I dream of wide planked pine floors, an apron front sink in the kitchen, a claw foot tub in the bathroom, and a big front porch in my vintage or new to look vintage farm house. Only thing, it is all just a dream. Mr. Savvy has no desire to move so what's a girl to do, but to add some farmhouse style to the home I'm in.
So that's exactly what I did in the guestroom....
First step was painting over the gray walls with Linen White by Benjamin Moore. This instantly made the room so much brighter. Bad thing is it took three coats.
My other cow hanging has found a new spot front and center over the bed. The other one is still hanging in the powder room.
The red plaid pillows were found at HomeGoods last year and are by Ralph Lauren. They have moved all over the house and then were in storage. Glad to be using them again.
This typography pillow is one of only three accessories purchased for this room makeover. I found it at the Pottery Barn outlet several weeks ago.
The cheap vintage quilt I found last year is the perfect touch for the bed.
I shared this table makeover with you a few days ago. I filled a reproduction farm style pitcher with yellow flowers and an ironstone plate for guests to place their smalls on. This is one of a pair of lamps found at the Pottery Barn outlet for a steal. Regularly $149 on sale for $49. Yip yip!
This is the other side of the bed. A few days after I had this room finished I remembered this rooster sign sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets and knew it would be perfect here.
I removed the two shelves that were here before and added this church painting from the other guest room.
This is the wicker chair that was in the master bedroom and it works well in here. I then added the vintage blue enamel sign to the back of the chair with a piece of floral wire. The cushion is a large pillow that was in storage.
A yellow foot stool to prop your feet up and you can grab a magazine from the vintage orchard basket.
Originally I added a vintage basket on the wall and then I thought of using my apple painting and it is just the right fit for this room.
Of course there has to be a reading lamp. This was pulled from the sitting room to use here.
I removed the luggage rack and placed this vintage stool here under a clock I have had for years from Ballard's. Vintage quilts are stacked on top. I will pull the luggage rack back out for guests.
The red armoire got updated a bit and I will share details soon.
So did you guess farmhouse style when I gave you little teases?
Mr. Savvy said we will see how long it stays this way. I told him the nautical look stayed for three years.
That's long for me, but this will stay a good while. Possible accessory updates, but not a full room change.
By the way, this room has been finished a couple months. I'm not just whipping these things out as I reveal them. It is also funny I had this room finished before my sister finished her master bedroom and we used the same paint color and the cow art over the bed. I guess we really are related!
Be sure to come back tomorrow for another guest poster's fabulous favorite room.

How about that? I really like how this room turned out. You'll be able to do lots of changes (if you want) in the future with the walls so neutral. This room definitely speaks farmhouse to me with the cow hanging, old quilts, ticking stripe and bushel basket on the floor. Great job!

Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you got three coats from one gallon! Looks great, Kim. But, then I knew it would. ;) blessings ~ tanna
