I thought it was an owl!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a technique I use often but didn't realize it! It's the dirty window technique..

ReplyDeleteKim, I love hawks! Sometimes they land in our backyard searching for a snack AND sometimes we find evidence that they found found their snack. They leave behind a little pile of feathers from the struggle. Oh well, food chain. All those bunnies had better watch out.
ReplyDeleteWe had two Barred Owls last spring which was quite a thrill!

He's some bird and you did great getting this shot of him! And the daffodils are such a pretty spring picture!
ReplyDeleteJemsmom is right Kim. This is so ironic. I was outside with my minischnauzer(she's 9mos) Monday when she was doing her business in the yard. The birds close by got quiet all of a sudden and then a hawk swooped down close to Scarlet. It was so close I could hear it's feathers swoop the grass! I was shocked but in awe all at the same time. We have a ton of hawks around here, I used to watch more when Scarlet was smaller(she's like 16 lbs now), so I need to be on my game again! Great pic and congrats on the new camera!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you found my blog;)...I have been following you for a while and I just adore your site!
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Have a wonderful day!
XOXO
Cathy
Hi Kim, I found your blog a few weeks ago! Your home is gorgeous, and that is such a great pic of the hawk and flowers! I'm sure you already are careful with your little Yorkie's, but wanted to tell you those hawks can grab one of those little babies and take off in no time. I have two larger Yorkie's but I still watch for hawks and owls when they are out because I have heard they can take off with an animal as large as 15 pounds!! Your Yorkie's are adorable by the way!!!! Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful pics!
