First these chairs were brown just like the deck. Now they wear a lovely coat of tomato red spray paint.
The little metal table between them went from brown to black with spray paint, too. Much better.
By the way these chairs rock, too.
Now let's add some colorful outdoor cushions. The seat cushions I bought last year from Pottery Barn during their clearance sale for 50% off. Hooray! The lantern was spray painted olive green.
The striped pillow I just bought on clearance, too from Pottery Barn. Yay, for sales!
Now let's add an outdoor rug from Overstock.com
I like the way the stripes in the rug repeat the stripes in the pillows.
Now if I need extra seating I can just pull this wicker chair out of the sunroom. I spray painted it red a couple of years ago.
If we need more seating I have plenty more chairs to grab and bring out.
Now we have a nice sitting area to enjoy.
Two lanterns that hold votive candles are hanging on the rail for added light at night.
Plus if we have a fire going that is added light.
Close up of the little lanterns that are hanging now.
Another spray painted item is the rooster. It was a brown metal.
This is what I can do to cover up the little grill. Bring out my shutters from the sunroom.
Then I added these colorful little votives that I found on sale for $1.25 at Michael's.
I can pull this chair over here for another little sitting area.
Love the new look from inside.
So much nicer.
I placed this planter here to hide the view of the grill since you can see all the way through to the deck when you enter our front door. Nobody wants to see the grill when they first come in.
Well, that is how I prettied up the deck. Looks so much nicer with the pops of color added. Now if
it will just cool off some so we can enjoy it. It is extremely hot and humid today.
Come on over and I will fix you a nice cold glass of sweet tea or lemonade.
Y'all come back now,
KIM

ReplyDeleteKim, I love your red chairs---both metal and wicker! The table is so cute, too. What clever ideas for hiding your grill! You're always so creative.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with bold color, something I'm learning to do slowly.
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE that green lantern!
ReplyDeleteThe color combination is so bright and happy. I would want to spend many a morning sipping my coffee here before the sun kicks in. Love the addition to texture too- truly an "outdoor room."
Looks wonderful Kim! I love the bright colors.
ReplyDeleteI need to steal that fern stand idea, for the lake. Will store that idea away, in my ispiration file.
Loving the color and the layers! So beautiful...and I really love the view from inside...in the air conditioning;) It is so hot and humid here today...I am melting...YUCK!
ReplyDeleteYour ferns are beautiful...I am really into ferns right now...inside and out. I love they feel they give a room!
Enjoy!
Cathy
I so love the red chairs...what is it about red? I love it around me in every room! Love the green lantern too! :D
ReplyDeleteSoooo cute! I love the red. Everything looks so put together.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, great ideas and beautiful deck! Question: with all the rain we have, do you keep the rug and pillows out all the time OR just when you are using the deck? Linda
ReplyDeleteLinda, I usually bring the cushions in even though they are for outdoors. I just want them to stay clean. The rug I just got and I am leaving it out. It is for outdoors. I had a bamboo rug from Pier One that was for outdoors and it mildewed so fast that I got rid of it. What a waste of money. Don't do bamboo. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI love how you mixed the colors. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteKim, your deck looks so pretty. Love the chairs painted red, and the screen with the pails is such a great idea. I'd better get to work on my back porch. laurie
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and so inviting!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great. I am liking how you added the red and a touch of green. cute idea to hid the grill! We hid ours in the garage :)
ReplyDeleteWendy

ReplyDeleteGreat job! I know what you mean about time flying by. :(
ReplyDeleteI want to replace my table and chairs in my courtyard, but it has gotten to hot be spend much time outside, so I am dragging my feet.
Hi Kim, The deck looks so pretty with all that color it really does look like an outside room.I just LOVE the planter you have inside with the ferns in it,I know you said you put it there to hide the grill but it totally belongs there LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteThe touches of RED really pop against the background colors! I love having a nice place to sit outside! I don't remember if I entered the contest...I should go through and see if my name is there! lol Enjoy your evening ...and your beautiful porch! ♥
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the color of those chairs and shutters!!! What a great idea to put those colorful votives on there, it really adds a nice touch. Keep up the good work!

ReplyDeleteKim, this looks wonderful and so inviting! You have been very busy! I really like the votives hanging on the screen! That is so cute and would look great in your sunroom even if you move it back. Also love your kimberly queen stand and the 3 potted plants stand. If you didn't know already those Kimberly Queens are so hardy and will last forever and are great for seperating into more. I have all of mine from last year that I overwintered. Love the new look of your porch, it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful, you did an amazing job creating an inviting space!
ReplyDeleteAll that red as seen from the indoors looking out really beckons a person to come out to the deck and sit for a while.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely.
Di
I love the pops of color that it added to the porch. I love the color red!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing though, is the FERN & the fern holder. LOVE! It is gorgeous!
You did a beautiful job transforming your deck from ho hum to Shazam!!!! Great colors and such a happy place.
ReplyDeleteI too am transforming my back screen-in porch and the deck area. Lots of work but fun too.
Love your blog. I too live in Georgia and I know what you mean when you say how how it is during the mid-day...too hot to sit out on the deck until late evening.
-Kathi
My heart went pitter patter when I saw your red shutters...Great porch!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and have been lurking here ever since you started writing it. Once of the things I love most is you're not afraid to use color. But I can lurk no longer, because curiosity has gotten the best of me and I'd love to know where you found the plant stand your ferns are in. Susie
ReplyDeleteSusie,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the comment and I do hope you will leave a comment here and there. I would love for you to sign up on the giveaway, too. It is for my readers which you certainly are.
I bought that plant stand several years ago at Amelia Island, Fla. at a shop called that has changed it's name to Tennille and Company. They have a shop in Buckhead, but they don't carry these any longer. Wish I could have told you a better answer.
Your deck looks wonderful! I love the colors that you used, they are so very cheerful!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the stripes and ferns.
ReplyDeleteOh Kim! I love all the red you have added! it looks like a fun and happy place to relax. And all your special touches are just wonderful. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I think I'm heading to Pottery Barn. I love the pillows! The fern is gorgeous. I can't ever keep ferns alive. Any secrets??
ReplyDeleteAgain, I just LOVE what you have done!!!! You are one busy person! I so look forward to your blog every day to see what project you have completed....LOVE you work.
ReplyDeleteDenise
Your deck looks great! I love all the red and color! The screen is a good idea. I have two Kimberley ferns by the front door and so far they're not doing to well - yours looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteManuela
I love your fancy deck!!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your little touches and the way you have dressed up the porch. I love the colors. I'd like to hear more about growing ferns. I thought they were too hard to grow inside.
ReplyDeleteMama Bear
What a beautiful haven!!
ReplyDeleteYour outdoor "room" looks beautiful Kim! I've been having Google problems for 2 days and haven't been able to access any blogs, including mine! Turns out it was one of the links to a party I added! Yikes! Good thing hubby is computer savvy.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Kim
its so cute with all the pretty colors and looks so nice from the inside too:)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Great job! I love the red chairs and the stripey cushions...it looks like a bright and cheery "room" to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour deck is the perfect size for me, Kim. I have a patio that goes the whole length of our house. It is not really tolerable to hang out on between 3-6 as that is when it gets hit directly with the sun. The gazebo comes in handy then! : ) Love your colorful chairs and your green lantern.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through Kat's blog (Low Tide High Style) - I'm loving all the colour you use. We are in the process of planning our deck for the backyard, so I was very glad to see yours for inspiration. We don't eat outside, but would like a deck for sitting and having a cup of tea or reading - basically like the area you have with the 2 red chairs, the red wicker chair and the firepit. I was wondering what the dimensions of that half of the deck area is? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI just became a follower so I can continue to enjoy your blog.
I love your bright cheerful colors. i also bought Pottery Barn pillows on sale last year, and was hoping to paint my shutters, but we have had so much rain, when it is nice I spend the time weeding...
ReplyDeleteI just love the colors you have used. Bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim
ReplyDeleteI love all the diffferent pieces you used on your deck and the color combination of red green and black. Everything looks wonderful and I'm so glad you joined the party!
Hugs, Rhondi
LOVE IT! Don't you also love those Kimberly ferns? Finally, a fern that can take some sun. You know how much I ADORE that sun room. But your deck is really a nice addition to that as well!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
What a beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteI love the pops of red and the shutters are so unique and fun!
Cindy
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteNow you just know that I love all of that! The red is so fantastic. I agree, our outdoor spaces should reflect what's going on inside. Yours is gorgeous!
Cheers, Andrea

ReplyDeleteI love your festive deck! All those pops of red are perfection, and the screen really sets it off well.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll come visit me at my house. I got to the party late because I was trying to change the sling on a sling chair that was fighting back. LOL!
Happy Porch Party...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Nice to meet you at Porch Party. I love the pop of color that red adds to your beautiful back deck. We have been hanging onto huge 8x8 shutters that we removed from our house and now I know what to do with them. I can hide my ugly air conditioners in my beautiful side garden. I showed my husband so he could get inspired. Thanks for the great idea.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love the red accents on your deck. It is a beautiful spot. It's too warm here in the summer to enjoy our outside spaces also. That's one reason the sunrooms are so nice. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteKim, Beautiful job, and you used my favorite color, red. Great ideal using the shutters the way you did. Your house just flows beautifully. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSandy

ReplyDeleteEsther, thanks so much and the color is tomato red by Krylon.
ReplyDeleteOooh, very pretty! I am working on an outdoor room on the lower deck, looking for inspiration. Now I want to rush out and get some tomato red paint to do my wicker chairs.
