The magazine holder that I bought at the flea market a couple of weeks ago finally got a makeover last week.
This is what it looked like when I brought it home. Not bad, but we all know I prefer color.
I sanded it and painted with two coats of Sherwin Williams paint that I had.
I sanded a lot back off to really try to give it a very worn look.
Now some of my home decor magazines and books are very happy.
The next thing I may do is stencil the word magazines on the side after I am back home from my daughter's.

Little miss Leila's bilirubin is elevated and she has to stay one more night in the hospital to be put under the lights. Mom and Dad have to go home without her and they are not happy. I told them at least they will get one last night of good sleep that they both need before she comes home.
I will keep you updated. I hope she comes home tomorrow. Say a little prayer, please.

Y'all come back now,

I think it looks great next to the chair. The color really pops next to that pattern.
ReplyDeletelike it, like it!! Maybe you should put "le books" on it!! Haha...
ReplyDeleteMuch better! I love that color too! Another great example of Savvy Southern Style!
ReplyDeleteYou are a painting machine! I have a few pieces you could do for me:)
ReplyDeleteVery cute Kim. Love the distressing.

I love it, that color looks really great.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Leila gets to come home soon, I couldn't imagine going home without my baby.
I love the change. It looks pretty and stylish!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandra
My daughters baby had to stay a night too plus have a light on her at home for a couple of days. I love the magazine holder..great color! Come say hi :D
ReplyDeleteVery nice! And we are saying prayers for your precious grandbaby! Hugs! ♥
ReplyDeleteLove the green distressed look. Will pray for the baby. ♥O
ReplyDeleteI love the makeover Kim!
ReplyDeleteI've just been catching up with you. I've beed running hither and yon this week.
Wish I could have been in Asheville. Looks like you all had a wonderful time. I've been to Screen Door. Love that place!
Love it and think your stenciling "magazines" to it will be the perfect touch! Prayers with your grandbaby ... and, you're right ... your daughter and son-in-law should enjoy this last night of full sleep (although, something tells me she won't sleep a whole lot, thinking about her peanut). Take care, *Becca*
ReplyDeleteKim, Love the color and the distressing on your new magazine holder. I am sorry Leila didn't get to go home. I'll say a little prayer for her and hope she will be home tomorrow.
ReplyDeletexo, Sherry
So sorry the little sweet one has to stay in the hospital a little longer. It happens to so many little ones. Prayers.
ReplyDeleteLove the new finish! It looks amazing next to your chair! Keeping Miss Leila in thoughts too! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the way it turned out! MY youngest had to stay in the hospital for the same thing. It is hard leaving little ones there. But you are right, one more night of sleeping...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
Perfecto, I love it that shade of green.
ReplyDeleteLovely magazine holder, Kim! I'm thinking good thoughts and saying a prayer that little Miss Leila will be able to go home tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteSaying a prayer for Leila. I am sure it will all be fine :) Your magazine rack looks great, as usual!
Aww.........sending prayers for your for Miss Leila and you daughter! I can just imagine the emotions she is going through right now.
ReplyDeleteKim you magazine holder looks fab!!! I'm going to have to practice the painting thing!
Take care!

So sorry Leila had to stay an extra day...I know that's hard for mom and dad (I remember). Your magazine rack looks so fresh and updated!
ReplyDeleteLove the magazine holder redo. I have one very similar that I'm planning on shabbifying also! My eldest daughter, now 6, also had to go under the bili lights, and as a new mom, I was so scared. It really turned out all to be ok (she was born without a thyroid gland and was quite jaundiced as a result). Tell your daughter not to worry, although as a new mom, I know she will; it's only natural!!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great, your magazines look much happier now:) I just found one in the new Crate and Barrel catalog that I'd like to have. I think I'll see if it goes on sale after the holidays!
ReplyDeleteI liked it better when they kept mom the extra day or two as well. I wouldn't have wanted to go home without my baby either...but, hopefully they will grab that extra sleep.
That looks so great. I'm sure Mom & Dad are anxious but you're right about the sleep...lol...
ReplyDeleteVery nice transformation Kim!! I have dealt with elevated bilirubin twice and had to bring the light thing home with me last baby. My girls called their brother "starbright baby" because of the glow. It is nice they will get that one night of sleep:-)
ReplyDeleteI like what you did that tired 'ol magazine rack. It may look worn, but in the right places now. Come by for a visit soon and say "hi".

You did a great jobn, Kim. Now it looks like it really belongs in your home. Thanks for the congratulatory note. If you have a chance. please come back and go one post down. I would really love for you to see my ancestral home. Thanks...Christine
ReplyDeleteIn my prayers but I just know it will be ok, both of my Grands had the same thing, I wonder why that is so common these days. Can't wait to see more pictures of little Leila.
ReplyDeleteKim, the magazine rack looks great. Like the color. I will keep the baby and family in prayer. Hopefully she can come home tomorrow. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteFantastic job Kim and I love the new colour!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about your baby she will be just fine. My little guy had to stay a whole week after delivery to be kepted under that light as well. Luckily I had to stay due to some minor health problem...but it all worked out so well! But I will still say a prayer for your beautiful baby!!
Pamela xoxo
Love the green on that magazine rack. I know you are ready for Miss Leila to go home also!
ReplyDeleteOooohhh! That is lovely! I love that shade of green and you have the distressing part down to a fine art! Prayers going out for Miss Leila!
ReplyDeleteLooks great.
ReplyDeleteI pray Leila's billirubin comes down so she can go home tomorrow. xx
Nice job on the magazine rack. I'm keeping Leila and her folks in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me what you do with a piece, sometimes the simplest thing, and it's transformed.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the billirubin issue is very common, I bet today you'll find everything is normal and baby will come home.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the magazine holder after you stencil it. It looks good now, but I think the stencil will kick it up a notch. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts!
ReplyDeleteSusan
Love the distressed look, also like the color. Prayer sent out for little Ms Leila and parents as well.
ReplyDeleteOh yes the baby tan, I remember it well. Both of my kids had to go under the lights. I hope the Leila comes home soon, must be hard on Brooke and Eric...Sending positive thougts:)
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kim! Love the green.

This past weekend I bought a magazine rack. I had seen several racks all summer at yardsales, but opted not to purchase any of them. Finally, I found one that is in great shape, sturdy, and a beautiful design, not to mention only $4! I plan to paint it and distress it similar to what you've done with yours. I love your blog! I just became a follower and look forward to all your new posts everyday. Congratulations on your new grandbaby girl. She's precious!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have one of those in my garage that would love a makeover!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Rita
I really enjoy reading through your old posts. You have really great taste. I love your house. The green on the walls is so nice with the white baseboards and the shades.
