The nautical has got to go!!
2-14-10
I had you didn't I? No, I'm not going anywhere, but the nautical stuff in the guestroom has left the room. Let's take a stroll down memory lane.
Of course this room had its fair share of changes while still staying with the nautical theme. The above photo was after I actually sewed some red ticking to the bottom of a pair of navy panels and added rope trim. I thought that was quite brilliant if I do say so.
Then in June of 2011 I replaced the framed vintage swimsuit over the bed with Mr. Savvy's old naval uniform and moved the framed swimsuit to the other side of the room.
Also in June this room was not safe anymore from my painting problem. I added a weathered finish to this lamp and that was only the beginning.
Cause apparently the lamp wasn't enough. I had to weather the armoire, too.
Then a year later I decided red would be better.
And lastly the cherry bed got painted white and distressed.
Then the new look with the bed painted white and the red checked drapes replacing the old drapes was revealed in July 2012.
It was fun decorating the room for Christmas.
and just a few more photos.......
This pillow is actually what started the whole nautical themed room after I ordered it because it was so cute.
I had lots of fabulous pillows in here.
Here is when I had red drapes in here.
A vintage quilt was added for fun.
So glad the red checked drapes worked in here after taking them out of the breakfast room.
So farewell nautical guest room. Farewell.
Another reveal coming soon!
Kim,
ReplyDeleteIt will be treat to see what your transformation will be-although I must say your nautical room is certainly wonderful!

ReplyDeleteHmmm...I think you should hold a contest and let us GUESS what your new theme is going to be. I KNEW you weren't leaving because some of us would be hauling butt down to your neck of the woods and tying you to your chair so you would keep blogging...well, of course we would put it on wheels so you could continue with your paint addiction!;>) xo Diana

ReplyDeleteJessica
I know your new design or theme will be just as wonderful, but have to say I still love the nautical look. It's the sailor in me. Ha! Hope you don't toss those cute pillows. If you do, you can toss them this way. LOL! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI've pinned that room because it is so perfect. I'll probably pin the new version too.
ReplyDeleteI adore that blue and white quilt!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Can't wait to see the reveal! I just ordered the striped Land of Nod pillow cases you have for my son's room. Love all your different transformations and I completely share in your painting problem - repainted a table, lamp, a basket and a sign this week :)

we can get tired of the same look.

ReplyDeleteKaren
whatever you do don't let go of those adorable black doggy pillows, so cute!!
ReplyDeleteKim...it's Spring, so this is expected by all us creative, talented women. We always know there's something much better awaiting. Brava!
ReplyDeleteDear Kim,
ReplyDeleteYou deff had me going! I was like, WHAT?! Makes a lot more sense getting tired of a room... I do that all the time. I guess that makes it good we are do-it-our-selfers, because otherwise that tendency would get majorly more expensive! ;)
Love,
Changin it up in NE
Please don’t do that again! What would we do without you Kim? You are our go to for how to....... Although I think this room is so gorgeous and interesting it will be fun to see your new reveal..........Don’t work to hard! Whew...........

The French Hutch
That's the problem when we buy one thing and do a theme around it when it's really not "us" to begin with. Is there a 12 step program for decorators addicted to shopping and change? lol
ReplyDeleteKim, I truly felt a moment of PANIC when I was reading! You totally "got me" - Yikes! tee-hee :-) I can't wait to see your new guest room!! Exciting!! :-D
ReplyDeleteI was a bit worried when I saw that title! I clicked through so fast thinking 'Surely she isn't saying what it sounds like'!!!! Glad it's just the nautical theme although it is really cute!
ReplyDeleteOh, but I love the nautical so much! Alas, change is good. I just sold my sofa, which I love and is still in great shape because I just need a change, so I completely understand!
ReplyDeleteTruth be told...I remember all those changes. I've been following along for quite a while...you were one of the first blogs I ever followed! It will be fun to see what changes you will make! Thanks again for fixing that thing with your blog! Don't know what happened, but whatever you did it worked! ;)
ReplyDeleteI also remember all the different transformation of the room and I can't wait to see what the new "them" will be.
ReplyDeleteDo not scare me like that. I think that is the problem with any themed room, we just tire of them more quickly. Looking forward to the new look.
ReplyDeleteLaura
Awwww! I love the nautical theme but if it's time for a change, it's time for a change. Love the old Navy uniform! I have a picture of my father wearing one just like it! Can't wait to see the room's new look! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteNice to see the metamorphosis of the room over time. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love that framed sailor suit Kim - but I know you'll do something amazing!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Oh my...it will be interesting to see what you do with this room. No matter how great our things look, we're just ready for a change sometimes!
