Hi Savvy Friends! I am Aimee Lane from it's overflowing and I am very excited to be a part of Kim's "My Favorite Room" series. Savvy Southern Style has been one of my favorite blogs for a long time. It's such a treat to guest post here....a blog known for amazing inspiration and consistent quality!
And here's the dreary kitchen before we tore out a wall, added trim, painted, and updated: appliances, cabinet pulls, and light fixtures!
My favorite part of our update is the extra cabinet with a pull out trash can that my hubby, aka my stud built for me. He built it extra deep for me so I can keep almost all of my appliances in this space.
The entire process took us a few of months. It was totally worth our blood, sweat, and tears.
As soon as I saw the kitchen brighten with paint, I ordered fabric from an online store to sew my corner window curtains. I selected two complimentary fabrics. The top third has a white background with tiny yellow polka dots. The bottom portion is about eight inches long and I used a Corn Yellow White Damask. I love how much light the fabric allows into the room, which floods into the rest of the house.
I usually keep a flower arrangement or potted plant on my raised corner shelf. As much as I love tulips, they've been replaced for Fall. I'll show you my Fallscape kitchen display soon.
I really like our graniteÉafter narrowing my selection down to white granites. White River Granite quickly became my favorite. It has a lot of movement which I think looks great. I love the white granite paired with white subway tiles. Both are airy, bright, and completely timeless, which is totally in contrast to my precious kitchen.
I showed you where I keep almost all of my appliances, all but our coffee maker. I'm not a coffee drinker (crazy, I know), but this machine also brews a delicious cup of tea! So good!
I'd love to have you over for a visit at It's Overflowing. I've labeled all of our kitchen projects and linked the coordinating numbers to help you navigate. And if a kitchen remodel isn't your thing, you can find crafts, photography tutorials, tips, decor inspiration, recipes, and other Home DIY Projects, too.
I consider any Savvy Friend a friend of mine! You're welcome anytime...
XO, Aimee Lane

This is amazingly beautiful! You guys did a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I just bought our second home (just signed papers last night - yeah!!) and it has a pretty dated country style kitchen. He was thinking it may need a gut job in the future, but I think the bones of it and layout are great and can be revised. I am sending him a link to this post right this second so he can see exactly what can be done :)
I love this kitchen and the fact that they did a lot themselves without spending a gazillion amount of dollars! So bright and airy. Love the yellow curtains. I really appreciate the beauty in the simplicity!

Kim, Aimee's kitchen is lovely. I may have a teeny bit of envy for her countertops. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHer kitchen is totally stunning. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI see you have 0 Feedcount too. I have no idea what happened. When they switched to the new interface, mine all disappeared. Weird.
Hugs, Marty

Beautiful kitchen Aimee...those old cabinets of yours remind me of my parent's home in Pa. BEFORE the 1876 renovation!!!LOL. The kitchen is so bright and cheery...just right for a room you spend so much time in.
ReplyDeleteRLOL...I just realized I had a typo on the year of my parent's renovation...I am really not that old!!! The renovation was in 1976!!! Hey but maybe it gave you a chuckle!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous kitchen remodel! I love the white, grey and yellow color scheme, but, you didn't want to keep the pink oven? LOL! As much as I love pink, some things just have to go, right? LOL Congrats on such a successful project! I'm headed to your blog to see what else you've been up to! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteThat's such a beautiful makeover, Aimee! You kept the feeling of a country kitchen but with all the modern touches and a clean, crisp palette. (Love the touches of bright yellow!) I look forward to visiting your blog. Take care!
