I know it has been a long hot summer and it is still hot as blazes outside and it isn't exactly the time of year we use a quilt, but I found a nice old quilt on our little getaway a couple of weeks ago that I want to share. You saw some of it in this post as a back drop for an ironstone sugar bowl found on the same trip.
I was immediately drawn to the vivid blue colors of this quilt. It is old and tattered, but that is fine with me.
As I opened the quilt up and looked at it I found many different fabrics used. This one little section has black squares.
Here is some kind of a patch job.
The other side is this pretty pinkish and gold paisley print. Doesn't go with the blue squares at all, but yet it does.
I was thinking about different spots that I can use it. Love it draped on the sofa in the sun room.
May use it here when the weather gets cooler.
The grain sack pillow cover in the middle is from my sponsor Sutton Place Designs. Ann does fabulous work.
I like it on the bed in the nautical guest room, too.
See how the squares on this side are a different color. I love that.
For now it will sit here folded up on top of the other vintage quilt made by Mr. Savvy's mom many many years ago. It is very tattered and worn, too.
Just the way I like them.
So there are several places it will work. Not sure where I will use it.
It may move from here to there like anything else in my house does. lol
Enjoy the weekend and you don't want to miss my guest poster on Friday for the "My Favorite Room" series.
Great quilt. It looks everywhere you put it.
ReplyDeleteLove it in the SR.
D
You got a pretty quilt. And ditto on Sutton Place designs!! I found her links here and last month ordered a ruffled red stripe runner. I love it!! Very summery and fun.
ReplyDeleteHow great is it that the quilt looks perfect in more than one spot! You can just keep moving it around...love the blues!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
I like it on the bed in the nautical guestroom. Nice quilt!
ReplyDeleteKim I think the quilt looks so gorgeous in your sunroom. It looks perfect with all your pretty pillows.
ReplyDeleteKathy
Oh what a delightful quilt and the colors go perfect in your sun room and guest room. You almost need two of them :) Because it looks Great draped on your couch and fits Beautifully on the bed. I actually clicked on the Oatmeal post LOL!! only for it to go nowhere and yes that has happened to me before ( more than once :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it on your sunroom sofa. And, it's nice on the bed too. It blends well with the colors in both rooms and it was a great find at a great price! I'd leave it out now. I wouldn't be able to wait until fall!
ReplyDeletegorgeous colours and just enough vintage faded charm to make it wonderful. I'd be careful about keeping it in direct sunlight though as it may ruin the fabric.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! It looks great in both spaces, but I love it on the bed.
ReplyDeleteKim, it works beautifully in all of your spaces. Very pretty, I love quilts.
ReplyDeleteThat has been a well loved quilt ~ it's beautiful. I love it on your sofa too!
ReplyDeleteKim, the quilt is a wonderful addition to your home. I think it looks fabulous on the guest room bed! Those blues are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI wondered about that missing post! Ha! Your new quilt is very pretty. It looks nice as part of a collection in the guest room too. I really love your new striped pillow too from Ann! She has the prettiest pillows.
ReplyDeleteI love the dash of color it gives draped over your couch. It's beautiful! Where did you get the flowered pillows on either side of the grainsack one Ann made?
ReplyDeleteBrenda
You got such a great deal! I am on the look out for some old quilts but never see nice ones!! I like it in each place you had it. I'm sure you'll be moving it around and displaying it different places as the time goes by.
ReplyDeleteKim, there is noting like the softness of an old cotton quilt. I am with you, it does not bother me when they are a bit tattered. I look at that as a sign of lovingly worn. It looks great in all the places you put it. Maybe when it gets cooler it will be easier to figure out what area you would want to cozy up a bit. Happy weekend,
ReplyDeleteKathysue
Oh it really is a great quilt. Love it in the bedroom and the sunroom. Looks fabulous in both places. Great find. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find. It looks good everywhere. Just the right colors.
ReplyDeleteYou can look at the logo for my blog and tell that I'm also a huge fan of Blue and White. So crisp and nautical.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love the look of quilts and the soft, coziness they provide! You really did get a great deal with that one! I think it looks good is both rooms.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie
I like the quilt in the bedroom with the other blues, but it does look good in the sun room on the couch too! ...I am always afraid that one day I will publish a post by accident!
ReplyDeleteKim, this is a lovely find. Old quilts have soul! I like it on the back of the sofa and in the nautical room. Can't miss with this one. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteBreathe taking...beautiful quilts, don't you hate that when it could go beautifully in several spots.*SIGH* No matter where it is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim - I love that quilt and it goes with so many different areas of your house. I love how it looks in your sun room (love how you decorated that room too) - I could just cuddle up and read some shelter mags on that sofa!!! Great job and great find.
ReplyDeleteLinda
So pretty, Kim. There's just something about old quilts!
ReplyDeleteKim, I love your lovingly used quilt in your sunroom along with Ann's grain sack pillow! It's holy cow gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have hit the publish button too. The quilt is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt Kim....I have several up in my attic that I need to get down and do something with!
ReplyDeleteOh! I love it in the guest bedroom. It looks amazing! Thanks for the inspiration (as usual)!

karianne
Kim , I love that quilt ...it looks great every where you placed it. Great find!
ReplyDeleteFrancine
Your quilt looks so comfy every place you've tried it.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Imlove the tattered and worn quilts because it means that someone LOVED it and USED it and got great enjoyment from it. I thought of the quest room as soon as I saw it and it looks great in the sunroom too. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, Kim, and a great price. You and I are both thinking quilts so it must be time. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing says comfort like a beautiful quilt. Love the one you found and it looks great everywhere you put it. Imagine that!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmie! I love your olden quilt and it looks wonderful over the back of your sofa.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Beautiful old quilt - isn't it great that it can go in a number of places! I have several from my grandmother and my MIL. I'll have to get them out! Linda (BTW, I love the punch of blue in the sunroom with the quilt on the back of the sofa!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt, Kim! I like them soft and tattered, too! The blue is so pretty...I'm finding myself attracted to it again in the house! You got a great price on it, too!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt, Kim. It looks beautiful in the sunroom or the guest room. It's nice that you will be able to move it into a couple of different rooms, if the mood strikes.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful quilt Kim! I agree with everyone else, it will look beautiful wherever you decide to put it. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Gail
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt. All my quilts were made by my grandmother or great grandmother and are similar to the one made by Mr. Savvy's mother in that they didn't purchase fabrics to make quilts; they used clothing that was worn or outgrown. I love every single one of them.
ReplyDeleteGreat find. My dream is to make one of these someday....
ReplyDeleteHi, Kim, I like it best in the sunroom but I must echo everyone and say it looks great anywhere. I have an old blue & white quilt that I hand quilted myself. It's one of my favorites. I love Ann's pillows too, she does beautiful work. Thanks for the always entertaining posts. I always look forward to seeing pictures of your home!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, and my favorite place was also the sun room, it made the sofa come alive. I have several old ones, and love each and every one of them.
ReplyDeleteSandy
Beautiful quilt Kim! I can hardly stand it how cute it looks in your sunroom. Oh my gosh, perfection! You are so talented Kim...I learn and am inspired everytime I visit! XO, Aimee
ReplyDeleteKim, One of my quilts has a backing similar to yours and it doesn't match the quilt top either! Pretty quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove the deep blue colors. Sofa definitely.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it in the sunroom on the couch with all your gorgeous pillows!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt... There is something about them so comforting. Cindy
ReplyDeleteKim I really like it on the back of your sofa and on the bed in your guest room!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a quilt, they make a house a home !
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful in each spot! I know you will make it perfect in a different place for each season!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage quilts, too, and your newest find is a beauty! I have learned to keep my quilts away from our old windows (no uv coating) because they will fade and deteriorate rather quickly. Something to keep in mind for all the old home owners out there.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great find! I love it on the back of your sofa and on the bed! Don't you just love when you find something that can work multiple places?
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is the perfect quilt. I love the fact that it is tattered and worn and has different fabrics. It is a tribute to a woman who recycled her clothes and linens into a warm quilt for her family. What could be better?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
I have a quilt that looks just like that. My Great Grandmother made it. I keep it in my chest because it has more wear and holes. I get it out every now and then. I also have 2 beautiful quilts from my Mother-in-law. I can use them. I love the look and comfort of a quilt. I feel the love that goes into it.
ReplyDeleteperfect! I love a quilt and that one is just perfect. It looks great in that sweet nautical/lab dog bedroom (and those lab dogs are wonderful)
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are really nice. I've been using my iphone lately as something is up with my camera and it just isn't the same...
It looks fabulous in both spots! I would only worry about fading on the back of the couch, so maybe rotate it every week? I have a family quilt made by my great grandmother that sits in a box cause I am afraid to use/display it. Maybe when the bonus space is finished it can go in there?
ReplyDeleteKim...gorgeous quilt..I am sure that we will see it in that most perfect of places that you will choose....actually it looks great in all those places and knowing you, we will see it displayed so beautifully in many locations!
ReplyDeleteGreat find with an awesome price!!
Love it either place....equally as cute :) Maybe you need to find another just like it ~ lol!!
ReplyDeleteThat room just looks so awesome now. I loved it before, but I love it even better now with the lighter, airier colors and touches. I'm planning to do that slowly here at This Old House.. lighten up the decor some.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI know a great place to put that quilt, in my home,
LOL. I love it and it looks great in your sun room. I am going garage saling to day, hope to find a great treasure like that.
I have long loved the look of folded quilts stacked together. I have a few scattered throughout my house that should be together. I'll add it to my to do list.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Now, this is a beautiful quilt! It looks great in both spots and I really like it on the bed, with all that layering going on!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Love that old and tattered (read: well-loved) quilt. It looks right at home in your beautiful home!
ReplyDelete:)
Linda
this is a real beauty, and it looks like it's in wonderful shape. Love it on the back of the sofa! but wow, even the back is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI have many old quilts sitting in storage. You might have inspired me to get them out and start using them. It is a toss up between preserving them and enjoying them...
ReplyDeleteI love it everywhere but I think my fav spot is on the guest bed! I love that room!!!!!
ReplyDeletexxo
Such a pretty quilt!
ReplyDeleteI think you could toss that vintage quilt anywhere and it would look beautiful and improve the appearance of any room.

ReplyDeleteRachel
Very pretty! The lady that lived across the street from us my entire life gave me a quilt that she'd made a few years ago. I've been trying to figure out how I want to display it. I'm thinking of changing out the bedding in my guest room & using it there.
