I want to share something different today. After changing the colors in my bedroom to mostly brown, cream, white, and pale blue the red hutch sitting in the little hallway outside our bedroom just was not working for me. Yes, it was fine there with all the red in the two rooms on either side of that hall, but from my bedroom it clashed badly. So changes had to be made. Out came the chalk paint and waxes.
This is an old picture of the
This is how it looks now. This chest fits better in this hallway and doesn't take up so much room like the hutch did. If this picture looks wompy it is because I had to take it from my bedroom door and the door frame is cutting it off on the right side.
Like my new big bird picture? I got it at a local store that was having a moving sale and I scored this for $35. First I put it in the powder room, but moved it to here when I started moving pieces of furniture around. You know how one thing moves and it starts the domino effect. Always happening here.
Now for some shots of the paint job I did to this piece. I used Annie Sloan chalk paints of course. This stuff goes forever and I can't seem to use it up.
This bird is so ugly that he's cute.
I love how this little hallway looks now with just a few simple changes and the only new piece is the bird picture.
I used Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint all over and then I mixed two tablespoons each of Old White and Old Violet for the insets. Then it was glazed all over with clear and dark waxes, sanded and buffed.
Thanks so much to all of you who have voted for my granddaughter, Leila. We would appreciate every vote we can get daily through July. You can vote by clicking on the pic at the top of my side bar.

ReplyDeleteIt looks very nice in your hallway! You did a great job painting it! How many pieces have you done with the Anne Sloan's and do you do anything that will make it last longer?
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI posted about my manic paint brush and I see that you are doing the same. I really like the cabinet. I have one with rabbits painted on it and it's getting ready to be renewed!
Love the way you decorated it too. The bird pic is perfect.
hugs
Sissie
Six birds out, one bird in! Sounds like a good trade :)
ReplyDeleteThe chest looks wonderful and it is such a perfect size to get moved around as your needs change. The new colors are very pretty.
It looks like a completely different piece! I loved it before and I really love it now. Great job!

There you go again, Kimmie, making pretty! You just amaze me and this piece is beautiful! Your bird picture reminds of Chloe Dawn - needs to go to the beauty shop.

The French Hutch
Well, I'm glad our birdies are off enjoying their new found freedom, Kim! This piece looks fantastic ... love how you mixed the two to come up with your own color. The print is perfect perched above your fab vignette. And, okay, so now what'd you do in your bathroom since you robbed it of this piece?! Have a great weekend and safe travels. xo

LazyonLoblolly
bye bye birdie ... you gol' darn nailed it swetie ...
ReplyDeleteKim...this has to be one of my fav vignettes you have done....I love the way you painted the piece, you are getting incredibly good at this! You styled it to perfection!
ReplyDeleteDeb @projectpassiton.net Thanks for sharing great pictures! Voted for Leila and added her to my FB page.
ReplyDeleteToo Cute!
Hope she wins that scholarship money. Maybe if everyone added her to their FB page it would increase the votes. :)
I cannot paint birds or trees or anything that remotely looks like the item that is being painted, so I couldn't have painted over the birds on the console, especially if I had painted them and they looked as good as yours! But I do love the new look of the piece, too!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are adventurous and not scared to try new things!
That inspires me!
HUGS and blessings--off to vote for Leila again :)

It looks great Kim. I love the colors and I really love the lamp you have on the chest!
ReplyDeleteWow, that chest looks great! I love how rustic you get it without sanding off too much of the paint. Is old violet more blue than violet would you say, in the pics it looks like a wedgewood blue.
ReplyDeleteLove the blue paint on this chest! I think the bird is majestic!
ReplyDeleteI love this vignette. I love the before and I love the after too. Hoping your weekend is a happy one. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI liked the birds but this is really pretty, too. Like you, I grow tired of some things and love a change.
ReplyDeleteYou did good!!
Kim, it looks as if you're going Coastal! Love it :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Nashville, never been! ... take pics and share!

ReplyDeleteCool, summery look!!
the bird print is so special - a great focal point! You did a wonderful job on the chest - I adore the blue and white combination.
ReplyDeleteI love the new color!!!!! I so want to begin using chalk paint, but am afraid!! I wish there were someone local who could teach me. Anyway, you are a true artist in every way.

Haven
