My dream bathroom would have a free standing tub in it with beadboard on the walls around it like the one above, but since the mister says no to ripping out the monster tub and surround I came up with another idea that was really quite easy.
Yes, the nineties called and wants the faux dark green marble back. This is what I am sick of.
What was I thinking when we built this house? All those swirls don't resemble marble at all. Seriously!
Oh, yea, this was in style back then.
Oh, yea, this was in style back then.
So one day it came to me how easy this would be to fix for very little money and Mr. Savvy agreed and got right on it. I went and picked up another roll of beadboard wallpaper and some paste and he had this done in less than two hours (would have been quicker if he would quit stopping to look at the television). Then it was my turn to do the painting. That was quickly done, too.
This looks so much better now and made the bathroom feel bigger. This makes it a little easier to live with the ginormous tub.
Of course this change led to another small change in here that I will share soon.
Cost of this project: $30.00
Makes me happier.....priceless!
Another project marked off the list.
I have a photographer coming on Wednesday to shoot my house for a houzz.com home tour so I am glad to be getting some things done. I'm in panic mode now.
Happy Sunday Kim, Oh girl I love your easy fix. I love bead board and would love to have some in our house.Great job-can't wait to see what else you do.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
That's a great solution. Don't you love to make those victory laps?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the photo shoot!!!
Looks great Kim! I thought about doing this to out tub but we use it everyday so I was afraid the wallpaper would not hold up to the constant wear and tear of water splashing on it. I truly love it though.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT PANIC:):) The house will photograph BEAUTIFULLY! How could it not???? And, BTW, congratulations on the photoshoot!!! The tub looks SO much better, great idea!!! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI have some hunter green faux marble in my master bath too! I have been thinking of doing the same thing! My whole bath is the same 12x12 tiles....floor, tub surround and shower stall...YIKES! I'm unsure how this would look in my bath but it would be a lot cheaper than demoing the whole bath!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you on Houzz!
That was a smart quick fix Kim and so effective too! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful,Kim! I can't wait to hear more about the photo shoot. xx, Sherry
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a difference it makes! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteKathysue
Look's great. Very smart.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim! Good idea, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Kim that made a huge difference! Love it.
ReplyDeleteKim, this makes a huge difference. Great idea! Our master has a huge walk-in shower and no tub. My dream bath would be one much like your inspiration photo. Just a dream, won't happen in this house.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the photo shoot. What an honor!
Great idea, Kim! It actually makes the top not look green now to me! I understand as both of our houses were built during the same time period. I had the green swirl double sink that I just painted. I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteYour house will photograph wonderful but I know you will be a nervous wreck until it is done! Good luck!
It looks great, too, Kim. What an easy change-little price-big impact. You know those little green tiles you have in the floor? Well, I had some set like that and they were a hideous gold color. I used a good quality nail polish (deep rose because that was "my color" at that time). I painted those little tiles and then put a clear coat of nail polish over them and they held up for years. I washed them really good with TSP and a Scotch brite pad first and rinsed them really well and made sure they were dry. It worked great. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, That looks great. It couldn't have come at a better for me as I was planning on using beadboard for my little kitchen re-do. Did you need to order the paper at HD or can you get it at a wallpaper store? Are there even any wallpaper stores left? Thanks for the nudge I needed to get going.
ReplyDeleteRita
That is such a clever idea Kim! It looks like it has always been that way. Good luck with your photo shoot it sounds like fun but I would be a nervous wreck too!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic. What a great fix.
ReplyDeleteIngenious. It's amazing what a difference that makes! I am dying for that top image!
ReplyDeleteOK, you just sent me on the "going to use beadboard wallpaper train" for my bathroom. I'll be headed to Lowes in the morning. Thanks for the great inspiration Kim.
ReplyDeletegreat idea. did the paper go right over the tub or did you put something over it first?
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous and I thought it was blue lol really inexpensive way to update you bath. Just Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThat free standing tub is also in my dreams! That green monster doesn't look that big any more! Ingenious idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat easy solution. Looks good, Kim.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Congratulations on your feature at Houzz! Wow what a easy and beautiful transformation!I really love that Kim!I have never wall papered before. How easy is it for someone like me who has never done that before?Any tips?Did you use paste or is it already self pasted?
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of using that in my kitchen.Remember when you suggested that a while back?
xx

ReplyDeleteThis is a great makeover! Congrats on the photo shoot. Your house will look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSherry
What a great idea and it looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem...peach colored everything in the "hers" bath (including cabinetry). Looks so dated to me. Seriously. Can peach be dated or is it me? Your fix is amazing, but we live in a California contemporary house in Houston, lots lots lots of glass, so beadboard won't work. "He" thinks it's perfectly alright, you know?
ReplyDeleteGreat solution! It looks wonderful Kim! My house was built in 1998 and I have many of those "What was I thinking" moments! (I also have a huge tub!) Congrats on the houzz photos - how exciting!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
Great solution, Kim! I can't get over how much that paper looks like real beadboard ~ I thought that is what it was until I read further.
ReplyDeleteWow Kim, your tub looks great! I love the beadboard wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteThe tub looks great and it brought it into current decor style:)
ReplyDeleteAmazing difference, Kim! Congrats on your Houzz feature. Your home will photograph beautifully!!
ReplyDeleteKim, that is awesome! I love projects like this! It really looks great! Can't wait to see the Houzz tour!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great solution and adds the lightness that you want too. It looks great with your newly painted vanity too. Your home will look lovely for the photo shoot, well until they start moving stuff around for the equipment I imagine. Looking forward to seeing the tour when the time is right.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, actually.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what your house tour looks like when finished, you have the prettiest house!
I totally forgot they made bead board wallpaper!!!!! I am so borrowing this idea! Not for a bath, but something else I have in mind. OOOh thank you thank you! Your bath looks truly transformed! I love it!!
ReplyDelete♥Linsey
What a great idea! A fairly easy project that has such impact! Your tub looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic quick fix-looks wonderful and yes I am borrowing this idea also ;-)
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to BREATHE while your getting set for the photo shoot...just
sayin'
HMM! Who would have known that you could wallpaper over stone....
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing!!
WOW! I cannot believe how big of a difference that made! Bravo!!
ReplyDeleteI have the SAME dilemma, Kim! Bohemoth garden tub I can't stand and am longing to rip out for a free standing tub. Mine is in a curved enclosure though, so not sure how the wallpaper would look. Yours looks amazing!!
ReplyDeletexo Heidi
First, clever solution to your bathtub! Second, I didn't know Houzz came to do photo shoots but congratulations! I love that site. Your home is perfect for it. As you're panicking, just keep telling yourself it will soon be over. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation Kim. It looks great and I can't wait to see the tour.
ReplyDeletePresto change-o ... pulled another one out of your bag of tricks. Nice update!
ReplyDeleteAnother great idea Kim and wonderful transformation, and congrats on the upcoming shoot! No need to panic, your house is beautiful and it will make the photographer's job easy!

ReplyDeleteWallpaper are you kidding? That's amazing!!! Love it! Good luck with the photographer, but you don't need it! Your house always looks camera ready!
ReplyDeleteWonderful change! Great idea...simple and inexpensive! The photo shoot will be SO exciting!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty smart cover up, darn clever and it looks great. And if it makes you feel more prepared, if Houzz called me I'd have to tell them not to come!
ReplyDeleteBliss
Great Job, Kim! I always love "making do" projects.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Ginger
What a fabulous and beautiful idea. Oh the things we will do to fix our "90s" messes. I have them too. I wonder if I can use that bead board paper on oak cabinets that my husband won't let me change. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and my kind of fix - easy and inexpensive! Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did to the tub! What a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteTerry
The tub surround is awesome!!!...What a great transformation for $30...and there is nothing like marking off another project off your list that makes you truly happy...Seriously!!! :) You and Mr. Savvy did a great job...and such a great idea Kim!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the houzz feature, woo-hoo! I love what you did with the tub- the beadboard wallpaper really brightens it up.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea Kim!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you had the mister helping. YAY!!!!!
I hope the photo shoot went well and that you had a nice glass of wine while soaking in the tub while candles lit up the bathroom once it was all over.
Pam
Très fascinant d'admirer tout ce changement...
ReplyDeleteGros bisous
Congrats on the photo shoot, I know I am late with this but had some things going on will post soon about them. The bathroom looks great and what a good idea.

ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteWhat a quick fix and it looks gorgeous! All I see now is that gorgeous tub filler! Very nice!
Have fun at the photo shoot, it is going to be a great experience. Congratulations!
All the Best,
Christine
Great idea for this quick fix.
ReplyDeleteTraci
Oh my goodness Kim, what a fantastic idea, and the result is AMAZING! We have one of those tubs too, with a surround, but not the marble. It's got cabinets around it. Maybe I'll paint them a lighter color. Love how yours turned out! You can't beat that bead board wallpaper. I used some in my laundry room and couldn't be happier with the look.
