Are you ready to see my very very first Mod Podge transformation? I don't know why this idea
popped in my head, but it did and I am glad it did.
First I made a paper pattern by tracing on some left over brown package paper that I used
for wrapping Christmas presents. Then I pinned it to the fabric and cut it out.
I put a layer of Mod Podge on the door and then placed the fabric on it and Mod Podged over
the fabric. I was going to use spray glue and then I remembered Mod Podge.
Then you just wait for it to dry. Then I applied two more coats.
I sanded the surface the next day and applied some Valspar mocha glaze around the edges and
took back off a little. Then I just let it dry.
I used two different images on the doors.
Do you love it? I do.
Just wish I had thought of it sooner.
Project cost: Less than $5 for Mod Podge because I already had the fabric.
Satisfaction: Priceless
Thanks for letting me share another change to this chest.

I just cannot decide if I want to paint it swedish grey or french blue.

ReplyDeleteOMGosh amazing..thanks for shaaring....Pat Howe
ReplyDeleteYou certainly struck a cord with this buffet...80 comments so far! Wow! I think this is genius and beautiful. Another way to do this would be to use liquid starch. It makes it stick but when you want to remove it, it comes off easily. Love your idea.
ReplyDeleteHave Mercy, Kim! It looks beautiful. I love that fabric - I had it in our previous home as window treatments and, of course, it stayed with the house:( It is a classic~

ReplyDeleteHi Kim
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if I told you how much I love this! Perfect!
I am getting started on a Kim inspired mirror project this afternoon. One step at a time. I am getting the base on, then I have to make a run to Lowe's tomorrow for the glaze. I have lots of paint samples.
Happy Weekend!
This is awesome. Love it.

OMG! I'm joining the chorus here and saying I LOVE it!! Adding modge podge to my "must have" list. Can I ask where you found your toile? That toile really makes the piece. Great job! Really inspiring! vanna
ReplyDeleteThat has to be the best remake I've seen. What a GREAT idea. Watch the furniture makers copy you now. Oh, and your email, no doubt loaded with requests from BHG (and others) for permission to publish. You've likely started the latest craze! I just love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I don't have to tell you that it looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWell there are no words left to use in this comment Kim, they've all been used by the 140 people ahead of me. I'm just sitting here with my mouth open looking at the results of this little project and how little it cost. Thanks for sharing!.
ReplyDeleteKim this absolutely stunnng!! I need to find a piece of furniture to do this. I want to do a chest with some toile fabric that I have but never knew how to do it. Wonderful. You are just so creative!!

ReplyDeleteKim ~ (just a minute while I pick my jaw up off the floor...) I don't think there are any adjectives left to describe the beauty of this project!!!! WOW!!!! I LOVE IT!! Do you have any tips I could use to Mod Podge a map onto a painter's framed canvas? It's a project that I have on the back burner and would love to hear your thoughts! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
WOWZA! I love it Kim! That's the same fabric as my living room drapery and my loveseat slipcover.
ReplyDeleteI once did my bathroom cabinet in a very similar manner. I loved it and the person who bought the house thought it was the strangest thing she had ever seen! :)
Boy 145 comments...you struck something there :) Looks great Kim! How often do these ideas just pop into your head :)
ReplyDeleteKim, you are killing me! This idea is brilliant. The insert is lovely, like it was made to be there. First this, now your french bench. You really are killing me...but in a good way.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!! That is just as pretty as it can be! I never imagined that it could be that easy. I'm looking around my place to see what I can modge-podge. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this, Kim! It's absolutely gorgeous. What a great transformation! Did you have any problems with the fabric shrinking at all?
ReplyDeleteI would love for you to link this to my linky party, as well: http://thebrambleberrycottage.blogspot.com/2011/01/time-travel-thursday-29-movin-in-new.html

Kim, I didn't see the post the first go around, but surely enjoyed it this morning. I would like to mod Podge a glass top table. Have you tried that?
ReplyDeleteHi Kim
ReplyDeleteDo you think this could be done with wallpaper instead of fabric or would the wallpaper just peal & fall apart. I have some fabulous wallpaper scraps that would look great but I guess I could just trace pictures onto plain fabric
I love, love, love this! And I just bought a piece of fabric that will be perfect to try this with and I have a chest of drawers that needs help in a bad way. This is great.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteYou’re so clever! I love the fabric you used. Your chest looks fantastic!
Dee
I'm so in love with what you did here!
