I am adding more blue to the sun room now that the green walls are gone. There is just something so appealing and fresh about blue and white. I had lots of blue and white when we first moved in our house sixteen years ago and then I started switching to reds, greens and yellows. Well, now I am adding more blue back in. What goes around comes around.
While walking around an antique mall a couple of weeks ago I lucked up on this blue and white transferware plate called Old Britain Castles. It was $12.99 for this dinner size plate. I really was trying to find two of each plate design so I kept looking around. I found another one at the same mall, but it was $26.99. Nope, nada. So the hunt continued.
This plate is old with discoloration and crazing that are not showing very well in this picture.
While hunting I happened upon two of these lunch size plates. Perfect, I'll take those.
A few days later I found two of these plates at Marshall's for $3.99 each.
After not finding a duplicate of the first transferware plate I looked on ebay and found one.
It was only $3.99! The price for shipping made up for the difference though. I ordered it and it came very quickly. It was not an old one, but you cannot tell that since it is on the wall.
I moved this bench from the stairwell to this spot in the sun room when Mr. Savvy was home healing from his back surgery. He asked me what I was doing, playing house? Yes, dear, I am playing house. That is what he says every time I start moving things around. I will share wide shots of the sun room, with the blue and white plates and the new pillows that finally came, soon.
This is the time of year when I love my sun room the most. It feels like a nice big tree house.
Have a super weekend!

I used to have the blue and white plates too, (actually still do and use them at Thanksgiving, with everyone getting a different plate, love it!) and then went to the green, red and yellow, now back to the blue. I think blue and white will ALWAYS find their way back to my home! Can't wait to see the total look of the sun room!
ReplyDeleteLove those reds and blues together! It's gonna look sensational I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteHusbands just don't get us sometimes. My post today was on a similar subject. Love the blue and white, I've switched out the reds in my master to blue and white, but now sort of wishing I'd gone with black and white. Oh well, next time.
ReplyDeleteI actually have two of the first plate (the castle one) :) funny
ReplyDeleteLOVE! The blue is a perfect addition Kim to my favorite room in your house! Mr. Savvy is funny now isn't he? Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteLove those blue and white dishes. There is something fresh, clean and soothing about blue and white dishes. My Mr. is not around when I arrange things.I usually surprise him when he comes home LOL.

ReplyDeleteLove the blue and white, Kim. It's so classic. Only having a sunroom for the first time in the new place, it's amazing the light that comes in. I love the tree outside that window. I can imagine you might feel like you are in a treehouse.
ReplyDeleteOh Kim can't wait for the full view, I know it's going to be so pretty!! Isn't it fun playing house! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour blue and white plates look very crisp and clean on your sunroom wall. What's up with husbands? They sometimes just don't get us.

I love the blue and white. I want to do those colors in my kitchen. But I also want to add pale yellows as well. I have a large set of Blue Danube china that I want to put back in my china cabinet.
ReplyDeleteI just bought those exact plates in red at Home Sense! I prefer the blue and white, but they only had red. Love them in your sunroom!
ReplyDeleteThe plates are lovely and the patterns are gorgeous. Looks great. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLoving all the blue, the plates are a great addition. You crack me up always moving things. I drive my hubby crazy rearranging:)
ReplyDeleteLove your new plates. You found some good deals and a nice and interesting variety to add to your walls. Happy Friday!

ReplyDeleteKim, you have such good intuition...just when I think everything looks perfect and you shouldn't change a thing, you move, add or tweak something and it looks better than ever!
ReplyDeleteYou just can't go wrong with blue & white transferware. Especially with your red accent pieces.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks really nice and fresh in your sunroom, Kim. I love the MrS asks you if you are playing house. Next time he asks you that tell you NO-I am moving out! See what he says to that!
ReplyDeleteI had blue and white for years, too, Kim. Then I kind of got away from it and gave my blue and white china and dishes (most of them) to my one daughter...who got tired of them and gave them away!:<( I wish I had some of them back now. She did keep her great grandmother's old Currier and Ives set and uses it for her Christmas dishes.
Have a great weekend. xo Diana
So pretty. I love your bargains. Very elegant.
ReplyDeleteI love blue - every room should have some of it. I have the castle plate by Johnson Bros, and I have it in red too!
ReplyDeleteLove your blue plates...they are beautiful! Can't wait to see the rest of the sunroom :o) Have a great weekend!

Beautiful sunroom!! I have a set of Currier and Ives blue transfer ware that belonged to my grandmother. The set is made up of several different patterns. I love to use it to set the table during holidays and special occasions, but also love to use a small bowl or plate just for myself when I need or want a little something special.
ReplyDeleteI have just started a blog and hope you can visit! As a matter of fact, I posted a picture of one of my small bowls that I used just yesterday!
Blessings,
Robin ~ Southern Bella
I love the blue and white plates. I have some similar ones to yours. I like playing house too! (Always have)
ReplyDeleteLove the blue and white. You may know that blue, yellow and white is my favorite yellow combination. Very Frenchy and about as Frenchy I am able to get.

ReplyDeleteYou simply cannot go wrong with blue and white in my book Kim!
ReplyDeleteBlue and white on a sun porch just seems "right" to me, so crisp and fresh. Guys just don't get it when it comes to freshening up our homes in the spring...or any time for that matter. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI loved "playing house" since I was a child...was forever rearranging furniture...Great plates..glad you found the second one...they look great on the wall...Love using plates, etc in a sunny room...no chance for fading!..Learned that lesson the hard way!...

You are adding pretty blue and white and I am getting rid of mine.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify, when you came to visit my blog, you were thinking the cloche was called a glass chimney, but the glass cylinder chimney was on

ReplyDeletesince I PROMISED Mr. Sweet to never, EVER ask him to build ME another single thing, I might ask if he can build HIM a beautiful sunroom...just like at Savvy Southern Style. :)
This is the best time of year. Everything is so new and green!
ReplyDeleteYour sunroom looks so inviting, and I love the addition of the blue and white! It's so classic and timeless!

ReplyDeleteI do love that blue and white, too. But, I haven't done a lot with it since it's out of my color "comfort zone". They look great hanging on the wall like that. May have to give it a try!
