Since the buffet is very tall, actually comes up to my chest, I thought a round mirror would work better. I wanted an antique one preferably. Maybe a gold tone. Maybe with some details. And I definitely wanted the mirror glass to be old and spotty and worn. Well, I lucked up and found this one at Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta last October.
The lady who had the booth I found this mirror in was also the owner of this mirror so she was able to tell me about it. She said she and her husband had downsized from a larger home and of course some things had to be let go and this mirror was one of them.
She said it dates back to the 1920's and it is really showing its age. You can see how the finish has worn off and I love the fact that the glass is very spotty.
Lots of pretty details.
She said most folks would not buy this mirror because of the cloudy antiqued mirror and that is what I wanted. This was a steal at $80.
Here you can see how foggy looking the mirror is. The frame is solid wood and it is quite heavy. I kept this stored away until my French antiques got here. I was thrilled that my vision for this mirror was a good one.
You can see the mirror and buffet that was replaced here.
Thanks so much for all the rug love yesterday. Didn't know I would get that much response for a rug.

ReplyDeleteI love the cloudy look and it is !much more flattering for women of a certain age😊
ReplyDeleteThe mirror is gorgeous, Kim! I love its cloudiness. You got a great deal!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful mirror and a fabulous price! I love aged mirrors.
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with this mirror! The shape is fantastic and I love the age showing. My favorite thing about older mirrors is when they start to get cloudy and show their age. :)

ReplyDelete$80.00 is a great deal. It is gorgeous. I can't wait to see the buffet.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful, Kim. You knew what you were doing when you chose that one.
ReplyDeleteI love it foggy and all. We were at a party over the weekend and someone had a full wall sized mirror. I think they purposely made it foggy. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find Kim! Your new mirror is gorgeous, love all of the aged details and the round shape, I know it will look amazing with your new buffet!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful find! I love the spotted glass. I have an old mirror of my Granny's and I love it too for that reason.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Kim - you totally SCORED - that is an amazing treasure! LOOOOOVE it!
ReplyDeleteNow, any chance you can take a long far back shot so we can actually see how it looks with the buffet dimensions-wise? I was disappointed not seeing a pic from afar. I know it is danged near impossible to get a decent shot with reflections, etc like that - feel free to just email me. I am dying to see.
Well done, looks amazing.
Your vision was PERFECT!!! I love it, it reminds me of a mirror my Grandmother had. I always wonder what in the world happened to all her things??? So sad that I have nothing but a few glasses from her, oh and a gorgeous cocktail ring. Your home gets better and better. You have the midus touch, Kim.
ReplyDeleteFull shots of the buffet are coming soon.
ReplyDeleteMirror is beautiful, so ornate. Where is the former mirror going? I always loved its presence.
ReplyDeleteWish I lived near enough to trek to Scott's Antique Market - great find, great price.
ReplyDeleteWhat a luvly find. AND a luvly price as well. It is a stunner Kim. I luv the cloudy look. I have 2 about the same age with the same cloudy spotty look. NO where as much detail as yours though.
ReplyDeleteHappy today!
I want that mirror!!! What a great find and a great price!!! Love the detail and the cloudy glass part......my kind of antique!!!

I like that mirror you found! The round shape is perfect there and I like that it is old. I do think that was a good deal for it.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the patina!
ReplyDeletePam
It's stunning, Kim! What a gorgeous patina and lovely details, and the very best feature of all: the aged glass!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Gorgeous Kim! Me too, love the cloudy mirror...

Kim this mirror looks fabulous! I cannot wait to see all of your finds.
ReplyDelete$80??? What a steal! It's got such character, and the cloudy glass just adds to its appeal. It looks great. I have a similar mirror - it was my husband's grandmother's, so it is OLD and very heavy. We had it hanging up for awhile, then replaced it with something else. I keep hoping to have an "aha" moment as to where to hang it.
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty! Love all the detail.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I'm with you on the aged glass Kim. It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteI read your rug post but not the comments. I have to say the larger size is soooooo much nicer.
The perfect mirror over your buffet…it is beautiful..and foggy, spotty mirrors have such great character!! You scored on that one!!
ReplyDeleteYou got a great deal, it's a very pretty mirror!
