Here it is. My new wonderful green demijohn. No, it doesn't sit here on the bench. I was looking for a good spot to get some decent photos. This also shows how big it is. These are 20 inch pillows by it.
Usually when I find these bottles they are at least $95 to $125 for one this size.
I wasn't even going to look at the price tag on this one because I don't want to pay a lot for one.
The price on this one, to my surprise, was only $37! I looked it over to make sure it was really old and it is. Sold!
I decided to put my demijohns and vintage grain sack in this old laundry basket from the same antique mall.
Now, I want to show you my new favorite framed art piece from the same antique mall.
I saw this painting and just stood there and looked at it. Something about it really attracted me. They say when you find a piece that really speaks to you then grab it.
I believe it is an old paint by number piece. I love the solid wood frame, too. This piece is signed with a name and 1955. That is the year I was born. Guess it was meant to come home with me.
Post edit: Cathy from Our Country Bungalow blog told me that the original painting is called "The Angelus" by Jean Francois Millet. The title of the piece is "Stopping for Prayer at Noon"
I had no idea that this was a copy of a famous piece.
I believe I am just drawn to this couple praying over their garden.
This is where I hung it along with my rooster print from, you guessed it, the same antique mall. Hard to not get glare on the glass front. I may look into getting a non glare piece of glass.
Thanks so much for taking a look.
Is it really Thursday again? Then have a wonderful weekend!
KIM

Hi Kim, oh I just love that painting!I've seen one in a gallery in Georgia. Too costly for me, 10,000, so I've been looking for a likeness since. Doesn't it say a lot? This one found a good home, and so did your other finds. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteLove your new finds Kim. The green demi-john is huge but what a great price:o) Your paintings are sweet - I love the rooster. My laundry basket is almost identical to yours...but I still use mine for the laundry!

I can't believe the size of that demijohn!!! Wow! I remember seeing that painting in art class and always liked it. It is funny how those old paint-by-number pieces are finding favor now. I did a ton of them when I was a teen.

Yes, the painting was meant for you. I like where you have it hung in your kitchen. What a great find!
ReplyDeleteYou really got lucky with the demijohn! It looks great with the others. Isn't it interesting that a paint by number someone probably did just for fun, is now a treasure in your home so many years later? I just love it when something I find "speaks to me". I'm excited that it found you:)
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome picture! I agree, if it strikes you- you should go with it! Your big green demi-john is great...I never heard the term demi-john before I read it on your blog. I take it it's the shape of the bottle, large on the bottom with a tall narrow neck? It looks great grouped with the others in the laundry basket!
ReplyDeleteYes, that bottle looks like it should belong to you! Have you seen the ones that have been cut on the bottom and turned to cloches? Very cool! I have always loved that painting and have a framed tapestry of it. I love the look of the old paint by numbers too. It looks wonderful with your things!
ReplyDeleteI love this print and have seen it before!!
