It is hard to get a good full view of this in this narrow spot so there will be different angles .
This shows the vignettes on the top and bottom with just some stuff from around the house.
I use this piece for extra storage.
I took out the original glass in the doors and added decorative brass chicken wire I ordered on line and I stapled in this red checked fabric from Hobby Lobby.
I also heavily distressed this piece. It was originally brown and I painted it red a few years ago.

These are two drawings we had done at a charity ball in 1999.
I love the whimsy of these two drawings for others to enjoy when they see them
by the powder room.

This never did look like me in the face. Even the people I worked with then said it did not look like me, but he did capture what I love to do!!
He did a much better job of capturing Mr. Savvy and all his glory. He use to play golf regularly, but now has moved on to his new hobby of restoring old muscle cars. This shows him standing in water to make his shot!
I bought this bee print at Hobby Lobby a few years ago and I just recently repainted and glazed the old brass frame.
Close up of the detail
This is the best full shot I could get from our bedroom doorway.
I am linking to Tabletop Tuesdays over at A Stroll Thru Life hosted by Marty and Furniture Friday over at Miss Mustard Seed and Sue Loves Cherries on Wednesday for Rednesday party and Power of Paint at Domestically Speaking on Wednesday.

Hello Kim ~ I just recently became a follower of your blog. I am enjoying all your great tips and ideas! Loved the info about how you and Mr. Savvy built your beautiful home....and the hutch looks great in the hallway!
ReplyDeleteThe hutch looks great. I have wanted to re-do my spice cabinet and I wanted take out the existing panels and add chicken wire but I didn't want to see the spices, I also wasn't sure if I wanted to paint it or not and if so what color to do. Now I know exactly what I am going to do!!!!!! Thanks so much for solving my decorating dilema:) Thanks so much for the sweet comment you left on my blog too!!!!
ReplyDelete:) Michelle
I have always loved that piece of furniture. It's even better that it came from Mr. Savvy's family. I think the transformation you gave it with the red paint, fabric and chicken wire is fantastic. You made it look more current without taking away it's original charm. It looks like it's always been that way. I think it looks great in that hallway too. It adds an unexpected pop of color when you come around the corner.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a pretty hutch! I'm glad you found a new spot for it. Looks like a great spot for it!
ReplyDeleteManuela

ReplyDeleteBeautiful hutch, I love the color. It looks great in the hallway, so glad you found a spot your happy with.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great hutch. So glad you found a spot for it. It looks so nice there and picks up the color of the sofa in the next room. Love that elegantly framed little rooster picture in your hutch, and love the fabric on the doors. laurie
ReplyDeleteLove the red! I want to do the same thing with chicken wire when we finally put cabinets in the cabin's kitchen! Thanks for becoming a follower, I am doing the same!
ReplyDeleteI adore that red hutch! You did a fantastic job on that frame. I haven't tried glazing before. In fact, the reason I usually decoupage things is because I'm not good at all with paint. I'm lucky when I can get spray paint on a piece! Your home is so lovely. And those floors are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Kim, I love the red hutch. What flair you have girl.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim!
ReplyDeleteThat hutch is just so cute. Everything on it looks just right. And I love it in the halway. I have my antique china cabinet in the hallway at the top of our stairs and I just love it being there.
Have a wonderful day.
Hi Kim! I am behind in my blog reading:( Trying to catch up some tonight.
ReplyDeleteI love the red. I have a lot of red in my home and it is just a wonderful pop of color. I know that the piece is special since it was your husband's mothers piece.
Very nice.
You know, Kim, that red hutch is so wonderfully done and is a "magnet piece" in any room. I love the tone of red. The richness reminds me of the "Concord Red" from Behr, or, Lady Bug Red (Ben Moore) with antiquing enhancing it. Stunning...Just Stunning! Karen
ReplyDeleteLove the color of the hutch, and the aging is just perfect, it looks realistic and not too over the top at all. Great job, anyone would be proud to display that in their home!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where that was going to live. I think it's gorgeous! Love what you did with it.
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty! Makes me want to paint something red!
ReplyDeleteGreat little hutch. Looks like you found the perfect spot for it. I'll have to come back by and check out the other rooms!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
That is an absolutely wonderful cabinet! I love the details- the brass chicken wire and gingham.
ReplyDeleteWe also have one of those celebrity pictures. My husband got it at an event, I couldnt go because I was too pregnant at the time. Ours is Lucille Ball I think, now Im going to ask him to unearth it from his treasures and think about using it somewhere in our home.
That hutch is very striking in its red colour and looks perfect in its new spot. Certainly, with its special meaning to your family, you couldn't get rid of it. Very nice vignettes you've done on top and in it too. I really like that "Bee picture" beside it and the way you've updated the brass frame - I need to do that to some of my frames!
ReplyDeleteDD
Oh my goodness I'm SO loving that hutch...I'm REALLY loving it...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful hutch! It really looks great! And, it looks great in its new home!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, i have always loved your hutch. I love how you put the chicken wire on.That looks like a great spot for it....Kathy

ReplyDeleteSo love how you incorporated chicken wire and red printed fabric instead of the glass on the doors. So beautiful how you also accent with bird-themed items such as nest and house to give it a charming feel. Love your post.

ReplyDeleteLove that red hutch. Thanks for stopping by my blog! And that porch is Judith's. She was nice enough to let me borrow it. I asked her if I could use it on my header and she graciously said yes. It's only my dream porch.
