Hello to all of Kim's loyal followers....my name is Sherry Hart, I am a designer here in Atlanta, and my blog is Design Indulgence.
Today I am sharing a favorite area of my home.
Our house was built in 1946...we bought and renovated it in 1994 adding about a 1000 square feet which included enlarging the kitchen, a family room, and master bedroom with bath. It is now a 3/3 with about 2400 sq ft.
Most of our time is spent in the kitchen/family room which is all open. Don't get me wrong...I don't cook but I need a place to heat up the takeout right?
During the build out we chose white Corian countertops. They were great but keeping them clean was a chore! About 10 years ago we installed granite. Who knows how dirty those suckers are now.....cause I can't see it.
The cabinets and backsplash are original to our renovation.
I had these custom bookcases built when we moved in. I also designed the FP mantel which is made out of cypress and white washed.
I love my collection of old bottles....since the art is big and colorful these don't add too much visual clutter.
It's easy to cut a few pieces of greenery from my yard....and they will usually last for a couple of weeks.
I also try to keep the bookcases pretty simple without a lot of color.
Again...more old bottles....sometimes I get on a roll.
This console was made out of old pine but I got a wild hair one day and painted it. Everybody was like "but it's antique pine!".....and I was like "yeah...so what". Still glad I got that wild hair.
I'm pretty sure I DON'T PAINT as much as Kim.
It can be hard to style under a TV....but mine hangs quite high so I have room to play around on occasion:)
All of my furniture is slipcovered in white. It makes it easy to change out pillows and throws which I do pretty often! Plus I have a disability not being able to make decisions.
I fell in love with my pigeon basket coffee table from the first time I spotted it about 7 years ago. You can get one at PB now and they are great because it's on wheels and can be moved around easily. In case you want to clean.
All of the art in this gallery was found at flea markets and thrift shops using Ikea and Target frames.
I can't believe I have kept this little fern alive for 10 months.
I think you can see that my style is pretty casual. I like to mix in old things to give the room a more curated feel.....
The silver award cup is a perfect fit for my candles......
When Kim asked me to do this a month ago...I was all sure...OK! Of course it is due tomorrow so I am [as usual] sliding right under the deadline.....
Thank's Kim for including me in your series. You made me work but not as hard as you do:)
Sherika
Thanks, Sherry for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your favorite room.
Y'all will love exploring more of Sherry's blog, Design Indulgence and reading her ka-razy posts. You will always get a laugh.
I was also thrilled to meet Sherry at the Haven conference last weekend. I saw her standing there talking to someone and I was all like it's S-h-e-r-r-y in slow motion. I have been wanting to meet up with her forever. Next time I will hopefully meet up with her at Scott's Antique Market and get tips from the pro herself.
Have a fabulous weekend!
