I wasn't going to join Alphabet Thursday this week and felt bad about it. Then I was reading Bonnie's A post at Creative Decorating on a Budget where she showed some antlers hanging over her fireplace. I then remembered that I just changed the wall for the four thousandth time again in my sitting room. I took two plates down and put two more roe deer antlers in their place.
I think I like this look.
I have been purchasing these vintage antlers from an antique dealer on ebay. The prices are pretty good. The only bad part is the shipping fee from Austria which is $25. These antlers come from the black forest of Austria and this dealer has a large collection of them. Some of them date back to the thirties.
I try to buy the ones with pretty plaques and a large number of points.
I think I will keep this look for a couple of weeks at least a while.
I am joing Miss Jenny's class at Jenny Matlock for Alphabet Thursday for the letter A.
Miss Jenny, so sorry I am late. I am usually early so please don't be too rough on me.
Linking to Color Outside the Lines for vignette Fridays for my wall vignette.
I will be back tonight with the reveal of my latest paint project.
Y'all come back now,
KIM
I love antlers... and one have one set of "sheds"... I want more of course!!
ReplyDeleteLove the new look! The plates worked too, but these are so much better. I love the collection. I'd come over and think you were a world wide hunter!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thursday!
Lisa
I too love antlers. Mine are the "American" kind as my husband is a deer hunter. I don't want the full deer heads mounted, but I do like the look of antlers mixed in with decor.
ReplyDeleteYours are fun hanging on the wall. The look gives a nice upward feel to what looks like high ceilings in your home..am I right? I struggle with decorating with our high ceilings in my "new" home.
Love your look. :)
Donna

You know I'm all over these! Been collecting them for years. I have also bought from the same dealer on ebay. They have some lovely ones. I think you should keep this look. At least for the fall and winter....Looks good Kim!
ReplyDeleteI too love antlers! Just kinda moved them all out when the oldest moved out. But, just a hint of an idea, I decorated the oldest house for Christmas, since we were spending Christmas there in 2009. Used antlers on the mantle and hung stockings from them. Very tastefully done ~ I might add.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed looking.
Karen
I don't particularly care for antlers, but you always make them look really really good. I like them on the little plaques too. I kind of miss the plates, but I like this look as well. Ah, 4001 may bring another look I adore too, lol.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny Kim, I just came from Bonnies and I was thinking of you and your antlers when I saw hers. Your wall looks great, very well balanced, those antlers fit in perfectly.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love it...you've picked some great ones!

Kim I love this way you have it now, it's perfect....ok gotta ask about these antlers...we in the NW (or me) have no clue what kind of animals such tiny antlers are from? We have deer and Elk with huge antlers, never seen these little tykes in these here parts...my antlers in Montana are big and take up the whole coffee table!
ReplyDeleteps can't wait for the kitchen show and tell
Not so sure about the antlers. (Just saying...) But I do adore that couch!

Hey girl- You've gone antler crazy these days! LOL Seriously, they do look great on the wall. All I have is my faux pair. Guess I could look at Country Living Fair tomorrow in Columbus, huh? They'd probably be cheaper at a yard sale, though... *grin* I'll look anyway. Should be an interesting and fun day.
ReplyDeletehugs, Sue
Great take on the letter "a". Your house is lovely!
ReplyDeleteMy son would want to come and live at your house. He likes to shed hunt. He doesn't find many, but he likes to dream. He wanted to cut off the antlers of a road kill deer the other day! Joni
ReplyDeleteWell, you had to post this because A for Antler is perfect! I like your collection - you're hitting just the right note. We have a friend in Germany who is a hunter and he has a wonderful collection.
ReplyDeleteWow. I have never thought of using antlers as decor in my home. In fact, I've discouraged my husband from it. BUT it looks so fabulous in your home. You look like you have some great decorating ideas. I love it.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping in for Alphabe-Thursday.
What a great display. You have definitely hit the nail on the antler's head!! I love all your collections but this one may just be my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Do you happen to know what animal(s) these antlers are from? I would like to find something like that for my daughter for a Christmas present.
ReplyDeleteThey are from roe deer. All I know is that these are found in the Black Forest of Austria. I purchase them on ebay from an antique dealer in Austria.
ReplyDeleteLove the red sofa! Really cool...over from AlphabeThursday...have a good one!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Bonnie inspired you to share your antlers.
ReplyDeleteI like how they look in such a symmetrical pattern. It seems interesting to me that they come from Austria.
Thanks for linking to Alphabe-Thursday.
It's always fun to see what you're up to.
