Isn't it pretty in its wonderful blue flowers. I have a thing for navy and white so this just kind of leaped off the shelf at me. If you look closely you can see the crazing. That just makes it even better.
It has the prettiest details on the handles.
Anyone know this name? Imperial Cliff England. I googled it, but did not find anything. You dish connoisseurs should know something.
Brownish coloration and crazing inside.
Gave twenty five dollars instead of fifty. Hope that was a good deal. Even if it wasn't I love the colors and pattern. Now I just need a larger hutch to display all these pieces I keep finding.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!
I'm not normally into the blue and white stuff, but that is GORGEOUS! I think you got a great deal. I'd definitely pay $50 for that. :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the dainty flowers,it is beautiful! I think you got a good deal, vintage dishes can get expensive.

ReplyDeleteOk. I must say...this is a beautiful piece. I think what you paid is just about right. Crazing is good, cracked - no. Very, very nice.

Hello Kim
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find: o)
I've searched my reference books and checked Google (UK) but cannot find anything about the backstamp 'CLIFF' however, the registration number which looks to me like 153625 (?) This means the design/pattern was registered in 1884 - the same would apply if it reads 163625. Please note though that this is ONLY the design/pattern registration and does not mean it was manufactured in that year. One or two manufacturers had already added the word ENGLAND, though it was not a requirement until 1891 when the Mckinlay Tariff Act about imports to the USA came into force. (The word ENGLAND was used from then up to 1909 when the words 'Made in' were added.) From this information I can conclude it could have been manufactured anytime from 1884 to 1908, sorry I couldn’t tie it down to a specific year though.
Have a great weekend!

It is very feminine. I love those flowers, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful piece!... my grandmother did everything in blues and whites, her homes were always so welcoming and put together beautifully. You and she would have had a grand time together.. she used to paint furniture too!
ReplyDeleteGreat price on that. I wonder why half off? Doesn't look like it was chipped on broken anywhere. Love it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely piece. The handles are terrific.Enjoy and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletelove the info. from Rose....made in England or just England. Great tip! Your piece is gorgeous. I have a cliff piece I inherited. Could never figure out what type of bowl it is but I use it at Thanksgiving as a gravy dish 'cause I make lots and lots of gravy. :) xo

Beautiful, Kim! Another score for you!
ReplyDeletelove it!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful piece Kim, I don't blame you for buying it, I think you got it at a great price!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Diana is right another hutch or cupboard in the future?
I learned that you can bleach ironstone in hydrogen peroxide for several days to brighten it and remove stains. I don't know if that would apply to china like this but I don't know why not. It's a great piece, so fitting with your style. I can see it in many future photo shoots! By the way, I was speaking to a professional appraiser of art and antiques this week and she tells me that the market is flooded with china right now. The vintage shop I frequent says the same thing. Good time to buy, if this is your thing.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Just gorgeous, and I think 25 is a wonderful price!! Have fun decorating with it! I'm tackling that ugly chandy this weekend...eeck.

ReplyDeleteI adore this blue and white lidded bowl and I am so glad you bought it!
ReplyDeleteI see it in magazines everywhere and keep hoping blue and white will catch on again and become popular in homes again. I love it so much and have a lot of it for the shop.
(Pulled it all out last year bc it was not selling.)
I am hoping you will start a trend here for me!
