This cabinet has four different colors used on it plus wax. Excuse the guy wiping his nose when I took this picture. All paint colors are Annie Sloan chalk paint except for the gold.
The outside was done in CoCo. The inserts first layer is French Linen.
I then took a small artist brush and just dabbed Old White on in random areas.
Then I take a damp paper towel and blot and spread the white around.
Then I took gold craft paint and brushed it on here and there and blended it with the damp towel. Also added Graphite ASCP in spots and heavier in the corners and down the sides and blend.
After the paints dried I sanded lightly all over with a sanding block and heavier on some of the edges.
Then it was waxed with clear wax and some dark in places and then buffed.
Here you can see all the different colors from each step.

I love it- what a great tutorial on the process too. I have both french linen and coco and to me in person- they look just the same- but I can definitely see a difference with your piece.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is AWESOME!!! I love the weathered, aged look, but I never feel like I get it right. You TOTALLY nailed it. Thanks- I think I might have to go try some of this out this week. There's a curio in my garage that's been begging for a makeover for a while now... :)
ReplyDeleteYou know you make this sound so easy...until I get a brush in my hand! I really do think you have to have a true skill for this to know just where to put those "blobs" of different colors and just where to sand. It looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI just love how that turned out. Great transformation!
ReplyDeleteI love it! You always do such a fantastic job when you paint furniture!
ReplyDeleteKim you are amazing! I love this and your creativity in using/ blending multiple colors. It really makes a difference!

GREAT job, Kim! Your steps are easy to follow. The piece looks a hundred years old! Now if you could just recreated AGING in the reverse process to use on old faces I will be your first guinea pig! Get cracking, will ya? The sooner I get help the happier I'll be! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThis finish makes the piece look really old and rustic. Pretyt color. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you paint your pieces and wondered how you did it. I tried to do something like this on my kitchen island, maybe I just need to add another color or two. & of course not be a chicken! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove that technique.Turned out great.
ReplyDeleteI just saw your comment about networked blogs Kim. I already have networked blogs too- I don't know why I didn't think of adding that to my blog for following! Thanks for the reminder~ when I get it up on there- I will follow you too! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I need to go buy paint and wax. I haven't painted any furniture in a long time. This post is giving me the itch!

Wow! Incredible job! I love the depth of the color! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've got to try the ASCP, but first I have to buy a piece of furniture to paint. Bob would have a fit if I did any we already have. I do have a drum table similar to the one in your study, but when I mentioned it, he said "you want to paint THIS table"? LOL OK...I guess not. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this look Kim!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHey, Kim! Can you help me out? I'm trying to get my buttons lined up side-by-side on my sidebar like yours. What's the trick? I've got them all resized to 125x125 and aligned left. Can you help a new sister out? BTW - love the tv cabinet! Awesome job!
ReplyDeletePerfect tutorial! You have the talent and the colors blend so well.
ReplyDeleteKim...the cabinet turned out so great!!
