Rooster to Apples

When we went on our little out of town trip a couple of weekends ago I did get to stop at a favorite antique mall and found a couple of things. Today I want to show you one of those finds.

If you are a regular reader of mine then you know I am always on the hunt for these old olive jars and this one is a beauty. The tag read dark green and I think you can tell in this light.

In most pictures it looks black. 

I placed it on this chair to show the wear of this very old piece.

All that wear just makes it better to me.

When I first started taking pictures for this post the vignette on the bookcase looked like this.

I wasn't loving that look and got tired of the rooster painting so I changed it.

I decided to place my apple painting here and like it a lot better.
I added another olive jar and a piece of driftwood since I like combining natural elements in a vignette .

Funny, every piece here was bought at antique malls.
The dark green olive jar was a bargain at $68 and by paying cash I got an extra ten percent off.

    I like the apples better in that place too. Not only do they show off better than the rooster, but the simplicity of the pic helps the jar be more noticeable too. The thrill of the hunt isn't it?

    I really feel you scored big on this one...It is a spectacular piece and I really feel you got a great deal...Way back when I collected old pottery, mostly salt glazed and Redwing and they were mainly crocks..I love the shape of the olive jar..a more interesting shape..

    Funny..when you bring in a new item, do you find that you change out many things along with it?...I do..especially artwork..Replace one, and rearrange many..

    I love the patina on that jar. Putting the other jar beside your new one on your shelf really set it off more and echoes its shape. Love it with the apple painting - such a pretty vignette. I bet you walk by and smile.

    I agree the olive jar against the apple painting is fantastic. It gives it a calming and peaceful look, and lets your eyes take it all in. Great find and I never knew that type of crock was classified as an olive jar. I learned something new today:)

    I LOVE the new Olive Jar! I have a few "fake" ones that were Southern living, but I'm always on the lookout for real ones. I have some very old Bean pots in my Dr. Oh and I LOve the table you painted! Absolutely GORGEOUS!
