A new dog picture that is or should I say old? Very very old.
This is another bargain I found on our trip last weekend. It is actually my favorite, I think. I guess I say that about each new piece I find. I know it is not the best artwork, but that doesn't matter. It is better than I could do. This was probably someone's early work that most likely improved with each piece.
You can tell by how much the matting has yellowed that it is old. I love the maple frame and no, I will not be painting it. Love it just as it is. The signature is dated '57. I didn't even notice that before. So it is two years younger than me. I told you it was very very old!
Isn't he/she pretty? I have always loved collies. Partly because my grandparents had one when I was very young and from watching Lassie. I loved that show.
I still like the other picture that I had above this chest for fifteen years, but these old dog pictures are showing up now and at really great deals and I don't have that many walls so the other one moved to a new spot.
I think this is perfect here.
Not a bad deal for only $18. Oh, how I am loving the thrill of the hunt.
The store I found this at is the Screen Door in Asheville, NC. Love that store.
Do you love the hunt?
Have a super duper week!

ReplyDeleteKim that is a beauty and the colors are perfect for your dining room, great deal too! I love collies too and loved watching Lassie. They don't make shows like that anymore. Martina
ReplyDeleteHey Kim,
ReplyDeleteYour collie is wonderful. It's as if that picture was suppose to be there all along. Gorgeous addition to your beautiful home.
Paula
We were born in the same year... '59 the year of OLD! (at least it feels like it to me sometimes)
ReplyDeleteKim, I love the new dog, it's so fun to hunt for new pieces to add to collections, and I have enjoyed watching your dog art collection evolve!
Love it, Kim! You are quite the huntress!
ReplyDeleteA great deal for that lovely painting , Kim. Original artwork, whether painted or stitched, IMO, are what makes a home unique and special and not cookie cutter. Your home is unique and that painting looks just right.
ReplyDeleteKim, it looks perfect in that spot. Since I can't even do paint by numbers (yes I'm dating myself) I always have an appreciation for anyone's art talents that are recognizable when finished.
ReplyDeleteI found a great bargain last weekend too, mine is a chalk drawing of a pumpkin, watermelon and apples. Perfect for fall. Thanks for sharing your beautiful collie.
It looks like it was made for that very spot.
ReplyDeleteLisa
It is just beautiful. It looks like my dog, Kane. I would have bought it, too. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4
ReplyDeleteLove it Kim, it's a beauty. There's something about dog pictures that win my heart. hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteYou know how I love anything dog related, and herding dog related just makes it that much more special! Such a great find, and it looks perfect in the spot you chose for it!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
Nice picture, Kim. I guess we are 1 year apart in age. I love maple! It fits so well with my Early American motif, so I am always looking around for maple things.
ReplyDeleteI love it too, just knowing it was a real live dog that was someones pride and joy...Lassie dogs are so gentle looking. So we are the same age! Both younger than Lassie!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI think thats a great god painting and it looks like it found a wonderful spot in your home to be shown off.. great price too~!
Beautiful dog painting at such a bargain price! I love the thrill of the hunt too! You found a perfect spot for it above the buffet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Love the dog painting and love where you found it. You shopped in my old stomping grounds. I was born and raised in Brevard and have aunts, uncles, and cousins living in Asheville so try to hit the shops on River Road (old tobacco warehouses) whenever I get back home.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty your new dog looks in its new setting! Hope you had a great weekend! Love the weather!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteKim, She is a beauty and looks wonderful above the blue chest. Great buy too.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry

Hi Kimmie! Oh, I love your new/old dog painting. Something about it just warms my heart. I can hear the whistling of the theme song for Lassie and it almost brings me to tears! I loved that show! ;)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love it too! I love collies, yep, better than I could do also!
ReplyDeleteCarol
Kim, I loved Lassie, too. It looks like a great painting! Linda
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, you are right. Such a wonderful painting. We had a Collie and her name was Bridgie. Loved her so much. She's the dog my children grew up with. Your painting looks wonderful above that chest. Perfect size and color. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI'm still drawing stick figures, so this looks like fine art to me! Your painting is just perfect for that spot. We have a dog that looks almost like your painting. She's part collie, but her snout is shorter than a true collie. You are so good at finding the best deals!
ReplyDeleteI love your painting!!! I think the artist was really pretty good!!! The size suggests someone who was pretty sure of their ability. Looks great where you have placed it!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!!
Made me think of Lassie as soon as I saw it! ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteGreat photo Kim!!
ReplyDeleteThose lamps are the perfect height for that photo!! Great place for it!!
Love this and it is perfect in that spot. The background of the picture goes well with your chest and makes the whole setting come together.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful find Kim. I love the softness. Looks wonderful above the chest!
ReplyDeleteYour sweet collie looks so nice above your chest. The colors work really well.
ReplyDeleteHe/she also reminds me of our old collie, but ours didn't have a blaze on his face. Have a great week.
Great deal you got there Kim...I'm going to The Screen Door when I'm in Asheville this month...can't wait to do some shopping!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Lassie? What show was that? Oh yeah, that's right. That was before my time wasn't it? Ha! I think I recall seeing it in reruns or something. I really do like your new picture though. You're starting to get quite a collection of dog pictures now.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! I had collies growing up and your post too me back. I remember them running around the yard chasing rabbits and laying in the evenings on our wrap around front porch. Makes me miss home.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your new painting and the whole area it is in! All the details of that wall are perfect! I used to live near Asheville - they had so many great places to shop.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting and it has a perfect new home!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
Love the new pup, loved Lassie too, and you are not old!
ReplyDeleteI think he/she looks fantastic above the blue piece!

I'm not finding any dog things, where are you finding all these dogs???...... love it. And I love how you change things out in your home so often without spending a fortune, this is something I'm not good at...yet.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI love your new picture. It's the perfect spot for it.I can't believe i had about ten dog pictures, and i sold them at the consignment shop.I could kick myself.
Kathy
Kim, I can see why this was an easy purchase for you. Knowing how you love art with dogs this was a great buy. Like you I love it for the simple beauty and the great frame. I think is looks fabulous in its new home. Not only do I like the pic, I love the lamps and shades (perfect color} and the one lovely tureen. The vignette is gorgeous for your chest. Hope you have a super week too.......

Well yes I do love the hunt. A little too much, I think. I'm starting to worry that my house will soon qualify for an episode of the TV show "Hoarding". Adore your new collie picture.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting and looks great in your spot!! Dog pics pull my heartstrings too! You've found some wonderful deals or should I say steals!! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIt looks magnificent in that place. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little girl, my favorite Aunt Lillian had a collie..Queenie was her name and she protected us kids like crazy. If we got too close to the street, she would bite our clothes, pulling us back. I hadn't thought of her in years, Kim...thanks for the sweet memory.
You just keep looking for those great pictures and paintings. They are adding such a nice layer to your beautiful home.
xoxo
the old amateur paintings are my all time favorites and yours is charming!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Love your toile drapes too...I have rolls of something similar and I'm thinking about using it to transform my bedroom. The colors in the dog art match perfectly!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, your display and collection of dog paintings and pictures are just beautiful. What a great find!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day,
Gail
Love the painting and I loved watching Lassie.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I love the simplicity of it. Perfect spot for it too.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful picture. Please keep in mind that the matting is probably acidic and the yellowing is the acid in the paper doing its work. To save the acid from migrating to the art, consider having it rematted in an archival quality mat--you should be able to match the color if you like the look.
ReplyDeleteI love it Kim- it is so charming! What a sweet pup. I found an older oil painting of a dog a few years back- I'll have to share it sometime. Dog portraits are just so sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteKim, it's a charming painting. Glad you found it. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI love Collies. They are so regal and dignified! I am loving all the dog pictures you're finding. My hubby scored big time on some great engravings, which I'll show on my blog this week. A few dog ones, but many pastoral farm scenes with goats, cows, horses etc. I also still love your newly painted chest and drapes. I still plan on ordering the same fabric for my Master, just in the flax colourway.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I see your blue buffet it makes my heart skip a beat! So pretty! The dog picture is gorgeous too!
ReplyDeleteXO
Kristin
Lassie is the first thing I thought of. Nice find, Kim.
ReplyDeletelooks a little like my pup, Bandit, but my dog is a sheltie so much shorter legs. I think the picture is wonderful in your setting. perfect indeed

Love the picture Kim and it does look great where you have it! I love those lamps with the gingham shades!!
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda :)
That painting couldn't be more perfect for that spot. It looks gorgeous with that chest. Your home is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI dearly love painting of pets..but so far none have come across my path. I also love snow scenes..and managed to find ONE.
ReplyDeleteYour finds look fantastic in your home.
Do I love the hunt?? Are you kidding? I live for the hunt. Weekly we are out adventuring. I call it a treasure hunt.
Adorable.. and not so very old at all, hahaha...:-) I love dog paintings, and have a whole wall with them at home ( actually on my latest blog post )- it's just so super cosy to have dog paintings!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this "Lassie" picture! The thrill of the hunt and the art of the deal are my Christmas & birthday all rolled into one! The colors in the painting compliment the buffet lamps & the color of the chest is beautifully magnified. Always look forward to your finds & projects.
ReplyDeleteThe picture looks great above your pretty chest! I loved watching Lassie!
ReplyDeleteThe hunt sometimes gets me weary but the right find makes it all worth while!
The dog picture caught my eye. Love it! So glad you gave it a nice new home. ;)
