Yep, there is a room I have never shared. No, it isn't the Hoarding Room because I did share that a couple years ago and it is even worse now. The room I am sharing today is not a pretty room or a room that you would want to visit with your friends. It is a very functional room though. It also has many names. :)
A few weeks ago I finally did a little makeover on this room that had been put off for years.
We must first step in here. Yes, you have seen the master bath before, but there is another room in here you haven't seen.
It's behind this door, but watch out it ain't purdy.
See, I told you. Don't you love the wall treatment?
Applying this Venetian plaster wall treatment was easier than removing the wallpaper that was stuck to the wall. Of course there were nail holes to fill from previous artwork.
Oh, and the ceiling is even better painted gold. Hate the fan light, but that stays, I'm afraid.
First up was the prep work. Patched a few nail holes and covered the back of the toilet with a garbage bag.
This makes it easier to paint behind it.
This room is tiny and makes it a challenge to reach the ceiling and up high.
The new color is so much better and brighter. I used Linen White by Benjamin Moore that was left over from other rooms.
The decor is very minimal in here. I just hung these caricatures of Mr. Savvy and me that were drawn many years ago.
Mine doesn't really look like me, but he sure got the subject right.
So hard to get good photos is this small poorly lit space.
This is our cool toilet paper storage that I bought several years ago.
An ironstone casserole hold some lavender sachets.
So thanks for stopping by my john.
:)
We just got back late yesterday from our long weekend trip and now the fun part of unpacking and doing the laundry and catching up on everything. I will share some pics soon.
Have a super week!

The WC in our bath is in dire need of a makeover also. We keep putting it off due to the high ceiling narrowness of the "room".:-)
ReplyDeleteI love the caricatures!
You are definitely not alone in having the same kind of room needing a makeover...but you are way ahead of me in getting in done!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Wow you have been working hard and I love the lighter color.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dawn. I did this in one afternoon back in February and just getting around to sharing it.
DeleteWhat a difference a little paint can make. It is so hard to paint tiny bathroom area, with toilets!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's the little things:)
ReplyDeleteLooks so much better with the lighter color Kim...I hate those fan/lights too! Cute accessories!
ReplyDeleteah...that dreaded room awaits me as well. hope you had a fun weekend. can't wait to hear all about it.
ReplyDeleteLove the color so much better. Even though it is a tiny space, I bet it was a pain to paint!
ReplyDeleteAngela @ Number Fifty-Three
The lighter color is so much better! I love the caricatures too. Where did you get the storage basket for the toilet paper????
ReplyDeleteWow...what a difference...love the new look!...Yes, we often neglect "the loo room"....When they were photographing my master bath, I noticed they opened the "loo room" I gasped...however, they wanted to get a shot of the "window only"...a good thing....you are inspiring me bling up that area too...Love the caricatures...he did capture Mr. Savvy well...and you too "with the shopping bags" !!!
ReplyDeleteThe new paint job made a world of difference! My powder room needs to be tackled too - heinous wallpaper and matching fabric blinds - so I needed some of your "before" and "after" inspiration to get me going on it!
ReplyDeleteI think we all have a room that we hate and want to redo. The bathroom looks nice, I really like what a new and clean can of paint can do.. Another great job!
ReplyDeleteBig improvement! And I LOVE the use of the ironstone casserole!
ReplyDeleteI love your changes! Fresh paint can make all the difference. Your lavender sachets are perfect in the ironstone casserole - great idea! How fun to make good use of some fun memories with your caricatures. I love your TP holder, too!! Blessings,

I am always amazed at the BIG difference a little paint makes. Light and bright.
ReplyDeleteCute caricatures :) Luv the Ironstone with the sachets.
Hugs, Gee
Cute pictures! Thanks so much for the trash bag toilet cover painting tip!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a transformation....looks so much better!
ReplyDeleteThe lighter paint makes it feel a bit bigger :) Love the toilet paper holder!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful Kim! Much brighter and seems bigger!
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Isn't it amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do? It looks so much brighter now. I adore the lavender sachets. I need to redo my bathroom too but I just keep pushing it off and pushing it off. One of these days.
ReplyDeleteI love that TP holder-basket - very clever!
ReplyDeleteTo me, the bathrooms are the hardest to decorate. We have a small half bath downstairs that I have no idea what to do with. And of course it is the bathroom that everyone, including guests, use. I love the idea of covering the back of the toilet with a trash bag for painting. Now, for any good suggestions on how to paint behind the lower part of the toilet without feeling like you are hugging it. LOL As usual, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteBack in the day, I'm sure it was beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can well remember the awkwardness of getting on and off the ladder balanced over the toilet in our water closet- not fun. High ceilings are great until you have to paint them, aren't they?! Love the caricatures, very cute.
ReplyDeleteWell, you do know how to make one great john room look snazzy! Awesome transformation, Kim!
ReplyDeleteGreat new look for this water closet. Love the color choice.
ReplyDeleteLove the toilet paper holder.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Reading your referral to the room being the john reminded me of a thing I read where a lady called her bathroom Jim, her husband was John. Plus she liked saying she went to the gym (Jim) every morning! I agree small baths are hard to decorate.
ReplyDeleteI think we all have those rooms! I'm working on mine now - the laundry room - so small...but pleased to get this almost checked of my list! Love the charicatures!
ReplyDeleteKathy
I have several I've not shown!!! What fun caricatures of you and Mr. Savvy!
ReplyDeleteThat looks good, Kim. Sometimes it is those rooms we put off doing that drive us nuts---and then we feel SO good when we're done. We did that same sort of plaster job in my friend's house when we could not BUDGE the wallpaper and it was scraped up here and there. Works great, doesn't it? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteKim, this looks great! I love the texture of the Venetian plaster too! It looks great painted in a lighter color. I know all too well about hanging off of a ladder in awkward spaces- no fun! Love the new look!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room. I especially love the color and its effect on the Venetian plaster finish. So soft and airy and tasteful. I've always thought a potty room needed a touch of whimsy or humor too, so the prints are the perfect fit. I refinished my dining room in the VP finish too to avoid wallpaper removal. I want to soften it a little with the "washed" look, now that I see your bathroom. Was that applied as a last step and before a glaze, or no glaze?
ReplyDeleteAll I did was paint over the plaster. Just two coats of linen white paint by BM.
DeleteGot it. Great shade of white. Thx!
DeleteI'm not the only one who saw the irony of the caricature for a man to affirm he can make the shot - hanging in the bathroom, am I?
ReplyDeleteLove the caricatures, I had one made for my hubby years ago and he was golfing too and had a NY Jet jersey on. He keeps hoping they will win, LOL.
ReplyDeleteMuch better paint color LOL! but I remember when the old color was the latest rage. Thanks for the garbage bag over the toilet trick - smart idea!
ReplyDeleteMarie @ The Interior Frugalista
Love it Kim and the new color is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow what a gorgeous transformation....love that new color...cute caricatures!
ReplyDeleteI love the new paint colour! My living-room used to be painting in the exact two tones you had in your bathroom...
ReplyDeleteI have this room too in my master bath and definitely will need a makeover one of these days! love the simplicity of it, which it should, but since it's so tiny too, I'm thinking of going bold with mine with wallpaper - we'll see! thanks for sharing kim!
ReplyDeleteBathroom makeovers are high on my priority list and one of them is small. The lighter color makes it a bit more cheerful. Not something you usually think of with a bathroom is it?
ReplyDeleteI have a teeny tiny master bath that sorely needs an update. What you've done in this small space is perfect. That toilet paper basket is perfect! I'm not getting your posts by email anymore so I've started using Bloglovin. I'll be by more often now!
