When I shared this post about some super buys from Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn I told you I didn't show you everything. I was saving this new duvet for when it was actually in the room, but I bought it in January and was not quite ready to update for spring and summer yet.
When I found this duvet, at a steal, I was just going to change out the winter bedding and be done, but noooooo.
After removing the dark red bedding and adding the new duvet I realized some of the accessories were just not going to cut it. See the white lamp? Well, it was yellow and you can see the before here.
I just painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old White and love how it turned out.
Then this bird lamp also got a coat of Old White to tone down the shiny white latex paint I had used on it previously.
Of course if the duvet gets changed then so do the other pillows. I did keep the white quilted PB shams, but then added the striped ones in the back. I purchased those last year from One Kings Lane to use in the master, but they didn't work in there. So I am glad they now look perfect with the new bedding in here.
The red ticking stripe bed skirt was replaced with this tan and white one that was also stored away.
Then I thought plates! Let's hang some old ironstone plates above the bed.
The green checked drapes from Country Curtains were already in here, but.....
......I decided to add white ball trim to them. I just hot glued it on.
And then if all that wasn't enough there was the other side of the room to tackle. The mirror was replaced with this bunny picture that I have had for years. The old lamp base from Target, that was in the other guest room at one time, got a Pottery Barn lampshade added.
I added the vintage potting shed sign above the bunnies. It hung in the sunroom for years when the walls were green. I think the two work well together. This frame was also painted with Old White.
Vignette at the other end of the dresser.
I purchased two vintage bird prints from ebay and framed them with frames from Hobby Lobby, at half off, to add some art to the wall by the closet.
The colors work well with the duvet.
After adding the new duvet and making all the changes it ended up with a garden theme in here. I don't purposely try to theme a room. It just happens. I think in guestrooms it's okay to have fun.
Cost of this makeover: $49 for the duvet and $20 for the frames.
Have a fabulous day and be sure and return tomorrow for another guest poster's favorite room.

ReplyDeleteLuv how one thing just leads to another :-) I can never understand people who live with the same thing... day after day.. year after year. Nothing changes. With me it's constant.... I tweak, move refresh, change. Luv it!
ReplyDeleteThe duvet is darling... I am quite taken with the painted bird lamp!
Happy Thursday!
Hugs, Gee

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful comforter! I can tell that it really set the tone for the rest of the room. The gingham curtains are such a nice accent with that bedding. Your guests will feel so pampered sleeping in this room.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be on a six-day bicycle trip in your neck of the woods next week. We start in Athens and then cycle to Rockport, Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Madison and end up back in Athens. We'll be at a restaurant on the 79th floor of a building in Atlanta one night. It will be fun to go back. My blog partner/daughter graduated from UGA and lived in Atlanta two years.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and inspiring Guest Room.
I love beautifully dressed beds. I see so many bedroom make overs on the web and often it seems the bed isn't made nicely. I don't mean it has to be made with high end linens, mine isn't. I wonder if many actually aren't sure how to make beds look great like you do, Kim. What about doing a post on all the layering you do on your beds? Your beds always look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I would really feel at home in your garden room! That duvet is gorgeous along with every other detail including the pom pom trim!
ReplyDeleteKim I love all of the changes and the wall color is so restful, love it,
