Fall is definitely in the air throughout blog land and here in Georgia, too. We have been very spoiled this week with glorious cooler weather and much lower humidity. This kind of weather just adds a little spring to my step. I added the same basket I used last year to the front door, but with a change and different filler. I shared a peek at this on my facebook page a couple of days ago so be sure and join there for earlier peeks.
This is the time of year when my front door color works well with the colors of the season.
I don't have pumpkins and things out yet just a few golden leaves, dried pods, pinecones, and other fall filler. Pumpkins will come later sitting here and there on and around the porch.
This is how the basket started out. It is the same one I used last year.
The paints came out. First I did a coat of Shutter Gray Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint and it just wasn't the right look so next was a coat of Pure White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I also brushed it over the welcome tag. Then dark wax was brushed over the basket.
Then I went over the WELCOME tag with black and then gold Gilders Paste. Such a quick an easy way to update this plain brown basket.
Summer plants are still thriving right now, but soon pumpkins will replace them. Cornstalks may be used too since we grew our own this year. Might as well recycle them.
amazing!!! I have a glass 'screen' door to contend w/ when it comes to my front door decor. May just have to find a way to hang something on 'it' this season. I love what you've done here - all of it!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful Kim. Adding the paint is a great idea. Your seasonal plants are beautiful. Ours are finally coming back and the yard is nice and green again. So happy we finally got some rain!:-)
ReplyDeleteI bought another of those baskets last year. When I did the Fall arrangement for the inside french door I used the new basket and left that arrangement put together at the end of the season. Glad I did now, it is so elaborate I wouldn't like to have to replicate it this Fall. The original basket I change out for the other seasons using less stuff.
Love the basket! It looks awesome against your door.
ReplyDeleteKim your front looks very inviting. Those baskets hard to come by. Linda
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! The "new basket" looks great surrounded by all those earthy tones!

ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I have only started to gather some things/ideas for my front door. Now that the weather has suddenly turned cooler, I feel the pressure to get moving!

I think the basket looks great. I have several old baskets around here that could be revived with painting.
ReplyDeleteyour front door arrangement is beautiful kim! i have that same basket hanging on my french doors in the sunroom but it's still in the original "brown" color...i had thought about painting it but still loving the natural tone of it. but yours looks really good painted out white...i'll have to remember that!

ReplyDeleteA lovely way to greet guests and family right there at the front door!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Oh, that looks so good, Kim! I have a similar basket hanging on my front door, but it doesn't look quite as pretty as yours since it's empty right now! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Kim! Did you paint your front door? If so I must h ave missed that post. Everything looks ready for fall.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Seed pods are my favorite for fall floral arrangements! They add a lovely color and texture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to welcome your guests, Kim!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim. I cant believe it is already fall.

I just picked up a box of pods to use in my decorating this fall/christmas. Love how they look in your basket. Bring me some corn husks. No corn here!!
ReplyDeleteThe white basket really pops against your door color, great choice to give it a paint job. Beautifully done:)
ReplyDeleteLovely wreath! Fall is my favorite season and it never lasts long enough.
ReplyDeleteYour basket is really pretty! I wasn't going to buy pumpkins yet either but they were $3 at Aldi this morning so I grabbed two. They are huge! If you have Aldi it's definitely worth going.
ReplyDeleteYour basket arrangement looks beautiful, Kim! This is just such a great time of the year.
ReplyDeleteLovely basket Kim!
ReplyDeleteIt made me remember the interesting post from Nancy's Daily Dish about the story of the artillery baskets used during the wars. Is yours one of that kind? I have never seen one here.
Besos! Silvina
Beautiful Kim!!!! I feel the same, trying to transition into fall but my plants are still doing good too. Going to get some pumpkins tomorrow, trying to find some white one:).Happy almost fall, Jen
ReplyDeleteKim, This is so pretty. I love it! The white basket is so fresh and the arrangement is perfect!
ReplyDeleteXo, Aimee
I love all the real looking elements in your fall basket! The wash of paint made the basket really pop on your door! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely, Kim, and perfect for fall! I love what you did with the basket...and I'm a fan of lotus pods!
ReplyDeleteLove all those gorgeous muted leaves and garden elements stashed in that perfect door basket. The paint technique is just wonderful for Fall!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! You are exactly right, the colors of the leaves totally coordinate with your front door. I love look of this rather than a wreath. Now I'm already planning for next year. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAnother warm and welcoming Fall welcome from you! The chair is a fun accent, and your fern is ha-uge. And, the added paint to your basket looks great. We put cornstalks by our entry one year, but too many little lizards (gekkos, whatever you all call them down there) would like to hide in them and scare the "youknowwhat" out of me when I'd sweep our entry. Sooo, no more. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour basket looks great, Kim. I loved the original color, and the new paint treatment looks even better. Decor items that can be freshened up a bit are so much better than having to start all over. Love the dried florals, too.
ReplyDeletePinned on my wreath board.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Kim,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks wonderful. Love the basket.
Cynthia
