Today I am joining 24 very creative bloggers for a some fall vignettes 101. I know many of you think of fall vignettes being filled with lots of glittery pumpkins, real pumpkins, pretty fall leaves, etc., but mine is a bit different.
Mine is all about texture and layering because fall means shorter days and cooler weather so just like we layer ourselves for the cold I like to add textures and warm layers in my home. Here are the items I used and I will share how I put all this together.
First we start with the plain chest except I left the lamp there since it is a bit hard to move.
First, let's clean the surface. We don't want to see dust and grime now do we?
So we have a lamp made from demijohn bottle and a wicker wrapped demijohn. Don't want to stop here.
I added some dried hydrangeas to the bottle which adds more texture and height and I love using stacks of books.
On top of the books I placed one of my collected magnifying glasses which ads another layer and it looks better than just a plain book.
So now it looks like this. I could stop here. Rule of thumb is to use odd numbers and I have three here since the stack of books counts as one, but you know I'm not stopping here so let's move on.
Instead of the plain wall I added this fabulous vintage Hungarian bread board that I purchased at the Country Living fair.
Now we have this and I could stop, but not yet. Now, hold on folks. This is a lesson on how to create a fall vignette. :)
The couple from Germany selling these said the shape of the handle and the added initials make this one really old. I'm telling ya it is falling apart, but Mr. Savvy is going to add a little wood glue to it so it will stay together.
I added an old marmalade jar, also from the Country Living fair and stuck a little white boo pumpkin on top, just because. Then I placed this faux grape vine across the bread board and the books for more texture and layering.
Now, I'm finished.
Here it is all cozy at night.
I am not a professional, but hope this helps out anyone challenged in creating vignettes.
Now get out there and create!
Now get out there and create!

Well...you know I am coveting the bread board! Great vignette and ideas, Kim.
ReplyDeleteI love the color of that demijohn lamp! But, that breadboard is the star of your vignette - awesome find!
ReplyDeleteLove that bread board! Whenever I get stuck trying to put something together, your blog is one of the first that I visit for inspiration. Keep it coming! Question...I've seen a pic on Pinterest of a little Christmas tree in an olive bucket from your blog. Would you share where you got the tree? Thanks ~ Ann
ReplyDeleteAs always, your vignettes and decor are so beautiful and perfect! LOVE that breadboard and the marmalade jar. Fab. You have had some wonderful shopping trips lately, Kim. Love how you're putting all together in your home. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this vignette! Especially love the Hungarian bread board because a) I love bread boards and b) I'm Hungarian. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that bread board and such a great vignette. You gave a really super tutorial too. Hugs, marty
ReplyDeletePerfect timing - I bought a wicker wrapped demijohn this weekend and you have given me some great inspiration for displaying it..
ReplyDeleteWell done Kim ( of course! ). I covet that bread board…
ReplyDeleteI'm up tomorrow so come by!

Love your vignette, Kim! Your attention to detail really shows! And I love the tip about cleaning! I'm enjoying being on the tour with so many talented bloggers!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteI love how that looks! It was fun getting to see the process too. I'm in love with the glass demijohn bottle turned lamp. That looks so good and unique. Wish I had that bread board too. Hopefully, you can fix it so nothing will happen to it.
ReplyDeleteits gorgeous kim! i made a round breadboard a few years ago and while it's not vintage nor does it have the charm of yours, i was pretty happy with it and created some vignettes with it on the kitchen table. seeing yours used in an unexpected way is so refreshing and clever! you are the queen of layering and i'm all about layering!
ReplyDeleteisn't the weather gorgeous today? hope you had a fabulous weekend!
I am a lamp addict. I keep looking for the cord on your glass lamp...where is the cord? I, too, like your vignette. We are a Yorkie family also :)
ReplyDeleteLike I have said before - you make the best vignettes in blogland.
ReplyDeletePerfection Kim...love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I luv your vignettes Kim.
ReplyDeleteKim, I REALLY like that you went an unexpected route with your Fall vignette. I too am trying to use mainly items are just beautiful but not just for one season, then add just some seasonal greenery, fruit or flowers. I really don't like buying a bunch of seasonal stuff that has to be stored the rest of the year. That bread board is so priceless and I LOVE your demijohns. So sorry I didn't get to the Country Living Fair. Maybe next year, sigh... I really appreciate you joining our tour!!
ReplyDeleteKim I just love this for so many reasons! First because I've always studied your vignettes and used them as inspiration for my own home but also because you make it seem so easy and natural and it doesn't require a lot of "stuff". So glad to be part of this tour with you! :-)

Looks great Kim! You know I love those bread boards! I was going to go back at the Country Living Fair and get one of those marmalade jars, but I'll have to keep my eyes open around here for one :)
ReplyDeleteYou definitely create a vignette like a professional! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteGreat lesson Kim! What great elements you chose! LOVE that Hungarian bread board!
ReplyDeleteI love the understated elegance of your vignette. It's still seasonal while using mostly on-hand items!
ReplyDeleteIt looks effortless, just everyday things that ended up there causally~yet I know that's not true! Your board is fabulous~ the grapevine is my favorite part~
ReplyDeleteJenna
You always create the greatest vignettes!…and you know how much Iove that bread board!
ReplyDeleteI think you are a professional! I love how the bread board is an unexpected element, and is what really made this vignette special. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Don't you just love using dried hydrangeas! That bread board is to die for. So happy to be on the tour with you this week. ~Christy
