Wow, you guys amaze me. Most of you guessed the dining room. A few said the master bedroom and a few said the kitchen. I love my master and kitchen colors for now. Obviously y'all lied when you said you liked my yellow dining room. Just kidding. I did like the new yellow color when I first did it because it was much brighter than the way it was before. Let's take a look.
This was the original color that I painted it when we built the house in 1995.
We loved it this blue for quite a long time. Too long. Mr. Savvy didn't want me to paint this room, but he lets me make most all of the decorating decisions.
This was an improvement over the dark blue for sure.
So first I started prepping by filling all the nail holes. Look how bright this room is when the sun is coming in. My sister asked me why I wanted to change it and I told her I think it is a hormonal thing!
I just cannot stand this deep golden yellow any longer. My mom loves this color, but she doesn't live here and only sees it for a short time. I also did not like the way it didn't flow with the color of the sitting room across the foyer. When I stood in the dining room and looked over to the sitting room it was clashing badly.
I was going to do this job all by myself and not even involve Mr. Savvy. I wasn't even going to touch the wall below the chair rail. Well, there were a couple of small cracks in the room that needed caulking so he was doing that and then I look and he has scraped off a large area of this wall below the chair rail. We found that we had a leak behind this wall a few months ago when our wood floor was curling up. Mr. Savvy said we must have water coming in and he got outside and cut a hole in the cornice board and found a leak behind this wall and repaired it. So after the wall dried out good the top layer of wall board was just flaking off when he touched it. He repaired it with joint compound and now I have this to paint, too. Thanks hon! I think every paint job I do always ends up being more work than first planned.
So it is taking me longer to finish this job than planned. I am also repainting the trim to freshen it up. It hasn't been repainted in over 15 years and desperately needs it.
Now most of you guessed the right room now guess what color I went with. I think you will be very surprised. Let's see how smart you are again.
Looking forward to your guesses!
Now I must get back to work or it will never be finished.
KIM

i like the yellow, but like you said i don't have to live with it. what does the room across look like? i may be able to guess what color you are using if i have an idea of what color you are coordinating with. great room.
ReplyDeleteI think you are painting it a light neutral color, something between cream and gray. Just guessing you might be influenced by all these cream white and grey lovin' blogs like I was when I painted my dining room!
ReplyDeleteWell, I loved the yellow, however since the sitting room is more of a mustard color, I can see how it didn't go too well. I think since you have a red sofa in the sitting room that you are painting it red. I can't wait to see. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteMy first guess would be red, but since you said we will be surprised I wonder if you are going with a light creamy gray color? You have me guessing! Have fun, can't wait to see the finished room!
Wendy
i had a yellow like that in my last house's dining room, and it was fun and warm, but now our dining room is more neutral and relaxing! i am guessing you are going with a very light sage/gray-green. can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteI can't even pick out a color for my own rooms Kim so I think I'll just let this be a surprise. I love surprises anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing a soft green or creamy neutral. ;)
ReplyDeleteHey, there! Glad to be back among the bloggers after a holiday break. Can't wait to see what color the dining room will be (for now). Good thing you decided to paint; it is always good to find those leaky problems sooner than later!
Woo Hooness! I guessed the right room! We have a little condo and I painted the walls a golden color. We rent it and I don't know if the guy living in it likes the golden color or not! :) I'm going to guess red! :)
ReplyDeletecontinue to be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Kim, I always wanted a navy blue dining room in our old house with white trim. I also have a huge affection for pale yellow walls. I can't wait to see what you do. I will be peeling wallpaper til June for sure. ♥O
ReplyDeleteOk I was right there....are you doing it black?
ReplyDeleteI guessed correctly.:-) I am thinking about repainting our dining room, but I have plans for other rooms right now. The dining room might have to wait awhile.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to begin painting a room this week, too.....perhaps.
I'm terrible with paint, so I won't even venture a guess. Just the thought of painting all that frightens me! That's the color of my kitchen and bedroom, and has been for three years. But my paint just stays on longer because I have to hire it done. (My back can't handle that sort of task.) Looking forward to the color!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Yay! I guessed the right room! Now for the color, Hmm.. I am thinking either a red or green. Maybe red since it's not quite done yet, and would require several coats to get the right shade, but with the repairs, that could have delayed your painting so it could be green. As for the yellow, I am totally a yellow girl. I love the color of your dining room in the first photo but in the second photo it shows up much brighter. If that's the way it was all the time I can understand why you changed it. I used to have our old house done in the brighter color then perfected a perfect golden tone by having Sherwin Williams mix a custom color for me, it needed a black in the base mix to get it toned down to where I like it. I cannot wait to see what you changed it to though, this is fun!
ReplyDeleteI love using paint to change a room and, like you, have gone from blue to yellow to the sagey green I have now.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with a few others and guess red.
Can't wait to see what you chose.
Happy New Year!
Hmmm I guessed the wrong room, but I think the color is going to be something similar to the entry hall maybe a bit darker? Can't wait to see. Like I said I really need to rent you out in Calif.for awhile. I have several rooms and some trim that need painting. Have fun you design dynamo!!! Kathysue
ReplyDeleteYippee! I guessed correctly!! I'm thinking of a color to co-ordinate with that pretty hutch...(I highly doubt it will be a bright green or red)...maybe a lighter olive...or a lighter color than in your sitting room, but in the same family??
ReplyDeleteGah...I can hardly wait!!
I bet that you are going to pain it a soft white or taupe.
ReplyDeletehugs
Sissie
well since white is the rave i will say i very soft white or grey....i just did some wood work upstairs in a dark grey and i am loving it it will also be in my bathroom when we finally re-do.....yey!
ReplyDeleteI want to guess a green shade, but I am probably so wrong! Have fun painting. Glad it isn't me!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I also liked the yellow but I also understand the need for change. I think you are going with a warm neutral color..maybe a deep beige. You've had guesses everything from red to beige so I am looking forward to seeing the what you choose.
ReplyDeletexo,
Sherry
I don't know what color you're going with but what I do know is that you'll show us when it's done. So I'll be content to wait and be surprised. I repainted our dining room last year and updated/upgraded the lighting. We adore the change -- I'm sure you will too. Hope you'll stop by. Jane
ReplyDeleteHmmm - I'm thinking a very pale grey-green. Can't wait to see!
ReplyDeletei am thinking green, like the back of the hutch....
ReplyDeletexo
penny
or...another yellow...just a bit lighter.
ReplyDeletealmost our whole house was painted a yellow close to that, when we moved in. it wasn't too bad in the living room, it looked like a lovely buttercream shade, but everywhere else, i hated it. it all depends on the lighting in the rooms. i think it definitely looks better in your dining room than it looked in my house! hmmmmmmm... i'm going to guess a soft brown ...
ReplyDeleteKim, I am going to guess a khaki color...possibly "sisal". My reason for not guessing green is because of the green inside your hutch. If anyone can find a green that is compatible, though, it would be you. Can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteI am painting my dining room and kitchen... not sure what colors. Maybe I'll wait to see what you do first :) I loved reading everyone's guesses. I am not going to guess, but simply ask... when can I move in? I LOVE YOUR HOUSE!! It truly is my favorite in BLOGLAND!!
ReplyDeletePale butter? Or is it because I love that color so much. Or a shade of gray because it is so popular now?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see. My blog theme this year is decorating from square one a new to us house. Inspiration always enjoyed.
I always love to see what you are up to next. I am going to guess a neutral beige or green. I have my 2011 to do list & started organizing closets today. Though I should have been taking down the tree but that too is on the list. Can't wait to see your reveal.
ReplyDeleteI guess the BIGGEST surprise would be if you painted it yellow again...but a DIFFERENT, lighter yellow..hmmm...Can't wait to see~ Hugs-Diana
ReplyDeleteOk....I'm totally going out on a limb here but I think you are painting it black! Only because I think that would be so brave and daring and I think you can pull it off and have it look gorgeous with the other colors around it. Can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Half of me wants to say a neutral, and the other half wants to say a deep red.
ReplyDeleteHow about a blue-gray? That's my guess, but with your great taste I bet it will be wonderful. Sally
ReplyDeleteI am also thinking of green! But I did love the dark blue...and the yellow, too! Really I did! Hugs to you, my friend and Happy New Year! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteYou certainly know how to build the suspense! I really like the yellow. My own dining room is a shade similiar and it's such a warm, happy room. Whatever color you're going with, it's going to look terrific. Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Susan
Some of you are very warm and others are way way off. This is fun.
ReplyDeleteVicki, you are way too kind!!
I'm guessing a lovely green, or red or like a coffee-latte rich and lovely shade.
ReplyDeleteOh Kim! When I popped over I thought I was going to see the finished room...you are such a tease! I can't wait to see what you have chosen...hurry hurry;)!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Cathy
Kim~ you are always surprising me, so I don't have a clue...but I can't wait to see! ( A green, maybe?)
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought chocolate brown. But now I am starting to doubt myself and an wondering about a soft gray. No matter what color you chose it is going to look great! Don't keep us guessing too long!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow, but I am always up for a change. I have two guesses, either some sort of green or a mocha color.
Can't wait to find out!
I agree with NanaDiana, I think a lighter yellow. But maybe that's just me being hopeful since I LOVED that yellow. My dining room is a similar yellow BTW. But we only use the room a few times a year.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love the golden color! But sometimes we just need a change, right? I will guess that you are going back to blue in a lighter shade... Good luck with it no matter what you decide!
ReplyDeleteI'll guess a silvery grey, it seems to be all the rage.
ReplyDeleteJust wish I had 1/2 your energy, I wish for 2011 that you run out of projects and need to come spend some time with your twinny....ok I go with either a shade of white/cream or completely the opposite and say black...however if Mr Savvy is anything like the Hubs and I bet he is, he would baulk big time at black and that would take some talkin into.......
ReplyDeleteActually, I ADORE the original dark blue with the wainscot or bead board. So, will wait to hear what color you end up with.
ReplyDeleteI guessed right! Not because it looked bad...but because your other walls are more neutral. My walls are ivory lily - just barely yellow...barely. I love to live in them...but I hate that they photograph really yellow!!!! So I'm thinking of changing them to something more neutral as boring as that might be.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you'll paint the dining room greige.
Hmm, my guess will be green. I can't wait to see! You are one busy girl. You jump right out of Christmas and into painting...way to go! ~Liz =)
ReplyDeleteThe power of paint! My guess is that you will be painting your dining room chocolate brown.
ReplyDeleteI would be honored if you would link to my blog party

yeah - I guess right - I liked the yellow, but of your options it seemed to be the most likely candidate for a change :) Ok, my guess for color is a light color color - not yellow, but the gold color that is in your chair fabric and curtains... we will see :)
ReplyDeletea sandy taupe color
ReplyDeleteBM's Greenfield Pumpkin?
ReplyDeleteI first thought green since you love different colors, but now I am thinking maybe a lighter shade of the hall color. Can't wait to see! Can I have some of your energy????
ReplyDeleteI am going with IVORY or CREME.:)
ReplyDeleteAnd, I KNOW FOR CERTAIN SURE...it will be beautiful, whatever color you decide.:)
I guessed the right room too.. I'll be honest and admit I dont like yellow or golden tone rooms.. dont hit me lol..
ReplyDeleteIf theres such a thing as a grey based creme tone then that the color I'm guessing it will be, on top and maybe the green you have in the kitchen below the chair rail..
cant wait to see it..
I guessed it right, and my next guess is red? :)
ReplyDeleteKim~ I am going to guess sage green. Why? I don't know. Can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteMarianne
My dining room is red so that's my guess. Red.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love the current dining room color, but I, like you, like flow between rooms especially when they are so close together. If I had to guess what color you're painting, given the other colors in your home, I would have to go with a nice deep red....not orangey red, not pinky red, but a nice brick red. It would go well with the nice green in your hutch and you can always use the bright yellow as accents! Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished room!!!!! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the color you chose.
ReplyDeleteI am going to go with the lighter neutral colors. Seems to be so popular right now with all the blogs I have been seeing. Either way you choose it will be gorgeous!! Your house is so beautiful! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI too got it right. 2011 is turning out great!
ReplyDeleteOkay now the the paint color, perhaps a little oatmeal color? Maybe darker?
Can't wait to see what your mind has planned!
Happy painting!
Lisa
Hi Kim! Why is it that nothing is ever as easy as you hope it will be? Good that you have it all repaired! As for the color...maybe back to blue...but a more provencal shade...to go with your drapery panels? Thanks for reminding me about the link...it's up now. I lost several in the shuffle with the holiday parties, etc! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, Thanks so much for reminding me that i did buy my behr paint at home depot.I must be getting old!!Not must i am!!Well, i know your dining room is going to be beautiful.I think your painting it a neutral or brown.
ReplyDeleteKathy
You have an eye for color, so anything you choose will look great! Cannot wait to see it!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, it's hard to guess with you, Kim. It seems like you like all sorts of colors, maybe back to blue? LOL! Whtever it is, I can't wait to see it.....Christine
ReplyDeleteI need ya to come over and see the post I put up this morning..and vote in my poll...:)))
ReplyDeleteI did guess the correct room! As for the color, I am going to say a pale sagey green......
ReplyDeleteHmmm, is it a neutral? Whatever it is, I'm sure it will look great.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting ready to paint our dining room too, maybe dark gray.
-Rene
Kim, Can't wait to see the finished project. Hugs, Ginger
ReplyDeleteI knew that it would be the dining room. I was thinking the yellow didn't look like the rest of the house and figured that this was what you were changing:) Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I know exactly what you mean about yellow. It's a tricky color. When we built our house, I picked what was a soft yellow on the paint chip. When we visited the house around 10pm I loved it. I was shocked when we came the next day about 10am. My pale yellow looked highlighter neon yellow in the daytime. Builder made me come to look at it a few days until I couldn't stand it anymore. Thankfully diluting it down with a 50-50 yellow/white ratio made it the yellow I wanted.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure whatever you are doing will look good, but I couldn't guess on a color.
Hi Kim...
ReplyDeleteOooh...can't wait to see what color you have chosen! Hurry...hurry and tell us! Hehe!
Love ya, my friend...
Chari @Happy To Design
I vote a neutral or red so it will flow with the rest of your house and match the green in your hutch. Can't wait to see it all done!
