Is it really Thursday already? This week is kind of a blur. Actually today feels like Monday to me because Mr. Savvy went back to work all by himself today. Finally able to drive again even though I am not so sure he should with the medications he is on. I have been waiting on him hand and foot and I had Leila twice this week, too. The house is a wreck with everyone here and I couldn't vacuum so today is clean the house day with him gone. He probably will only work a few hours and then come home and lie back down.
Here is my latest project that I completed last weekend.
.............I just ripped the fabric off once I lifted up a corner and was left with this.
You know what? This was actually a good thing. I knew these leftover hunks of paint would really add some texture to the aged paint process. Now I just needed to figure out what color I wanted to use.
I ended up using layers of ASCP colors on the inserts. The outside is CoCo which I had already shown with the ticking still there.
Here you can see the textures that the old paint helped add.
Took this shot to capture the shine from the waxing.
This goes much better with the new room design that you will see later.
I will share the step by step tutorial with pictures of how I created this finish in another post.
You are brave Kim, but in the end it did work out for you. Great aged look.
ReplyDeleteKim that looks soooooo good!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy Mr. Savvy is feeling better. The tv cabinet looks fabulous. Great job. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteno bain-er!!!
ReplyDeleteglad savvy hubby is up and around
yes that does a good job of creating an aged look. I think the ripping it off part is exactly how I would have tackled the project!!! Looking forward to the room reveal~
ReplyDeleteWell that worked out nicely!:)
ReplyDeleteThat would be pretty over the entire cabinet. Those doors turned out great! Glad to hear that hubby is doing better. All "sicky's" have gotten better here too. Tomorrow, Jimmy and I are FINALLY working in the yard all day. I'm holding him to his promise.
ReplyDeleteKismet! Love the look-- so much interest and texture. Home run!
ReplyDeleteLove it and I am SO glad you are gonna show us how to get the look. I have the perfect piece for this!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Kim! I would've been so afraid just "ripping" the fabric off ... you're such a thrill seeker, aren't cha? ;)
ReplyDeleteWonderful look...I love it!
ReplyDelete♥charlotte
Well, that worked out then, Kim! A distressed look and you didn't even have to do anything! : )
ReplyDeleteI'm actually surprised your first thought wasn't just to rip it off and be gone with it! Looks great all aged.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how The Grands leave no time for us to do housework, but when our own kids were little we got it done. My house is zones of disaster today as well, but I'm not sure it will be better tomorrow.
~Bliss~
That turned out so great, Kim! I love the texture the paint fragments gave the piece! Hope your husband is doing better...back pain is NO fun!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out delightful. I love the size of your cabinet, I have been on the search for something smaller that can work on a wall or a corner. Love the old worn feel it has. Perfect!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!! The added texture is just what it needed. Can't wait for the tutorial. You still are the best at mixing those ASCP colors together.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, love that color!!
ReplyDeleteOnly you could turn what seems to be a disaster into something wonderful! Glad the Mr. is up and around. Blessings to you both.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! Love the texture and the color.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great improvement! The aged look is very nice...aren't you glad you decided to rip it off!? Cannot wait to see the entire room.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great Kim. I would have ripped it off too....Love the texture.
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job as always my dear friend..I hope that Mr. is doing better..Hugs and smiles girl Gloria

ReplyDeleteLooks great. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI love how the texture shows through in the paint. It makes it have so much character!
ReplyDeleteIt looks really great, Kim. Good vision! Take care of that man.
ReplyDeleteWell, that looks good, Kim! It does look like it has been around 100 years! I'm glad MrS is feeling better and I hope YOU don't get it. It's amazing how we can move mountains when we are by ourselves, isn't it? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYou're amazing Kimmie! You always do such a great job on everything!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
You are a brave woman, but then you know what you are doing!!! LOL! It looks terrific and I can't wait to see the room. Glad Mr. S. is feeling better. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your husband is feeling better, and I hope he didn't push himself too hard today. You have been a busy lady, tending to family and painting too?! The cabinet looks wonderful and I love the color!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
i liked the look of the ticking fabric before, but love the new look too. I live with kid mess daily....it can get me so frustrated, but I know I'll miss it when they're grown and gone =)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this effect!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteKim, glad Mr. Savvy went to work, even if for a few hours. I do hope you get some rest! Can't wait to see the finished look of your cabinet!
ReplyDeleteKim the TV cabinet looks much better with the aged look.
ReplyDeleteI like that look a lot. The texture is fabulous. So French looking :)
ReplyDeleteMorning Kim,
ReplyDeleteDon't you love it when disaster turns into delectable!!

Oh, it looks great! You just can't screw any of this stuff up....you should open your own shop. And now I have to see what I missed, hope your husband is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteThe cabinet looks lovely, Kim! That grey is just perfect, and leaving the patches really adds character. I think picking at the corner of ANYTHING and pulling with abandon is so empowering! I once did that with wall to wall carpeting without knowing what might greet me underneath. (Hard wood. Yay!) Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the aged look. I am always ripping things of. Sometimes it works great, sometimes not so good. :)
ReplyDeleteVery brave of you, but brilliant! It looks great.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great and the chunks and inperfections worked "for" your end result.... fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou just keep getting better and better with your ASCP artform!!!
I hope Miss Bailey can come over and play with all the other puppy furry loves at the linky party!!??

I don't know how you found time for this project with taking care of all your "babies!" lol I love it. The aged and textured effect looks so much more authentic. Perfect for your style!
ReplyDeleteI love the change - you have taken the cabinet to a different level altogether!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you transformed the cabinet. The color is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe cabinet turned out great. you cant even tell that there was ever fabric there.
ReplyDeleteLauren
LOVE how the potential problem turned into an asset! I can't wait to see the whole room all finished. I'm loving seeing your progress and changes. This is a BEAUTIFUL room with all those great french windows!

Looks great, Kim! I love the aged finish. xo, Sherry
ReplyDeleteLove the aged look. It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI love ASCP CoCo, it's my favorite and when you pair it with Paris Gray...oh my it's so pretty. I've done one table with that combo, have two more to go. It's yum!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the texture is wonderful. The piece turned out wonderful.
Where do you find the energy? You totally amaze me, Kim. It looks great. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim ... so nice that it actually helped give your piece the aged look. :)
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great.I would have done the same thing.Love the color combination.I wish our television were that size and in small cabinet. Some things I don't have a say about in this house and that is one of them.We have a monstrosity of a television in a huge cabinet.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I want all my pieces to turn out like that-good instincts you have :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic finish! Perfect mix of color and great technique... love the new look.
ReplyDeleteI Love how that turned out... I need to get some paint & wax & get adventurous!
