When I shared the change to the ginormous tub in the master bath I told you there had been another small change, too. You know how one thing leads to another. It is the ripple or domino effect. It always seems to happen around here.
After adding all this white to the side of the tub it made the gray color in the back of the hutch look off so......
I painted over the shutter gray milk paint in the back of the hutch with white to brighten up the hutch and have it flow better with the tub.
This shows how it brightened it up adding the white.
Of course after the paint was dry and it was time to put things back and they got changed up a bit.
I love the added texture with the sea fans. I like using items from the ocean in here. The ocean is very calming to me. I could use a trip to the beach.
Vintage linens and French soap sit in a vintage ironstone chamber pot. I bought this pot way before I even knew what ironstone was. Glad I kept it all these years. I think I bought it in the late 70's.
I added our grandchildren's pictures in here.
For any new readers this hutch has been through many changes over the years. This was Mr. Savvy's late mother's and it has to stay in our home so I am glad that we can use it in here for extra storage. His mother passed away when he was fifteen and this is the one piece he was able to keep and I am honored to have this piece she loved in our home.
If you need extra storage in your bathroom add a piece of furniture like this if you have room. Thank goodness we do since we forgot to add a linen closet when we built the house. Oops!
Be sure and come back tomorrow for my guest poster's favorite room.
Hutch paint colors:
Luckett's green Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint over layers of other colors.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White on back and shelves
Miss Mustard Seed Wax to seal it.

Just gorgeous Kim! Love this piece in your bathroom.
ReplyDeleteThe hutch makeover looks great! I love a piece of furniture in a bathroom. It instantly cozies up what could be a sterile space. Love how you accessorized it too. I bet that pot you bought a long time ago is a chamber pot. Which is perfect for a bathroom....LOL!
ReplyDeleteKim, I love the hutch and the way it looks in your bath.
ReplyDeleteThe white in the back of the hutch is perfect Kim. I love pieces of furniture in the bath. When we remodel the master bath in the house we just moved into, I hope to put one of my hutches in there. Fingers crossed that it will fit. That project is down the road a little though.
ReplyDeleteSo charming!
ReplyDeleteI love this little cabinet. I copied you and took the doors off of the one my mom gave me that's similar. It's getting a paint job this week too! So envious of your spacious bathroom :)
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the domino effect! I love the cabinet color and the way you displayed everything!

Beautiful changes Kim! You are so lucky to have a the room in your master bath for that piece. Our master is really small no room for any extra storage.I hope to change that someday.

you have such a talent for vignettes and styling! you make it seem effortless, but I know its not. I'm working on some styling in my newly redecorated laundry room and I'm stumped lol
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful piece and wonderful that it's a family heirloom!
ReplyDeletewish we had room for such a wonderful piece in our bath. I'd much rather have a great hutch than a standard built in cabinet. Love how you have it displayed!
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect Kim- love the color and how you have everything displayed.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteQuestion, why the Miss Mustard Seed wax over ASCP? Is it better? Just wondering....
I am in the process of painting the backs of our bookcases...French Linen....it is amazing how something that seems so "trivial" can make such a difference! (take a look at my blog, http://wildoakdesigns.blogspot.com)

Painting it white made all your pretty accessories pop!
ReplyDeleteJust picked up a hutch at Salvation Army yesterday for the bathroom... and it's too big! :(
ReplyDeleteYes, the white certainly makes it pop more Kim. Good call!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had room for a piece like this! The white is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe hutch looks wonderful with the white items added, so much more fresh and crisp...I roll bunches of white towels and everyone always comments on such a small thing always makes for the spa look
ReplyDeleteI really love that hutch in your bathroom. The best part is the history attached to it. That was really young for Mr.S to lose his Mom-what a great piece to remember her with-and it serves perfectly seeing as you have NO linen closet in the bathroom!;>) Oooops- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful heirloom piece to use-bathroom is looking just great.
ReplyDeleteWow what a difference that made, love the way it pops now! You styled it perfectly too, love it.
ReplyDeletethat is a very charming hutch
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, Kim...and it's wonderful to have a special family piece like that!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! What a beautiful job on a wonderfully practical piece for the bathroom! If only one day I'll have one large enough to fit a hutch such as this! Great job.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie

ReplyDeleteI love that ripple effect... and your new bathroom touches. So nice to have something that belonged to a loved one. The white really does make a big difference. Beautiful grandbabies, Kim!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how such a little change make something look so much better...lucky you to have a bath that is large enough to accommodate your lovely piece!
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous and the surround on the tub is totally my favorite. Hugs, Marty

ReplyDeleteSusan
I really like the white in the back of your hutch, Kim. It really brightens up the whole piece and makes all your displays show off nicely.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Yes, the white interior is a much cleaner look to complement the white wall covering, Kim. The hutch is such a nice fit for this room. Maybe it was a good thing that youmforgotmthe linen closet! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet about the hutch...love that :)
ReplyDeleteAlso love how you're using it and how you've styled it...looks fantastic!
So pretty! Yes, one thing does lead to another, sometimes I hesitate to make a change because I know that's true! However, I do love to make changes, even if it's rearranging the furniture, it makes the room feel brand new.
ReplyDeleteJenna
Love it. After looking for a few seconds I realized a hutch in a bathroom is a fantastic idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

Kim,
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that your family piece is getting continued use in your bathroom. Painting the inside white really does make all the decorative items stand out. Makes me want to do the same to a hutch that I have.
This is a fantastic piece and I love the fact that it is from family. The change in the paint does brighten the piece, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
You crack me up Kim. Love the piece, and I agree, the white does make a nice difference. And if you change your mind, or your bathroom (which you will eventually) you can always paint over it again, right? :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
The ripple effect goes on here too, especially since this is such a new space. I love that hutch in your bathroom and the white really brightens it up alot! Your grands are beautiful too!!!! I wish we had room for something like this, out=r bathroom is TINY:( XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteGood call, Kim. You're right about the white looking whiter now. And of I course I love your styling of the hutch. I'd love to be able to have a piece like this in my bathroom.
ReplyDeleteI love the white! I'm getting the itch to start some painting projects around here!
ReplyDeleteI like the white in the back of the hutch better. What a nice piece for your husband to have of his mother's.
ReplyDeleteI love how the smallest changes can really make the biggest difference. Love the white!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Kim!
It's just gorgeous, Kim! DD2 just remodeled her MBath and although she also reclaimed space from the replacement of an enormous tub, she doesn't have room for a hutch or cabinet.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll come see My Daughter's Master Bath Redo - #83 at Met Monday.

Kim,
ReplyDeleteI adore how you made a family heirloom work within your home...I did the same thing in my post this week!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Fondly,
Pat
P.S. Visiting from Susan's MM!!!
Kim,
ReplyDeleteWhen the ripple effect happens around my house I just ride the wave or else I get caight up in the undertow. A matter of fact my family encourages me to ride the wave cause they don't want to get caught in the undertow either! Hehehe :)
