I placed them in the dining room and lived with them like this for a couple of weeks, but something just wasn't feeling right to me. I know what it is. Can you say BORING? I am sure you can guess where this is going. :)
Yep, out came some Annie Sloan chalk paint.
I brushed Country Grey haphazardly all over both of them.
Then I took a damp paper towel and dabbed it all over and rubbed it to take some paint back off and to soften it. Then that wasn't enough of a change so I grabbed a sample pot of Louis Blue and brushed it here and there and took some of that back off with the wet paper towel.
I love the way they turned out and it only took me ten minutes.
I pulled out this planter that was stored away and filled it with plastic bags and then piled the top with my shell collection.
I like using shells during the summer months for a nice looking centerpiece.
Now the new look is much better instead of dark and drab.
You can see this is where the kuboo chairs ended up that use to be in the sun room.
I will share how I made a simple change to the cushions and a closer look at the pillows soon.
Miss Bailey always looks out the window over there and is ruining the finish on the shutters.

Kim,
ReplyDeleteLove the look.So much softer. And looks great with your cabinet and white ironstone.
Anne
Love that they're concrete. I think some people are just born with a "paint" gene. You're one of 'em! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the look of the painted candlesticks, Kim and the shells. The Kuboo chairs are perfect!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how you totally transform your rooms. Beautiful job of course... and when I think of how completely different this room looked not all that long ago!...
ReplyDeleteI adore concrete and would love them. They look handsome, large and in charge on your table.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing ASCP can't do! I love the added hint of blue, it really works well in your dining room, playing off the yellow chairs:)

It's amazing what a little painting and dabbing can do. The fit in with the tablescape beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHi, Liz
ReplyDeleteI love it! The chairs are my favorite color too.
Vanessa
Those look great Kim! 30lbs YIKES! Love the chairs in there too.
ReplyDeleteBoy, I wish I had an eye for that sort of thing. I would probably have gotten out the red spray paint and sprayed heavily all over.
ReplyDeleteVery nice upgrade!
What a great job you did! Your room looks amazing, fresh and elegant! The cabinet is great with all your transformation! Happy week.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
I loved them the original way until I saw what your ASCP did. Wonderful. Definitely looks better. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think they not only look better painted...they look perfect in that room! I hope you didn't have to pay shipping on concrete! That would add up quickly.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe they weigh so much but what a great find!!!! My pooches like to look out the windows too :o) So, when are you going to be painting those chairs? LOL
ReplyDelete~Des
Like the changes Kim. The candle sticks stand out a lot more now!
ReplyDeleteOk. When did I miss the hutch going gray and blue?? Have I been sleep at the read? It's fantastic! The best look yet!! And the baulasters look great.
ReplyDeleteVery southern glam, Kim!
ReplyDeleteMuch more interesting looking now, Kim. I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses plastic bags to "fill" the bottom of a container before adding the pretties.
ReplyDeleteMuch better Kim, they really pop now. Your Kuboo chairs look good in your dining room.
ReplyDeleteOh, oh. I hope you don't have to put tin foil on the shutters. Love the wicker chairs at the ends of your table.
ReplyDeleteThere you go with your magic paintbrush! I think the changes you made to the candlesticks is spot on! Beautiful. And those chairs in your dinning room are FABULOUS! I want to copy this look!!!!!! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me so!
I knew it! I knew you were going to paint these candlesticks. They look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
shelia ;)
I love the way you changed the color of the candlesticks. They look great. I also was happy to get a peek of that cute Miss Bailey-- it reminds me of a Scottie we had when I was growing up. She would wait all day at the window hoping she would see a lizard on the windowsill. We all knew when she spotted one! Hug that sweet baby for me, please.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the candle sticks and I really like the planter with the shells.
ReplyDeletePoor Miss Bailey, she needs longer legs so she can see out. Awww..
I love the way you transform pieces with the chalk paint. The do look much lighter and brighter after the paint job. Miss Baily "so cute"
ReplyDeleteLove the shape and the new color is super. Great with the sea shells. Great job. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteSo funny about Bailey. My schnauzer looks out the window in the living room and has taken half the paint off of the window with his claws.
ReplyDeleteKim you are like me with photos, you need to "fidget" with things to make them the way you want. I love the new look on these, and also where the cow pics ended up from your last post!
ReplyDeleteKat
Your dining room is looking great. You are the queen of transformation, Kim! I LOVE those Kuboo chairs, LOOOOOVE. Have a great week. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteOMG! 30 # EACH? Are you kidding me? You could use those to sink a body in your pond out back!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look LOTS better with their remake! xo Diana

ReplyDeleteHi, Kim! I just love the shape of these candlesticks. I have some very similar (heavy but not concrete heavy!) and they've been painted a couple of times! Love the way your's turned out.
ReplyDeleteYou have 60 lbs. of candlesticks on your table? They look great painted up but I wouldn't be slapping down a heavy turkey on the table or you may just bring the whole thing down! lol ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteWow. Does Annie Sloan paint work on husbands?
ReplyDeleteI just received my copy of Creating The French Look. I am so excited to paint something ( I have 3 different things in mind), but I am out of town the next 2 weekends.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sending me this great book.
Don't you just love ASCP! It just fixes everything. Love the way your candlesticks turned out! ~ Judy

ReplyDeleteSandy
Beautiful! The power of paint. Your table looks like summer :)
ReplyDeleteDee
Wonderful job - the addition of the blue was just the right touch. Also, I love what you did with the shells - I might have to "steal" that one for a beach condo. Hope that is O.K. - lol!!
ReplyDeleteLove how the candlesticks turned out. They were boring before, but not now.
ReplyDeleteThe entire room transformation is perfect. :)
Your candlesticks turned out great. I really like the kuboo chairs in there too.
ReplyDeleteI love the new look. The chairs look great too. You are the queen of change!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely touch! I must say, I adore your yellow chairs!
ReplyDeleteIf an intruder ever shows up at your house, make a run for the candlesticks - and hit him over the head.
ReplyDeleteI have no worries about Bailey messing the shutter finish because I know out will come a can of chalk paint and they will be as good as new.
~Bliss~
You have such a talent for 'seeing' how something will look once you do your magic on it. These are awesome.....
ReplyDeleteJust a thought... ever think of painting your chair rail moulding in a yellow hue? I think it would balance the white wall expanse with the gold frames and the yellow chairs. But either way, it's beautiful! =o)
ReplyDeleteKim they look so much better. Love how the dinning room looks. The yellow chairs add a bit of fun.
ReplyDeleteYou with a paint brush + ASCP = a magical combination! Everything is just lovely! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteLove the table and the new look of the ballasters...and I am in LOVE with your dining room with those wonderful chairs!!!...Beautiful Kim!
ReplyDeleteit looks so gorgeous now! You were right, they just needed a little tweak, and now they are PERFECT!!
ReplyDeletexo-Lisa
