Everything I used on this table I already had except the large pine cones. I ordered a variety of pine cones from pinecones.com. I think I had read about this company in the Country Living magazine and I had already been thinking about using pine cones, but don't really have any nice ones around here so I ordered them.
I have never seen one of these pine cones before. This is called a coulter pine cone. It is about the size of a pineapple and is very heavy like one. When the box arrived and I picked it up I was surprised how heavy the box was. I thought this can't be pine cones. It is too heavy. Then I opened the box up and saw these gigantic very unusual cones. I had ordered just three of them. The other box had the sugar pine cones in it.
Here are the adult and young sugar pine cones. I ordered a few of each kind.
This little fellow came from Pier One last year.
I only decorated one regular size tree this year and it is real. I just couldn't handle going up and down the ladder to do the nine foot trees. I love the real tree. It has been a long time since we have had one. Doing only one tree gave me a ton of leftover ornaments so I have place them in different vessels around the house. This large glass hurricane is holding some favorites of mine.
I received this doll ornament many years ago when I used to work a full time job. We would exchanged ornaments at our party each year.
Most of the other ones in here are from the Macy's after Christmas clearance sell one year.
I have also used a lot of real greenery. We have leland cypress trees in the back yard so I have an endless supply of greenery when I need it.
Everything sits on a black tray except the Santa candle holder.
Here you can really see the size of the coulter pine cone on the right. It's huge!
Lots more to come so stay tuned.

So lovely and a great idea for people without mantels.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's any style table prettier than a drop leaf. I own two of them and would love to have a third. Just love them!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Kim! I love the wreath hanging in the background. Martina
ReplyDeleteI love drop leaf tables....never heard of coulter pieces, they are heat. Pretty photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. We inherited 2 large boxes of pine cones. The boxes have not been opened for a couple of years and then only by dear hubby. Recently, spied them in the basement. I should see just what is in those boxes and see if they are as big as yours.

I just adore that trio of birds sitting on the twig! And I was planning on using pinecones in decorating this year. A neighbor had some huge ones last year, but when we went to get some, the tree did not produce the large ones this year. I didn't think about ordering any. Yours are just beautiful!

ReplyDeletethe tabletop is beautiful but I'm curious about the table.. Was it in that shape when you got it or did you refinish it? My father in law gave me one just like it when my mother in law passed but it is in bad shape and I don't want to mess it up by doing the wrong thing to it. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeletescrumptious as usual!!

Shelia ;)
Beautiful, Kim! You're right that is one big pinecone ... love it! And, the wreath hanging in the background looks wonderful ... also love the ornaments in the bowl ... great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you tied the wreath to the stairway. It made me realize how about 3 wreaths hanging on our open stairway would look really pretty. Maybe next year. I really did cut down on the decorations this year and I'm perfectly content with the choice! The tabletop looks very pretty. I like how you used the extra ornaments.
ReplyDeletethe table looks lovely! those pinecones are huge! susan

ReplyDeleteA beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a pinecone! They are huge and so pretty too. I hope you are enjoying the scent of a real tree this year. We went back to fake after a getting a real one last year. I just love the 9' tree and I can't imagine what a real one would cost (and not last for years either!)

Kim, your drop leaf table is so beautifully set. I just put a similar table in my booth in Cape May. I wish I had room in my house for it. I love where your is by the steps, but alas, my foyer is rather small. Your vignette on it is perfect. I love the huge pinecones. I gather much smaller ones around here, but love to use them too. A Happy New Year to you and yours.
