I always spy ironstone when I am out. This large ironstone jug certainly grabbed my attention a few weeks ago.
If it is old, crazed and stained then I am drawn to it even more.
Of course I see nothing wrong with a few chips either.
They don't have to be marked, but it is nice when they are.
I recently came across this teeny tiny little jar and knew it had to come home with me.
It also has its imperfections.
I already have a few Dundee Marmalade jars and now this potted meats one makes me want to find more of these. This is always a problem being a collector you will probably find something new to collect.
This one was love at first sight. Then the seller told me what it was. It's a chamber pot. A very heavy one, too. I have a small light weight one that I have owned for years. In fact it is the first piece of ironstone I ever purchased not even knowing it was ironstone. I just knew it was a pretty white pot with a handle.
This one is much thicker than my other one and it is heavily crazed unlike my other one.
After taking the ironstone platters out of my hutch to place on each side of the new picture in the dining room I was on the search for some new platters to fill those empty spots. So I lucked up on two of these with this scalloped edge.
It looks like they are restaurant ware.
My ironstone collection is spread throughout the house and I will share where all these pieces ended up in future posts.
You know what? I didn't even know what ironstone was or had I ever heard of it before blogging. Yep, I have quite a few collections that I didn't have before blogging.
Not sure if that is good or bad....
I say good.
If you go antiquing or junking this weekend I hope you find some treasures.
Have a good one!

Great finds Kim...love that little jar. I have two chamber pots...a white one that looks like yours and a blue and white one too...I have a fern in one of them now.
ReplyDeletethat little pot is wonderful, I love Ironstone as well, your collection is growing!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great collection of ironstone. Would all be so sweet in a display filled with flowers. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteOf course I love your ironstone finds!! The little crock is a real gem of a find! I'm having a hard time resisting those lately, with a little collection starting...like I need another collection!

Your collection is growing very nicely! I adore that potted meat jar. I didn't bring home a thing yesterday. Darn...
ReplyDeleteNice pieces Kim ! My iron stone luv has been a life long thing. Grew up with the stuff and just took it for granted. But true.... you get radar! Hahaha.... Chamber pots... they are do expensive in my area. I need one to complete my chamber set.
ReplyDeletehope you have a good weekend too, you little collector you!
ReplyDeleteLove all of your ironstone pieces, so pretty. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteLove your ironstone pieces. You have some very unique pieces. Love the meat jar. Great treasured pieces.
Kris
I love all of your new finds...especially that potted meat jar and the "chamber pot". have you thought of putting a little plant in the chamber pot, maybe something like baby tears (i think that's what it's called) or some ivy? that would look beautiful spilling out of the pot. i'm going to have to find me some of those little jars now....see what you started? (LOL)!
ReplyDeleteI like your ironstone collection. Love the new little meat jar.
ReplyDeleteCollecting just kind of takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? I usually find if I am collecting something that something similar might catch my eye and make me want to find more of that- like blue transferware and now red transferware. Crazy!
ReplyDeleteIt will be fun to see how you integrate the new items into your home, Kim. Diana
Nice finds and yes, collections definitely have a way of creeping in scope. Your smaller chamber pot is likely for the lady of the house, or even the children. Last year at Springfield (Ohio) Extravaganza there was a dealer from England who actually dug (unauthorized) from the landfills there, and sold many of the meat & marmalade crocks here in the US. I bought a nested set of 3 different sizes - one of which is called bloater's paste - a sort of fish spread popular in England. I wrote a post on that Extravaganza, including him and the cool treasures he sold.

Nice finds Kim, you certainly have an eye for nice things.
ReplyDeleteLove your little meat jar...so graphic...and your pitcher's twin is full of hydrangea on my dining table! Collections are good!
ReplyDeleteCool jar and what a collection to have, Kim! You always have great treasures to show us! I'd love to go shopping with you! Have a great day!

I like you am drawn to things I collect, and my heart skips a beat when I spot them. At the moment I'm into ironstone and roses. I am going to be a rose hoarder!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I love your collections! I do have different antiques that I collect but after packing up our house and having to make endless runs to the thrift store, I will definitely be more careful about not buying things that don't have value. I started going to garage sales with my bff and end up buying things that I shouldn't; this year will be different though. I love your Ironstone! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Noreen
I'm trying to limit my collections, but somehow I keep finding new things I like to collect. I love the look of old ironstone and have a few pitchers, but no platters.....yet. Great finds!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great eye Kim and you always find the best collectibles!
ReplyDeleteI love the little meat pot!!! I have got to keep my eye out for one!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds Kim!
ReplyDeleteYou have some really wonderful pieces! I agree, some collections are a very good thing.
ReplyDeleteOf course I find it good! I love collections! And another one is always welcome.
ReplyDeleteYour ironstone pieces are fantastic.
Besos!
Love your new ironstone pieces, Kim. I also collect white ironstone and have filled my dining room hutch with it. It looks so simple and line and shape trump color in the display. Enjoyed this post. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteYes, I too find myself homing in, just like a missile, on the things I love when I'm junking...and I think a person can actually manifest things they are seeking.
ReplyDeleteI don't collect anything...as an eBay seller, I "borrow" things from my stock until they are sold. That serves two purposes. I get to enjoy a lovely item before I pass it on to its newest owner and it gives me a safe place to store some items. I like being a caretaker.
ReplyDeleteYes I didnt know either but I knew what I liked, the issue now is stopping! LOL I did go thrifting and antiquing yesterday, of course found another dough bowl and milk glass items....LOL I am really looking for old locker baskets but they seem to be very hard to find up here. Kim thanks for sharing and have a great day. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a little meat pot like that. Great find!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly found some great things...my mom had lots of ironstone, but we kids just thought it was plain ole dishes!...Love the potted meats jar!
ReplyDeleteSainbury's is still one of the 'Big 4' supermarket chains here in the UK and to think that little pot found it's way across the Atlantic!
ReplyDeleteI agree with that staining, crazing and chips just add to the charm. As for the chamber pots....I use them for garden displays or to hold bathroom necessities, only. I always enjoy seeing your collections and displays. I wish I would have held onto my dad's old stoneware jars...he love his Dundee marmalade and had some great other's that he brought back from France!
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your new acquisitions, especially the chamber pot! Back in the early 70s when I married for the first time, I selected white ironstone china. Used and loved it for years, but somewhere along the line I got rid of it. I can't tell you how many times I wish I had it back!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finds Kim,especially that pitcher. The patina is absolutely fab!

I love your Ironstone collection. I started collecting ironstone last year and it is quickly becoming an addiction. Thanks for sharing your collection and inspiring me to shop even more :)
ReplyDeleteShelly
Lovely finds! Guess what I'll be looking for now? A little potted meats jar of my own!
ReplyDeleteAdore your ironstone collection. I have that same ironstone chamber pot too. I love collecting milk glass and vintage rose china. I might be running out of space to put them. : )
ReplyDeleteVictoria
I did find quite a few I'll be sharing on Tuesday Kim, but love your current addition to your collection! I didn't know about ironstone too until I started blogging! So many wonderful information out here!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of ironstone pre blogging either! I also never collected white dishes then. I love your new finds. I have been on the lookout for more blue and white jars but they have gotten too expensive! Have a great week, Kim.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, that little potted meats jar is adorable! Your ironstone collection as really great. I really don't know a lot about it, but it will be fun to look for.
ReplyDeleteI've been on a search for Ironstone platters - lucky you!
