There have been a couple changes made in the breakfast room. The peacock picture that used to hang above the fireplace in the great room now hangs in here and the other new thing is my new light fixture.
I am loving this new hanging lantern from Ballard Designs. I have been wanting to replace the chandy I had hanging here for quite some time. The chandy was okay, but it was never centered over the table and that really bugged me.
The light arrived very quickly and Mr. Savvy hung it last weekend. He moved the light back towards the window behind the table about six inches. I knew he could either patch the holes and I could repaint the entire ceiling in the breakfast room and kitchen or I could buy a medallion and paint that. I chose the latter. Much easier to paint a medallion than a whole ceiling.
I love how the medallion turned out and will share a tutorial on how I achieved that look later.
Now it hangs centered over the table. I never showed y'all the chandy straight on like this because it was so off.
I love how the peacock picture ties in with the yellow table and chairs.
This light comes in three colors bronze, verdigris and the brick red. I knew the brick red would be perfect and it is exactly like I thought it would be.
The only fall touch I added in here was filling my vintage dough bowl with some of my dried hydrangeas that I cut off my bush last month.
Here is how the old chandy looked. It found a new home in my laundry room. We replaced the florescent light with it and that is when I burned my arm on one of the bulbs. Ouch!
Now I am loving my new red lantern in breakfast room.
Oh Kim, I don't know how you do it, but once again you have found the perfect thing for your home. I love the new lantern!!! The ceiling medallion really pulls it together. The new lighting is especially beautiful when viewed from the other room - looks amazing with your upholstered chair. I know what you mean about an uncentered kitchen light driving you crazy, I had mine fixed last fall as well. Jane
ReplyDeleteLove that pretty shot of the lantern through the arch! It's a great color, and I bet that chandy looks nice in the laundry room too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lantern Kim and the medallion sets it off beautifully!~~Angela
ReplyDeleteI do like the table!

ReplyDeleteThe old chandy didn't look bad either Kim, but I have to agree, the new lantern is beautiful and ties in well with your breakfast area but your living room as well with that red seat!
ReplyDeleteI love it Kim...that last shot is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lantern! Nice shots but my fave is the one through the arch.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday :-)
Kim, your new lantern is lovely, and I love the added medallion. It gives your light so much more of a presence. I especially love all of your beautiful artwork!
ReplyDeleteI think this is my favourite version of your breakfast room yet!

It is so perfect, Kim! Lanterns just add a whole different feel.
ReplyDeleteKim the color and size of it are perfect for your breakfast room! And I meant to say in my last comment that I was sorry you burned yourself, and glad you didn't cut yourself on all of that broken glass!

LOVE it! I thought your old chandy looked great, but when I see the before and after, the lantern is a wow! I've always looooved that picture also, and was wondering where you moved it to! We have to move a pendant in the kitchen, and am trying to figure out a way to hide the patch. I love your medallion idea, but it won't work in my space. I think we have another similar idea worked out though.
ReplyDeleteI never even noticed your old one was off, but I know what you mean about it bothering you. MY breakfast chandy is the same way, plus the electrician hung it to high and cut the wiring so it could not be lowered. grrrr I just love this one, and the painting looks good there, too.
ReplyDeleteKim!
ReplyDeleteOkay great minds and all that!!! Love your lantern and I hung one this weekend too! How funny is that?? Love your breakfast room changes!

I have loved that lantern since I first laid eyes on it! It looks gorgeous in your space, and now you have me eyeballing my fixtures that I've put up with, but never really LOVED, you know?
ReplyDeleteI think the light looks very odd. The old chandelier looked a lot more appropriate. I am glad you took down the dog painting...that was odd too for a breakfast area. You need to just stop and enjoy your home a little. No one else will tell you that, but they are thinking it.
ReplyDeleteLove the lantern in your breakfast room! It looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThe lantern looks great. Love it Kim. Have fun in France.
ReplyDeleteKris
Oh Kim....that lantern is perfect in there...
ReplyDeleteThe new red lantern really is a perfect change! It brings more weight to your breakfast room and I LOVE the medallion!!!! Beautiful changes!

It looks fantastic! I love the lantern look! Your hubby did a great job of hardwiring. We are trying to move our hardwire lights in the master bath..no easy task! Medallion a great solution!-aimee
ReplyDeleteLinne, with no reply comment blogger on, thanks so much for your negative input. I am quite happy with my home, but am very creative and don't like to keep things the same for long. The light was hung in the wrong place and needed to be moved so I chose a new one that I liked better. Hanging lanterns do belong in a spot like this. I think you need to study some design books and catalogs.
ReplyDeleteLove the lantern!!! Goes perfectly in the room.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim! Ours is off centered too but when we moved in I just had my father in law swag the light. We would have had to have had a huge medallion.
ReplyDeleteI like the old light, but this one looks fabulous, especially with that medallion! That's sort of what my plumbers did with my shower faucets - converted two holes to one with a conversion plate. Looks great! Now we want to see the laundry room!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love the lantern! I totally would have went with the medallion option as well!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful! I've been eyeing that lantern too!
ReplyDeleteDon't even worry or bother with negative comments. We all know that your home is gorgeous and that you LOVE to do all these things!!! I love the lantern, it is perfect there and the color is YOU! Love it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour breakfast room looks gorgeous with the new lantern. I need to move a few lights over too. The painted medallion is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI know you have waited quite a while for a lantern in the breakfast room...and what is that saying?....."good things happen to those who wait"??.!!..well, you found the perfect lantern...the color is fantastic too!...and of course you did a great job on the medallion..!!....Text book design I say!!!
ReplyDeleteI love lanterns and that looks perfect! My chandelier in my dining room is off center and it drives me crazy! When I find what I want in there, I am going to have the hubs move it like you did! So clever!
ReplyDeleteI so like your little room,it's colours, light and everything.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this, Kim -- very cozy! And your medallion solution is inspired. Thanks for sharing!

Kim, the lantern looks great! I love the medallion, can't wait to see how you did it.
ReplyDeleteThe lantern looks so pretty Kim and love the red color. Also, thanks for sharing your solution to hiding the hole in the ceiling. In our last house we had an off center light fixture and it drove me crazy!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeletelove this! It looks like its always been there!

I love the new lantern. Makes me want to get one for the dining room. I've been thinking about it for awhile. Yours might be just the little nudge I need...not that I need much nudging to change something.LOL
ReplyDeleteLove that lantern.....it's perfect in there!
ReplyDeleteThat lantern is perfect for you! I actually sent that one to a client also...such a great price!
ReplyDeleteLove the lantern the look is great in that room. I am a huge ceiling medallion person.

ReplyDeleteI love your new lantern Kim, looks great!~ Have a fabulous time on your trip! I am so excited for you. Be safe and don't spend too much LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have an off centered ceiling lamp as well. You have inspired me to finally "deal with it". Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have an off centered ceiling lamp as well. You have inspired me to finally "deal with it". Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to move my dining room chandelier a few inches for the longest time but didn't want to patch and paint our plaster ceiling. Eureka! What a great idea to cover the hole with a medallion. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat new lantern is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI really like lanterns as well. But the décor that took my breath away - the art piece. The peacock, rooster etc. - it is beautiful. Did you buy it anywhere in metro-ATL, please?
ReplyDeleteLove your new light Kim!Your room looks so French!Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!
