Now don't send the too small for the area rug police out after me. It could be a little bigger, but I really need to use this $350 rug somewhere. It's wool people and wool is not cheap. It can't just be tossed aside and it actually fits the space pretty well.
Do you see another change I made to the room?
I kept looking at the painting on that big wall all by itself and I couldn't take it any longer.
If you are very observant, like I know some of you are, you will notice that I have two different arrangements on the table in these pictures. That is because I shot some of these a couple of days before making the change and then shot some more.
When the vintage bread box arrived I had to move this old tool carrier from the kitchen counter so I placed it back on the table.
I place two vintage mason jars and one farm style milk bottle in the box and filled with the cut hydrangeas.
Hope y'all don't get sick of seeing hydrangeas. I am so excited to have a bush full of blooms this year.
I am loving the changes.
Just playing the shuffling game again. I know I'm not alone.
Have a super duper week!

I think the ironstone is a great addition, it doesn't make the painting seem so alone:) Great choice. How many days do you get out of your cut hydrangeas? I have never had any before:)
ReplyDeleteI actually think the ironstone plates added to the wall, it looks gorgeous and so does the rug! I never get tired of seeing beautiful hydrangeas, just wish I could grow them like that!
ReplyDeleteThe red rug looks great in there. XO, Aimee

Hi Kim, I could never get tired of seeing hydrangeas or your beautiful house. I like the white dishes on the wall because they fill up the space and make the painting look less lonely but are not too busy as they are that creamy white. I needed an unusual size rug (can't remember now but I think it is 16 x 16) so I found wall to wall carpeting that I really liked and just had it bound! It was so much less expensive than a rug, it's wool, and it's the perfect size! Have a nice week. Linda
ReplyDeleteI am in a rug dilemma now, too. I want to move the thick "winter pile" rug out of the family room and maybe put down a sea grass cloth one for the summer months. I have been on the look here and there but haven't found anything yet.
ReplyDeleteIf you go to a carpet outlet and can find something you like they will cut it to size and bind the edges for you for about $1 or so per running foot (not including the charge for the carpet, of course). We have done that several times over the years with odd sized rooms. You can find really beautiful patterned remnants sometimes. xo Diana
I think you do the great room , sun room rug shuffle beautifully, all works out in the end, you describe it all with such joy, its contagious,
ReplyDeleteI just love the pop of red. It looks very fun for summer. Love your hydrangeas too. What a blessing to have so many blooms!

ReplyDeleteI vote yes on the plates! They fill the wall out perfectly. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI like the plates - the painting was too 'alone' for my taste.
ReplyDeleteI always love your table arrangements.
I love seeing your hydrangeas, Kim. I had several blue bushes at my old house and it is a nice treat to see them. I am eager to start cutting some of the pink ones I planted recently. I love the plates on the wall. I think the rug looks fine; I would definitely be looking to use it somewhere, too.
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas, and can't wait for mine to bloom...I'll have them all summer long...the plates really look great next to the painting. Funny how you said you couldn't stand it any longer!! like its torture, that is how it feels when you have the decorating eye...I can totally relate! Rug looks fine~have a nice Monday.
ReplyDeleteYour changes look great. I have the same problem with rug size in our dining room, but I'm sticking with what I have for now.
ReplyDeleteWe're loving our hydrangeas about now, too. I've loved blue hydrangeas since I was a little girl. I used to play bride, and one of the blooms was my bouquet.♥
Love the addition of the plates next to the painting. I must not be very observant in the morning, because I didn't even notice the different tablescapes. :@
ReplyDeleteI so envy your hydrangeas, Kim!! They are just beautiful. I like the rug there!
ReplyDeleteYour veggies are so beautiful!! Looks like gardening is one of y'all's many talents! blessings ~ tanna

Looks fantastic. Love the addition of the plates surrounding the picture. Thanks for sharing.

karianne
I had a string of rug purchases that over the past couple years have had to mysteriously *disappear* because they really didn't work. Now I am rugless and afraid to buy any.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Hi darling, I love all the changes you've made from shopping your home. The plates on the wall are a great finishing touch.. get tired of seeing your beautiful hydrangeas? Never... hugs ~lynne~

Alone...I highly doubt that :) I like the red rug in there....
ReplyDeleteYour new wall arrangement looks great Kim. Also love the rug and I think it's the perfect size. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove how this room has evolved.
xoxo,
Kim
I am always inspired by your shuffling game, Kim. I had to laugh at the 'rug police' and I think the red looks great there. Your hydrangeas are beautiful and such a lovely blue. Ours aren't out yet (mine are a white with green tint.) I would love to have some blue ones so I will have to investigate the possibility.
ReplyDeleteOh and I was going to suggest the same thing as Nana Diana. My sister has had a couple of really nice carpets cut to her needed size and bound.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm a big fan of hanging plates up and the rug adds a great, unexpected pop of color!
ReplyDeleteUh oh.... am I "A"!!!!???
ReplyDelete:)
It looks great and I do not think it could ever be possible to get sick of seeing those blue gorgeous giant hydrangeas!
They looks so perfect they look artificial!
I am so in love with this room. I hope there aren't any more changes as it's PERFECT! could never tire of hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteYour home always looks lovely. Do you know the name of your blue hydrangea bush? I just bought one the other day called Blue Danube and was wondering if it was the same. They are so pretty and my favorite flower.
ReplyDeleteLove the addition of the ironstone. I think we should creat a new dance called the in house shuffle :)
ReplyDeleteJust love your decorating energy...do you ever sit still...the addition of the ironstone plates is a great way to keep the painting company...and you the shuffle Queen...if you find another spot for the rug, you might consider putting floor length chair skirts on the chairs as it may help to soften and fill the space the same way a rug does without worrying about having a perfectly sized rug.
ReplyDeleteJermaine
Kim,
ReplyDeleteLove the changes! And I'll never be sick of hydrangeas.
And I feel you about those expensive wool rugs! I have two biggies from Pottery Barn that no longer go with the colors I envision in my home ... and I'm so torn about what to do with them! I'm at a stalemate.
:)

Everything you do in your house makes me green with envy. Is envy a bad thing? Your breakfast room is one of my favorite things about your house and you've blended everything together beautifully. I love your chandelier, draperies and rug. It looks good it there. It's kind of the pop of color that pulls it all together.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks absolutely beautiful Kim! I think the red is such a great punch of color! :-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Absolutely gorgeous Kim! I love that rug and now that I know it's wool I love it more. It will last forever. Wool rugs are the best.
ReplyDeleteEverything here is fantastic!
Loving the hydrangeas in the jars in the wooden tool caddy. So pretty and I think the white ironstone is a really good choice to brighten the wall, Your instincts were spot on!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday
Kathysue
I love your ironstone; it's a great addition to the painting! I'm a rug shuffler too! Love how you changed your rugs!
ReplyDeleteThe plates make a great addition to your wall -- now you have a whole grouping. I used to move rugs around, but now I make my husband do it -- he's younger and stronger! ;-))
ReplyDeleteI like the rug in there! And I like the addition of the plates on the wall too!
ReplyDeleteNice changes, Kim!
xo-Lisa
Kim0 I know all about rug shuffles! We finally decided that our 6 month old dining room rug was just shedding too much to deal with so we will be doing a big ol square dance with our rugs to get them to work for us. Nothing worse than a baby dropping food on the floor and it gets all linty from the rug:)

I'm totally with you on the rug shuffle. I'm doing the same with mine and I just took mine out of the sunroom, too. Oh, and you could never have too many photos of hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteI love all the changes you have done! The ironstone plates are the perfect company to the picture! I would never get tired of hydrangeas! I'm just doing the same with all the blossoms I'm getting this year!

ReplyDeleteI promise not to send the Rug Police out, you rule breaker you! And I am so thrilled to see hydrangeas anywhere, anytime and I have bushes full too!
ReplyDeleteXO Cindy

ReplyDeleteI love all your pretty changes. Your hydrangeas are beautiful.
