I wanted it to go with the piece below it, but have more of a vibrant color.
First I painted it all over with Paris Gray Annie Sloan chalk paint. Then I went over some of it with Country Gray. I then waxed it and thought I was finished.
But after living with it for a couple of weeks it was just blending into the wall color so I grabbed another can of chalk paint that I have had for a long time. I used Old Violet which is really more of a blue.
Now it was looking much better and was not blending with the wall anymore.
I distressed it and added gold rub n buff here and there to make it look like it had some gilding at one time.
I found this blue and white transferware bowl last week and had intended on using it somewhere else, but it didn't work out and ended up here.
I was cleaning out some junk stuff the other day and found this little framed water color that I have had for many years and decided to hang it here.
Always fun to find something stashed away that can be used again.
The shelf is filled with plates and pitchers collected over time.
Here is a reminder of the way it looked before. It really was just plain cheap pine boards with a lot of bad places on them so I am liking the painted version much better.
I still have not heard from PATRICIA who WON the Annie Sloan book the other day.
Patricia, where are you??

I only thought I loved your plate shelf before. I adore it now! The way you blended the colors and gold and sanding is just perfect. You really do have Savvy Southern Style.

ReplyDeleteHi, Kim!!!
ReplyDeleteAgain, GREAT job! I never used violet, you are making me want to try it! Funny how you make me want to try new colors, I believe you did that with a green frame you painted. Kim,
what is the "Gold Rub" you used? Can you tell me how, and the name of the product?
Thanks!!!
Thats a very unique plate rack! But i do like it a lot better painted!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great focal point on that wall now in its painted form, Kim.

ReplyDeleteRose H
Love the new look Kim, I think what really makes it all pop is the green items you have displayed. Great contrast to the violet shade:)
ReplyDeleteWow, Kim. I love your painting technique. Looks like it really has been worn with time. I would never have guessed you just painted it. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you made it match the piece of furniture beneath it. It looks like they go together now. That is a great color you selected for it. I liked the way it was before too, but since it's hanging over the grey cabinet, it looks even better now! I never realized you had so many of the same style pitchers too. You've got a nice collection going.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty -- I love the way the lamp light goes up and makes it all pop!
ReplyDeletethat looks so good! I love the 3 color blend. I am looking for a dark blue to paint an armoire, i think i will try the old violet, it looks really pretty!

ReplyDeleteIt looks great Kim! I love the Rub N Buff you added as well. I just ordered some AS gilding Wax and am interested in seeing how it is different from Rub N Buff.

My eye just went to your seltzer bottle. I love bottles of all kinds but the seltzers are special. Good work on your plate rack.
ReplyDeleteLove your shelf. It's just the right size to fit in so many places. I line the paint job too. The little painting and blue plate finish it all off. It's so much fun to rearrange and play house isn't it?
