It has been almost a year since I first shared photos of what some of the rooms in our house
looked like when we first moved in in 1995. We built this house and I picked everything out
and my oh my thank goodness it has all changed.
The only photos I have of the before are regular pictures that I took pictures of to show you.
Most of you have not seen these since all of you weren't reading my blog the first time I shared
these. I am showing these again because there is a party at Jennifer Rizzo's called Evolution of Style.
Mine has certainly evoluted!! Is that a word? It is now.
This was the way the great room looked. Berry colored walls and blue furniture.
Here is a shot from the catwalk. We had wall to wall carpet then except for the foyer and kitchen.
Still have the same coffee table, but it is painted now.
New colors, and hardwood floors. Much better.
After the blue furniture we had a camel colored leather set and then this new brick red chenille.
Did you see the pathetic accessories in the first photo? So glad I have some better ones now.
This was the wallpaper in the kitchen. See how the colors tied together.
Sorry this is so blurred, but you get the idea.
Jewel tones were all the rage in the nineties.
The old kitchen had white cabinets, white counters, and even white linoleum flooring.
Thank goodness for change.
This just gets better and better so hold on. This was the master bedroom. The walls were
actually green, but look teal in these old shots. I did love this green and white room for many
years. The bedding and windows changed but the walls stayed green until a few years ago.
The wall color now is davenport tan by Benjamin Moore. I have a newer picture of the master
somewhere and can't locate it. I need to work on my photo files.
My son's room which became a guest room went from this
Never thought I would like gray walls, but I love this color in here. Revere Pewter by Benjamin
Moore.
Then to this for the holidays. Love the bargain flannel sheets.
The old dining room with its dark blue walls
went to this
and then finally to this. Much better.
I decided to paint the back of the dining room hutch last year to this bold green.
went to this
and then finally to this. Much better.

The other guest room was like this
then it went to this and of course I am in the process of changing it again and
the reveal will come soon (fingers crossed).
So much fun watching how our style changes through the years or sometimes months.

Wow that takes a lot of energy! The changes are fantastic, love the gray walls in your son's room. The bird bedding in the last shot -- I love that, don't change it :)
ReplyDeleteKim, isn't it funny to look back at choices you made long ago? Your original rooms were all lovely but what a big difference wall color and fabrics make to change and freshen up a space! I had so much burgundy/forest green/navy blue in our first house- they were the Ralph Lauren colors that were hot then! So fun to see your transformation.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't time lapse photography be fun? My house would probably look like it was a flower in blooming flower in over drive with all the changes. It keeps us out of trouble doesn't it Kim?
ReplyDelete-Rene
Kim, The transformation of your home is just so beautiful. I had the same blue check furniture in the 90's and now have the red in my family room. Do you ever wonder whats ahead of us in decor style??? Your talent for displaying your collections is to be so admired. Keep blogging as it certainley gives my day a bright side.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your evolution! In the mid 90s I had a bold navy blue dining room and wine colored walls and loved them then...not so much now! Now, I am working on redoing someone else's mid90s dreams...lol
ReplyDeleteKim, Looking at all the pictures I remember being on RMS and having so much fun... And then it started to get caddy.... This is so much better . Your home has always been just beautiful. And I have aways loved your style. have a wonderful day. I would have loved to join Jennifer at her party but my printer is not working, NO computer in 1995...
ReplyDeletePattie
Your house is gorgeous! I think we have the same red sofa. And for what it's worth, you were just in style then as you are now. You have great taste.
ReplyDeleteYou know it is kinda like looking back on hair styles and clothing..it worked then...so we thought LOL!~ I have said it before and I will say it again..you come a long way baby! Have a great day Kim...
ReplyDeleteHI Kim-
ReplyDeleteYou have so many before pics which really makes seeing how dramatic the changes have been. I only had one from 1994 and none of what my room looked like in between. I had many friends who had the berry and blue theme going like you. It is fun to see how things have slowly progressed and transformed. Your home has stayed beautiful through all of it's evolving.
My best- Diane
Kim...I had that same blue checked sofa in my 1994 house...lol..and a matching love seat of course. You have made some amazing transformations...love ALL that you have done. And, although some of the befores were really quite beautiful, I think you have evolved into your true sense of self in your style. Lovely! Diana
ReplyDeleteFun to see all the changes. I still swoon when I see your new Dining room-gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteKim its always inspirational to see the changes someone made... it give you ideas, energy and a buck up note:).... Your all changes are lovely and give a spark TO DO SOME ... very lovely...

Kim, your style has always been lovely, however I love the new look you have now. It is funny how our styles change so drastically over time. Mine certainly has. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteYour house is amazing and has evolved beautifully over the years! Where'd you get your red couch, I LOOOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved watching the evolution over the years, and I got some ideas from both the new AND the old, LOL. Oh, and I learned the term Catwalk - thats awesome, that I can now stop calling my area in the house the "long landing" Dont laugh at how stupid I am, hehe! Great post, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, It's fun to see how we transform our homes!! Yours is beautiful.I bought my stencil on line at Maison De Stencils. You can google, and it will come up. Thanks for reminding me. I put the name in my comments for anyone who is interested. It was on sale.
ReplyDeleteKathy
Ha, ha... I laughed out loud when I read your "just hold on, it only gets better." Actually, your home has always been decorated very nicely for the times. It is so interesting to see the shifts in style. You have a beautiful home. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh, how our tastes change over the years. I have certainly evolved.
ReplyDeleteLove all the changes you've made and the way you decorate!
Kim,
ReplyDeleteI just love looking at the before and afters of your home. What a transformation! I love your decorating style. Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed seeing how your home has evolved over the years, I wish I was as brave as you!
I'm stuck in a rut and that's the truth.
I love your master bedroom and the pillows on the red chenille couch are what I've been searching for. Care to share your sources?
merci
Maggie.
Your changes are beautiful Kim! There are so many things I like. I really love your new sofa with all the great pillows! I need a new sofa too, but was thinking of slipcovering for now. Your style is so clean and liveable with your special decorator touch! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow, great transformations! Thanks for sharing...it gives me HOPE.
ReplyDeleteevolution, revolution!!!

Kim I love your home.. sounds like the old version was a lot like mine when we moved in. You have an excellent eye in decorating. Beautiful
ReplyDeleteKim, you have a gogeous home, an eye for style and warmth. Loved going thru the pictues. I am hostig a Giveaway on my blog. Would love for you to stop by!
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some incredible transformations! Your home looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy furniture, in mid-90's, was in the same check in hunter green. Two camelback love seats and beige wall to wall carpet. That was at the farm. When I opened this post I thought, that really looks familiar.:-)
ReplyDeleteOh, Kimmie! Your home has always been beautiful but the changes you've made have just brought your home to gorgeousness! :) Everything is completely stunning.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Your style has definitely changed! You know in 15 years from now your gonna look back on what you did now and say what? :) Love it
ReplyDeleteI love how your rooms have transformed~! What a great evolution. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!
ReplyDeleteYour decorating style has evolved to great beauty! I remember back in the 90's, I was really into "country" style decorating. I look back at photos, and wonder what was I thinking!?
ReplyDeleteI love the swimsuit wall art. Did you purchase that or did you make it yourself? It is very unusual.
Just gorgeous! Is it silly that my favorite things are all the monogrammed pillows - I absolutely love them!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this post. I am a newer follower and it was great to see the before's and after - such inspiration - and what a journey!
ReplyDeleteYou've come such a long way, Kim! Yes, those nineties certainly had some rather different colors that were popular.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Kim, your style keeps getting better and better!
ReplyDeleteI know the 90's are gone and I like the styles now but I do miss the jewel tones! I am as close as I can get to them without being too out of style! Your house was very country back then (just like mine)!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we realize that home decor styles & colors change almost as often as clothing styles do. Thank goodness you can make classic purchases in both that only require some modest changes. Love how yours has evolved.
ReplyDeleteCAS
You've made such wonderful changes...and I know you'll keep making them! That's what I love about you! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteYour home looked great in each incarnation, but I love how it looks now!
ReplyDeleteLove all your changes, especially the guest room for the holidays. Where did you get that lovely cloche and stand and that cute pillow with the black dog in the boat?
ReplyDeleteKim you've always been stylish, but like everything styles change, the best part about you is that you don't let yourself get stuck in a design rut. You change with the times and update your home beautifully without being trendy! I love that about you and I love the way your house is constantly evolving. And look at how your photography has evolved too!!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
your home is so lovely! the nautical room is me fav :) but i love all of them! we have carpet in our family room right now... and changing over to hardwood floors is HIGH on my to-do list. your floors look great!

ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI need to post some my house pictures because I think we have similar tastes! I know the duvet in the master bedroom is the same as mine!!! I also have a red couch!! LOL. Everything looks so great. It inspires me.
It is incredible to see all that together! What a difference!
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun to look back at how our taste evolves.
ReplyDeleteThat is so amazing!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great!!
Are those bird sheets from Pottery Barn?
Love them!!!
well your taste was never horrible... but WOW what a transformation. 23 years ago in our first house, we had mauve and grey rugs, white countertops, a PINK TILE MASTER BATH, black lacquer bed set, glass top kitchen table with chrome legs.... enough said.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That really is an amazing style evolution Kim! You can see that the common thread is that you always have had a good eye for design and a love of color. Good taste never goes out of style! :-)
ReplyDeleteVanesssa
Kim, it's fun to look back. Amazing what a change in color does for a room. You have a gorgeous home. Fun to see the pics! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteWell the "before" pictures may look a little out of date but I would challenge anyone to say that you didn't have your thumb on the right buttons for the time that you made your decorating decisions. You have a great eye Kim.
ReplyDeleteOh Kim I love your before and after of your gorgeous home! You sure have been one busy lady over the years.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your evening,
Gail
Wow! I love your colors now. Beautiful. I love how it completely changes the room.
ReplyDeleteThis really is inspiring, Kim! I just painted a test swatch of light, creamy paint over the dark cranberry in my dining room. I almost freaked out, so thanks for posting this! Now I know I'm on track. Can't wait to show it on a future BTB.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful transformations! But you know when you originally decorated, you were in perfect style then too!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
I love how things have evolved. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love how your style has changed. Especially from the dark to lighter tones. What is the shade of green in the guest room?
ReplyDeletewww.chandrassouthernlife.blogspot.com
It's amazing how our style evolves over time. I wish I had some old pics of some of my former looks...well maybe not LOL.
ReplyDeleteI just love that word Evoluted!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing when we look back how much are tastes change. I'm always horrified looking at old photos of past homes we had. I always say to myself "What was I thinking?!"
But looking back these interiors were beautiful for the times. I remember so well the colours of the nineties! Do you remember the Santa Fe rage? All those peach and greens..yuk!
I have to go back over this post and look again at the afters. Great transformations Kim!!
Pamela :)
Your home is totally gorgeous, Kim! I love before and after photos. I think you have great taste, it's just evolved over the years. I had blue carpet in my house...in the 90's. Blue and carpet should never be in the same sentence. Styles change but you have a great eye for design! Every room in your house looks cozy and inviting. Love the bedrooms! xo
ReplyDeleteGREAT updates! I love your china cabinet. :-) Stop by if you get a chance.
ReplyDeletebeautiful I love how you have decorated
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation throughout your home! It is truly lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation Kim! I love all of your paint colors now and the hardwoods are fabulous. :)
ReplyDeleteKim, It's fun to see how your home has transformed. I was decorating with the jewel tones too! I wonder if we both will be blogging in ten years and talking the style we have today. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSherry
I love the larger scale wall decor in the context of your home. I have high ceilings too, it seems that unless the decor is ginormous it looks like a mistake.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, Can you believe how much our taste and style change and evolve over time?! I think that the changes in your breakfast room and dining room are my favs - wow! Linda
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, beautifullllllll! Your home is just stunning! Congrats on being featured over at A Delightsome Life.
ReplyDeletexoxo tami
I love how you have kept pictures of how your home has changed through the years! I remember I had hunter green walls in the first house we ever built - I thought they were so pretty - and I had a magnolia swag over over the window to boot! Thanks for opening your beautiful home - it provides much inspiration!
ReplyDeleteKim, your sense of style has really blossomed into magic! I loved seeing its evolution! Amazing!! You go, girl!! BHG for sure!
ReplyDeleteI love the way your style has evoluted! It was a fun glimpse back to see how your home has changed, I did love the jewel tone decorating though! Your home is truly gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteChange is good and because you're willing to make them, your house will always look current and stylish.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Susan
I love your home. You have such a beautiful style!
ReplyDeleteKim your home is amzng (all of it) I love the cabinets in black and the white on top with glass front.. Never thought that would look so good. THANKS for the Inspiration.
ReplyDeleteKarryann
Kim, I cannot begin to tell you how much I love your home. You made some awesome changes and updated your home in such a gorgeous way!
ReplyDeleteKim I was wondering if the beautiful chest in your foyer that you repainted and then put that wonderful fabric on the doors, was that a piece of furniture you bought new or second hand. I have been looking for a smaller chest to paint and put in my living room but really wanted to find it in a second hand shop or something like that.
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful. You put a lot of time and energy into it and it shows. I can't believe you made all those changes in just 15 years. It is really interesting how popular strong colours were in the 80s and 90s. I think some of that is coming back.
