This mirror has a lot of detail to it and I knew painting it in layers would bring it out.
The mirror was originally gold. Well, that just would not do with the new look in the room. So I got out my Annie Sloan chalk paints, of course.
I painted the entire frame with Graphite and let that dry.
Then I painted the entire frame with Antibes which is the green you see.
Third layer is French Linen over all of it.
Then I dry brushed Old White in places. Waxed with clear and dark waxes and sanded to reveal the layers.
I am loving the way it turned out.
Happy Friday

ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLooks terrific. Love how the paint highlights the details. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThis turned out amazing. Thank you for sharing the colors you used. Recently I have been experimenting with layers of ASCP. I must say, your white dry brushing technique added the finishing touch. I need to give that a try.

Kim- It looks GREAT! I have a question for you though. Do you wax BEFORE you sand to show the layers? I have always sanded first and then applied the wax. Does it work better applying the wax first? After sanding do you apply another coat of wax at all?
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great Friday-xo Diana
That's beautiful Kim! I love all of the layers. This is something I have not tried yet with the chalk paint. I am definitely going to now. Thank you for sharing your creativity!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty Kim! I thought about you while at Target yesterday. Have you seen their cow creamers? Cute and a little chunkier than most. They have them in different colors too although I still love white the best.

Kim, the mirror details are lovely. I like that you see a reflection of the hanging shelf rack full of your beautiful dishes. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteIt turned out just perfect, and you know I love anything with a little Antibes Green peeking through.
ReplyDeleteLove how that mirror looks too. THe Antibes is just a shocking green and it looks so nice when it is used this way.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Kim, looks like an antique from a fine French home. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteGosh, what a lovely job Kim! How did you know to paint it those colors? I have 2 huge wood carved mirrors I got at an antique shop years ago and I would love to paint them... but I just don't want to mess them up.
ReplyDeleteYour mirror is stunning!
Yvonne
I have read both ways - wax before or wax after sanding. Do you always wax first?
ReplyDeleteBliss
Love how you used the barstool been looking for a small step ladder to do similar thing may have to try this idea
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love seeing the various colors. I think I have the exact same mirror in my dining room, and this is making me think twice about keeping the gold. How nice of you to figure these things out for us, and do all the practicing, so we can just take the easy way out and copy you :)
