I am thrilled to be here at Kim's sharing my favorite room in our home.
As much as we love to go out and about on little adventures there is something so special about being home. Our home is our refuge, a place where memories are being made, love is a constant and our children feel safe. The heart of our home is the great room, where we spend most of our time. Playing games, watching movies, enjoying friends and family, entertaining. Our home is a place where the door is open, people feel welcome I wouldn't have it any other way.
When we originally purchased our home 12 years ago it had a formal dinning room, formal living and a separate family room. For many people this works, but as our family grew the layout just wasn't working. There would be one simple fix, tear the wall down! We moved out for a month and watched our house go through a huge transformation.
Here is the original fireplace and the wall that was torn down. Our fireplace was flipped from the corner of the room to the center.

Imagine the wall going directly across the room about where the fireplace is in the pictures below.
Here is the before of the family room where the sofa used to sit.

Now it has two chairs and a table where we can work on homework or just relax.
I know a open floor plan is not for everyone but for us it works and it has become my favorite room in our house, a little haven. Our home now reflects the essence of who we are as a family.
Thank you again for having me Kim, hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Thanks so much Kristin for sharing your wonderful favorite room.

Have a super weekend!
I love Kristin's open floor plan. If I could build my house again I'd leave a wall out between the family room and kitchen to open it up more. Her stone fireplace is gorgeous and she has such a comfortable, elegant sense of style. Thanks for sharing.

I've always loved Kristin's open living space. Classic, clean and inviting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty room/rooms! I don't have an open plan concept and I don't mind that, but they are great for entertaining. That's the one time that I wish I had it. It certainly makes things feel more open. Love the stone on the fireplace in the family room area too.
ReplyDeleteKristen, What a beautiful and spacious living space. You were so right to open it up. I am all about knocking down walls and adding lots of windows! Light and space... and your room has it and lots of it. Gorgeous and relaxed decor too. I really like your wall art going up the stair. Just a great family/living space. And lots of inspiration too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim! This is my very favorite series!!! Another beauty!
