This is an older photo of the great room. I wanted to show it first plus the next couple of photos of the rugs I have had in here. This very open room is really hard to do a rug correctly in. I have been using a 5 x 8 just in front of the sofa and chairs.
This is the rug I have been using this winter. I love this rug and again it is a 5 x 8.
Well, now we have this beauty and I love it. I measured this area again and with fingers crossed ordered a 8 x 10 from Joss & Main with my credits.
I was afraid the most at how the color was going to look. They were describing it as more of an ivory. This is a jute rug by Jaipur. I didn't know who the maker was until it arrived.
As you can see it runs under the chairs now and halfway under the sofa.
We put a felt rug pad underneath that I ordered from overstock.com. They shipped that very quickly.
I was afraid the rug would be rough, but it is quite soft and feels wonderful underfoot on the pad.
We have to walk through this area to our master bedroom and that is why I have always used a smaller rug since this area has to stay open, but I think this larger size is working well.
I'm off to my first Atlanta area bloggers group meeting this morning with Laura
Enjoy your day!
Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the rug....looks awesome!
ReplyDeletelove the red one and this one too.... enjoy~!
ReplyDeletePerfect size, Kim ... love the color, too!
ReplyDeleteI like the large size, it looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteKim, loving your new rug, it's perfect! The color is awesome in your great room! Have fun visiting with the Atlanta bloggers!
ReplyDeleteLove the new rug!
ReplyDeleteI switched out my rugs to jute a couple of years ago. I had the same reservation as you, but I LOVE them... I love the simple textured grounded-ness they add!! Yep, I think you got it right, too. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI love the rug and think that the 8x10 pulls it into a conversation area. What I love even more is the wood floor. What kind is it>>> Love you blog. and love your decorating.
ReplyDeleteI never realized how a bigger rug could make a room look so much larger! I have to make the same decision about my own living room, and this post has really helped. The jute is beautiful! Thanks for sharing . :)
ReplyDeleteI really love that rug! I love my ivory shag but REALLY like the Jute! Thanks for sharing and it looks great, yup I think you got it right for SURE. :-) Have a great time and have an great weekend.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Kim, I love the jute rug too. I think it adds a wonderful texture to the room and it looks great with your pretty sofa pillows too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room and very comfortable looking.
Have a nice weekend,
Lisa
Love it! I think it looks perfect for that room!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim. I've never owned a jute rug. This one is beautiful! I had a 13 by 18 in the living room for a couple of years, that matched the stair runner. I ended up selling it, as I thought it too large. I like the look of our wood floors and like a rug that isn't too large. With that in mind I started using 8x10's in the living room and find them an idea size. The furniture legs are on the rug and yet that size doesn't cover all the gorgeous wood.
ReplyDeleteYou may very well have given me an idea for the hearth room rug, after the new chairs arrive.
I love your new rug too. I have a question to anyone who owns a jute, seagrass, whatever rug.......... How do you clean them? Are they easy to vacuum? Thanks. I've been looking at a beauty at Tuesday Morning and that was my only concern.
ReplyDeleteYes…love that rug and you got it right!…Have fun with the bloggers get together…xoxo's to Laura!
ReplyDeleteThe larger area rug really does a nice job of pulling your seating/conversation area together. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Yes, you did get it right! I love the size and the texture! Have fun today!

Looks like a perfect choice! Love the color, size and texture!

I agree that the larger size looks best. I really like the texture it brings to the room.
ReplyDeleteI love it.....such a gorgeous rug and just the perfect size :o)
ReplyDelete~Des
Definitely a much better choice of color, size, and texture! I love your red couch and chair - so pretty. Lucky girl to have a blogger meet up - enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMarie@TheInteriorFrugalista
I do think it looks fantastic. The larger size is just right!
ReplyDeleteI feel that the larger rug really grounds the area...and I love how neutral it is so that the things at eye level become the focal point! Good job Kim. And what blogger meet up am I missing now???
ReplyDeleteLove your new rug!! I just got a jute rug a couple weeks ago from Overstock seriously discounted that Joss and Main also sold and we love the texture. I have to use at least an 8x10 too, and it makes a big difference.
ReplyDeleteThat is the perfect size and color of rug Kim. It looks great there.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking rug! I think rug size is sort of trial and error as far as what you like and the size of the room.
ReplyDeleteThe rug I have in the living room is a little smaller than I like, even though the designer at the furniture store said it's the size for the seating area. Since then, I've discovered I like it when the furniture legs are either all on, or all off the rug. I ended up with three chair legs "on" and one leg "off".and had to put a spacer under the one leg to make it level. LOL Anyway, your new rug looks great..love the color and texture.
I agree with Sherry the jute rug color and size grounds the area and pulls it all together so well. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteI love it Kim and like the 8x10 in there much better. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI think the new rug looks great, Kim. It makes the space look bigger to me and I love jute rugs to begin with :)
ReplyDeleteIt actually looks better with your space! Personally, I would move it back a touch from the hearth....cause it looks like it butts up to that...I love the look of those rugs....lots of cozy texture.....
ReplyDeleteGreat job...

This rug is absolutely gorgeous!!! We have a couple of similar ones and I just adore them. x
ReplyDeleteYou DID get it right! It looks beautiful and I have always heard that a rug SHOULD have some of the furniture on it so it is not "floating" in the room. Beautiful choice, Kim!!! Have fun with the other bloggers!!! I am jealous:):)
ReplyDeleteLuv it! I am a fan of jute rugs, but have found out that jute rugs and large dogs do not work well together. Mine is in the sunroom and will have to be placed on the curb soon :(
ReplyDeleteI have always bought 8x10 or larger...
It looks fan Kim! But then I luv your style :D , so I may be a wee bit partial!
Enjoy your outing today.
Kim, love this jute better than any of the other looks. And you are right, the size is perfect. Your floors are beautiful, btw.
ReplyDeleteI have a rug that looks exactly like yours...our den is large too and I've always struggled with a size but picked one up at Ross (of all places) last fall for $89 (score!) and it looks just like the more expensive ones from PB. Ordered my rug pad from Overstock too (where I usually get all of my rugs) and it's perfect. It's held up very well when I vacuum and no stains or pulls on the rug. I layered my "fake" cowhide over it. You could always layer one of your 5x8 rugs over yours to change it up down the road. Hope you share details about the blogger meeting....we need to have another one here in Montgomery if it ever warms up again!
ReplyDeleteWin! Win! Softness plus texture! This is a really good look for your room and you really did get it right!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks beautiful, Kim. I like the larger neutral rug and you still have the open area for the path to the bedroom. Enjoy your get together.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this rug. Been wanting to try a jute rug too but feared it being too scratchy and rough. This is truly SOFT? Really, honestly? That is so hard to believe. What was the Joss and Main NAME of the rug - if your is soft I am willing to give it a try - but wouldn't want to get the wrong one. I have been SO afraid to try. Especially since right now I have a beautiful wool Persian rug there - just want to "casual" up the space a teensy bit more and thought a jute would work perfectly...but didn't get past my worries to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation. Hope you had a wonderful time at the blog meet.
I love the bigger size and color combination too. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice! Bigger is usually better! :)
ReplyDeleteYour new rug looks beautiful, Kimmie! Have fun with the blogges.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Gorgeous, love your design style.
ReplyDeleteI love how the larger rug makes the sofa and the armchairs "connected" to each other, like it shows where the cosy spot is. I've been thinking of a rug of that kind myself, since one of the kitty played a little too much on the wool one I used to have...
ReplyDelete"one of the kitties", sorry!
DeleteI really love the neutral tones of the new rug and I think the larger size looks even better in there. What a great find that was. Hope you have fun with the other bloggers today!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThe rug looks fabulous. I do like the larger size in there. Hope you had fun at the Atlanta bloggers thingie. I saw some photos on my Instagram feed from it. You girls in Atlanta are ORGANIZED! Would love if they had something like that up here!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteLove the new rug. Love the color too.
Kris
Guess I like color--I am missing the red one! But you didn't show a distant photo of the red one so it is hard to compare.
ReplyDeleteYou got it right, Babe! Love the larger size, love the jute/seagrass, looks so new & fresh. I think I would still use the red for Christmas though, it really sends a good message. Kill it in Atlanta! xx's
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Love the way you have the room arranged! The rug pulls everything together well! Hope you enjoy the conference.
ReplyDeletewow the rug looks beautiful.I have been looking at jute rugs for awhile now but worried if they would be hard.thanks for clearing this up Im off to order some new rugs-love dee x
ReplyDeleteKim, I like the texture of the jute against those beautiful wood floors. Looks like there is plenty of room for a path way to your master.
ReplyDeleteKnow you had a great day with bloggers.
It's absolutely perfect Kim!! You definitely got it right!!
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Looks very comfortable and pretty. Nice colors.
ReplyDeleteI love your rug Kim. I think it looks perfect. Your great room is so beautiful with all the windows.
ReplyDeleteKathy
I love how the larger rug pulls it together. But have loved all your rugs.
ReplyDeleteI love your new rug so much more than the others you had in place. It really pulls everything together very nicely.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the rug! That coffee table is beautiful too! Love your blog… new follower here. :) Thanks so much for sharing!!! :)
ReplyDeleteKim, LOVE that rug!!!! My favorite of the rugs you have tried in there. Please share the name Joss & Main give it....so want one for my sitting room/playroom. Tried one from RugsUSA but it was to stiff and scratchy.
ReplyDeletePS....Have you considered turning the rug? Short end under the sofa and long end shared by the chairs. Personal preference here. :-)
Vanessa
You do know Joss and Main is a flash sale site? It may come back up or it may never. They had it titled Natura, but it may be titled differently if it comes up again. If I turn it the other way it would be across the area we have to walk through and would not look right and could trip us up.
Deletethanks
Kim, Thanks for the info regarding the rug....love Joss and Main, have several pieces from there. Will keep my eyes open just in case they bring your rug back.
DeleteBummer you can't turn it the other way....so understanding about tripping on things...Grace should have been my middle name.
The rug is really beautiful in the greatroom....of course your whole home is GORGEOUS!!!!
Love the new chest and mirror in the foyer as well!!!!
Stay warm!!!
You got it right, Kim! I love the what that texture adds to the room. I think it is my favorite of the three, but they are small enough that you can easily switch out for a change.
