A few weeks ago I shared one of the guestrooms that has a vintage nautical theme to it. I mentioned that I was not loving the weathered look of the armoire that I painted last year.
It was fine for a time, but it just wasn't quite the look I wanted anymore.
Many of y'all had mentioned maybe painting it red. To tell you the truth I had been leaning towards that all along. I just love painted red furniture.
I chose Emperor's Silk. I placed my vintage suitcases that I recently found on top. I am wondering if maybe I should paint the bottom one white and age it or just leave it?
I decided to just let the old color stay in the detailed edges.
It only took one coat of the red which has never happened with regular latex paint in red.
Of course if I wanted a perfect finish it would have taken two coats, but I love some of the old finish pulling through this coat.
I didn't do any distressing and only applied clear wax.
Other changes are taking place in here, too. You may notice one of them. I have another big paint project in here and then it will be finished.......again. wink
It looks great, Kim, and I like the other colour peeking through. The peek of the check curtains looks great, probably a really good choice with the new red armoire. Looking forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous in the red! I just love it :)
ReplyDeleteLove the red color, and the bit of other color in the details.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love this project. Good call not to distress this! Works perfectly with your decor. Please come over and join TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS! What a great addition this would be!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's good just to have a solid color and the armoire looks really beautiful with that red on it.
ReplyDeleteLove this red, Kim. I'll bet it looks great when you take in the whole room, what with your touches of red in other areas.

ReplyDeleteI love red furniture, too. Classic. I especially love what you did with the rope painting on the piece. Super.
ReplyDeleteKim, perfect choice. It looks so vibrant and just comes alive now. We were just introduced to those paints a few weeks ago, as there aren't any dealers in our area. I love their product after seeing it first hand. What's next to paint red? - Tonya

Oh, I do love the red! I think I would have glass cut to fit over the oval panels and spray the back side with mirror spray paint for an aged mirror look. But I'm sure you've got plenty of ideas churning in your brain!
ReplyDeleteYeah what everyone else said, I like the red. My vote on the suitcases is to leave them. I love the authentic look just how they are.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~

ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! What a beautiful representation of the color. The supplier you use should feature this when someone asks about this red. Truely beautiful. I also like that you only used the clear wax.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how quickly our taste can change? Thank goodness it isn't anything a coat or two of paint can't fix :) I'm loving the red.

You're truly talented!
Well red is my favorite and I really like how this turned out. I would leave the suitcases as they are - or paint them both the same color.

ReplyDeleteI recently completed a red and green vintage dressing table and am currently painting a side chair in all red/dark wax and a small bookcase in tri-tone (white/gray/red) and the back and the two shelves are Emperor's Silk.

ReplyDeleteI bet those check curtains look great in that room!
Love that ASCP Emperor's Silk - I've been trying to decide if I should buy it and you have just made up my mind for me. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour armoire is beautiful. You did such a great job! Since it's chalk paint can you write a sweet little message on it? Such as "Make Yourself At Home!" or "Welcome To Our Home!" These are just suggestions that I would do & I didn't know if you had thought of that or not. But again Great Job!
