Dressed In Black... a French Bench

I have heard so many times folks say that every room should have some black in it and that black grounds a room. Well, I'm not sold that every room needs black, but I do love the look of black furniture and decided to update a piece by painting it black.

I decided to paint the bench in my great room black. I love caning and love how this turned out.

I had been wanting to do this for some time and finally took the plunge last week. 

I used Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Typewriter and just quickly brushed it on.

I was truly hoping it would start peeling and I even had used some Vaseline in places so it would help resist.

It did peel pretty good here, but most of the bench got a good sanding.

After all the sanding was done I rubbed the Hemp Oil on all over. I love using the oil. It is so easy.

I am happy with the way it turned out. It really looks like an antique with wear from many years of use.

You can see the before here of the last time I painted it. I liked that, too, but was ready to see it dressed in black.
