Now on to the hutch. Some of you may not know that this was Mr. Savvy's mom's hutch. She died from cancer when he was fifteen. So of course he has hung on to this piece.
This is the finished look except I may add some more dark wax to the left door. Always find things wrong when I look at pictures.
Now I will give you the steps of what I did and more finished shots.
I painted the whole piece with Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen. I have used this on everything and still have half a can left. I then painted the doors and drawers with a coat of Paris Gray AScp.
Then I took Aubusson chalk paint and brushed it in spots with a smaller brush (just like the cabinet in the sun room method) and took a damp paper towel and blended it. Here you can see one door done and one not.
You can see how the Aubusson has been added to these doors.
After all the paint was dry I started sanding it.
You can see the many layers of colors here. This poor hutch has been painted several times. Of course I love the layers that show through with sanding.
Now, the rest of the pictures are the finished piece. I used clear wax all over the whole thing and then added dark wax in places.
I also added some Provence chalk paint in places on the doors.
Oh, and yes I worked on this in the great room. I had a drop cloth down while working.
Here you can see the Chateau Gray and Old Ochre that were the colors it was before this time.
I will show it too you in the bathroom soon.

ReplyDeleteKim, I think you've read my mind! I have an armoire in my bedroom that I've been planning on painting for ages. I bought one can of ASCP (one of the whites) but knew I wanted a layered look. Due to lack of time and not being quite sure how to achieve this look it hasn't happened yet. Now you've provided me with just the inspiration and how-to I needed! Thank you! Thank you! Now, any tips on finding the time? :)

ReplyDeleteBlessings,

Love, love how it turned out. Looks fabulous....
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, how I'd love to have your chalk paint talent! You make it look easy, but you've got a skill! That treatment would look great on that french cabinet that I bought last fall (not sure if you remember the one I showed you, that I'd like to change to glass to chicken wire?). I actually bought more chalk paint and dark wax yesterday in anticipation of being able to paint again soon, once babe is here, and I can bend =) mind you, I'm a bit dilusional in thinking I'll have the time lol. There's always nap times =)
ReplyDeleteKim this is such a gorgeous hutch with so much meaning and sentiment. I love it!

Kim, the hutch looks so pretty! What a great piece to have! It has such sentimental value!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you are able to use this cherished piece in your home. I love the weathered, worn finish you created with the paint. I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's especially nice because of who it originally belonged to. A beautiful piece to look at and remember someone you loved.
ReplyDeleteFirst I must tell you I'm a big fan of your blog. Thank you so much for all the wonderful posts...your's is the first I go to on my google reader.
ReplyDeleteI have a ASCP question. Do you always use her waxes too or is there any other wax you use on her paint. Like a Minwax? Just checking I've bought a can of the paint but didn't pick up the wax and it was an hour away special trip to buy the paint.
Again thank you for all the hard work you put into your posts.
Visiting through FFF. Pinned you to my Chalk Paint board! http://pinterest.com/scf1270/chalk-paint-furniture-ideas/
