I hope the start to your week is going well. I am a little under the weather with a head cold, but Nyquil worked wonders last night so I could sleep. It is very cold and windy here for the south, but that just helps it feel more like the holidays.
Last week I worked on a little craft project that popped in my head. I had just set out my plastic deer as it was and then it came to me to add some moss to it just to beef it up a bit. So a little trip to Hobby Lobby was in order.
Here is the nekkid deer. Now I know that is improper english, but is just sounds better. I have two of these and have had them for years.
Here are the supplies needed. Spray glue and some sheet moss.

All I did was spray the glue on the deer and starting putting pieces of moss on it and all over my hands till it was all covered. I thought I would leave the antlers plain to look more natural.
Doesn't it look better? Actually this is the other deer that faces the other way. I didn't take a before shot of this one so I remembered to take one of the other deer since they are alike.
This is where I have placed it as part of this vignette in the great room.
I filled this wooden bowl with fresh greenery, ornaments, battery operated candle, and a little bird nest with a teeny tiny cardinal in it. Eventually I am going to go to Home Depot and get some free Christmas tree scraps so it will smell like Christmas throughout the house.
Placed this Pottery Barn lantern, that I have had for years, here and tied a burlap and plaid bow to it.
Placed this candle from PB on top of some deer moss in the lantern. I know PB candles cost more, but I have had this for probably four years and it has burned down the center about half way and still has plenty of burn time left so I think it makes up for the cost.
Close up the nest and cardinal.
Candle glow at night
Just a simple vignette to add a little Christmas to this area.

Be sure and check out these parties for some great ideas.
Thanks so much for all the great comments on my hutch for Christmas.
Have a super week!

ReplyDeleteSuper genius Kim!!!! I love it and this should win an award, it is that good!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. When I made my moss wreath I was picking moss out of my hair for days. Had a little mishap with the spray adhesive. The whole vignette looks loevly.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever!! Looks so beautiful love the deer!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon Kim!
Better now than at Christmas.
Clever girl. It looks great!
ReplyDeleteLook wonderful Kim.
ReplyDeleteI have two deer like that, sort of opposites. I have them out, not sure what I will do with them yet. Mine are from Evergreen at Osage Beach a couple years ago.
He is just too cute!! Your vignette looks so pretty. I hope you get better soon. *Becca*
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I would not have thought of adding moss to a plastic deer, but it just looks fabulous. In fact, very expensive! Love the antlers left natural. Pretty vignettes, too. Linda
ReplyDeleteI love the moss covered deer, might have to give that a try myself.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Judy
Such a great idea. I love it. The moss made such a huge change in the look. Your vignette is stunning, I love the staircase too. Everything is so pretty. Thanks for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLove your deer Kim. I posted about this year. I made mine several years ago and have been using year after year. They hold up really well. Your cypress looks great too.

Genius idea Kim...he sure looks handsome!
ReplyDeleteThe deer looks so nice covered in Moss :-)
ReplyDeleteTadaa! The perfect display. The deer looks so much better all green!
ReplyDeleteI love deer in holiday decorations--they are a regular motif for me. Love yours, before AND after.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Susan
Everything looks so pretty on top of your chest of drawers. Love the idea with the deer.
ReplyDeleteYour decorations are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteA little tip about the candles. My DIL told me this. When you buy the expensive candles.....burn down just enough to put a tea light candle in the candle and burn that instead of the nice candle. I thought this was such a good idea. Happy Holidays.
That's lovely Kim. Will the moss need to be replaced next year? PB candles are a super value because they don't burn with a big flame. I have refilled and rewicked candles i really liked. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideal and it looks great. Your hutch also looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSandy
Awww, your deer is adorable!Your decorations are wonderful!

Kim, it's all beautiful! Love your room & vignette.
ReplyDeleteGirlfriend, I LOVE everything you do. That deer is gorgeous and I can't imagine what you would have paid at a specialty store. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYou ran out of things to paint, now you are going to put moss on everything! It really does look better...I don't know how you even thought to do it, but it was a great idea! I have a couple topiaries in my "redo" pile. I need to be working with a little moss myself, but I think they will be Valentine topiaries...not Christmas:)

Oh deer. I really love this idea! I've seen moss animals in high end shops, yet yours is so unbelieveably fab!!!! Love love love this idea! My daughter would truly love if I recreated this, she is such an animal lover, especially "Bambies". Remind me if I ever try this that it was YOU who inspired me!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking to the party!

Kate
this deer is so much better covered in moss. Of course anything would look great sitting on that chest. That is my favorite piece of furniture of yours. But the combination of things you've arranged on it looks so very pretty.
ReplyDeleteOh, Bambi! He got a whole new look. And an upscale one at that. Such an easy project with a huge impact. He is all ready for Christmas with his jaunty bow!
ReplyDeleteI love the vignette on your table. Beautifully put togeher and full of Christmas natural and organic elements. Just wonderful!

I am at work today and champing at the bit to get home and get busy decorating. Diana
WONDERFUL, Kim! I love your mossy deer and your whole tabletop looks beautiful. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI adore what you did with the deer. I never would have thought of it. The whole room looks so warm and inviting. Are you in any magazines with this? If not you should be.
Blessings~

Too cute a little reindeer, Kim! It beefed him up and gave him more presence for your pretty vignette.
ReplyDelete~ Sue
I love it!!! The deer turned out so cute in his new moss coat. Your entire vignette is fabulous. But you always do fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThanks you guys. Gwendolyn Kay, no, not in any magazines. You are too kind.
ReplyDeleteCool deer. I love the bowl, too.
ReplyDeleteStay healthy and stay warm. This cold weather is horrible.
What a great craft idea! I love this vignette on your table. I've used burlap in my Christmas displays this year too (well on my greenery) and I like how it looks. Looks like your edges are sewn and mine are not though. I've been suffering from a cold too. No fun! At least I got my flu shot though. I'm trying to get Jimmy to get one too. It's hitting GA extra hard this year. Keep warm! I can't believe how cold and windy it has been outside. All we're missing is the snow! Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY like how the mossy deer turned out. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Kim! I would never have thought to add moss. But it looks fantastic! I also really like that that piece of furniture behind the couch. Of course it probably will reside somewhere else soon, as most things move around in my house. But then that's how we find dust to clean!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Yes, you said, "simple"? but this is the most elegant vignettes I ever seen since I am roaming around BNOP & TTT...
