When I finally got the French farm table and replaced my yellow table the yellow chairs seemed way too big and tall so I used my black chairs that are a bit smaller. Well, I love the yellow chairs and thought I would try them again. So I went to the hoarding storage room and brought them down one by one and took the black ones back upstairs one by one. Yep, I got a work out. You know what? I think I love them so it was worth it.
These chairs sit a bit higher and anyone with really large legs would not be able to sit comfortably, but no one in my family is big like that so these should work just fine.
I'm so glad I never sold the yellow ones.
I made a couple changes with the centerpiece. I bought this vintage French enamelware pitcher and replaced the smaller pitcher.
I brought my yellow bee bowls back out.
I picked up this cute little salt and pepper shakers chicken stand at the Pottery Barn outlet marked down plus 40% off. Now, Mr. Savvy can reach his salt easily.
So whatcha think?
Yellow or black?
Oh, and you can see the black ones here.
I looked back at the old post of the black chairs. Actually, I adore both...Maybe trade them out seasonally? I would definitely not sell any of them. It looks beautiful either way.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow by a landslide. They bring interest and liveliness to the space plus the scale is better too. Also that color is very Provence!! Love those rush seats.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely yellow! They make the entire room look bright & cheerful.
ReplyDeleteI think both sets work quite well, but my favorite is the yellow!
ReplyDeleteI liked both sets, but I have always loved the yellow ones.
ReplyDeleteYep, I like the pop of color that the yellow gives the room.
ReplyDeleteI like them both. The yellow chairs look very summery. Change to the black chairs in the fall.
ReplyDeleteLove them both too! Love how you "accessorize" adding the bee bowls with yellow chairs - they are really cute!
ReplyDeleteKim, the yellow gets my vote!! I'm crazy about yellow and I just think the yellow looks wonderful against the wood table! Now, must say, I do love the black too! For now, yellow it is!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Barbara above. Yellow for spring & summer, & the black ones for Autumn & winter. I love the rush seats.
ReplyDeleteI love them both! My thoughts immediately went to what a few others have said - switch them out seasonally. Great versatility!
ReplyDeleteYep, yellow summer and black winter. You also will, get two workouts a year!
ReplyDeleteAlways loved the yellow chairs Kim!
ReplyDeleteLove both ... the yellow looks great for the spring/summer seasons! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow with the red! But agree, the black would be nice for winter months.
ReplyDeleteI love it both ways but I think the yellow is fun for spring! This just proves that hoarding pays off :)
ReplyDeleteMy choice would be the black but probably because yellow is not a color I use much. I do think both look good and agree with what many have said about switching them out.
ReplyDeleteI love the bread board in place of a tray on the table.
Also looking foward to hearing about your weight loss plan.
I love having you on my sidebar, because then I can see right away when you post a new story. I'm always so curious to see what you come up with next. I think you are like me in a way - I've always said if I was on house arrest and forced to stay home for a year, I would be happy just playing and rearranging all my "things!" Your storage room would be like an amusement park to me!
ReplyDeleteLove the "yeller" chairs!
Good Morning Kim,
ReplyDeleteYep the pops of yellow from the chairs looks so bright and cheerful. Great choice to bring them back.
Kris
Love the yellow!
ReplyDeleteI like the pop of color the yellow gives to the room, but liked the black as well. I agree with several other comments to change them seasonally!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of keeping both sets and trading them out, too. The yellow is perfect for spring and summer and I think the chippy finish is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAngela @ Number Fifty-Three
Both look great, Kim. I'm thinking I would looove to raid your storage room! ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteKeep the yellow for spring and summer and bring the black chairs back for winter!
Either way, your eating area will look great!
Thanks so such a beautiful blog. You definitely have an eye for color and décor! Keep up the great work!
Cyndee Jones
Love the yellow but I agree with the others. Don't get rid of the black ones. They're gorgeous, too.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely yellow...I vote yellow!!...great vignette too!....I have at least a dozen chairs in the attic...extra chairs always come in handy!!!....You could bring back the black for Fall...
ReplyDeleteLove them both…beautiful space either way!
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow, esp. since you have the red curtains back.......now looks like a happy and welcoming room!!!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely keep both sets Kim to switch out every so often... but I really love the yellow chairs especially with the red check curtains!
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot... love the vignette too!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the yellow and the cute vignette on the table is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI like them both. Its nice that you can switch them out like that whenever you want a change. The yellow is nice for the summer too.
ReplyDeleteI think both of them look great, Kim! Maybe the black ones for winter and the yellow for summer? (Or whenever you want a good workout! : )
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow for summer and black for fall and winter....so fun to be able to switch chairs out.
ReplyDeleteLove the centerpiece...
Nancy
I have always loved those yellow chairs--and I think they are simply perfect with the table and the curtains! It is so great to have the option of changing out chairs and accessories. The table is so gorgeous--what an exciting find for you and it it perfect in your home...
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow for summer and spring...blk ones for the rest of the year...I guess you could mix and match them...that could be interesting if you tied it together right...or maybe not!
ReplyDeleteI think both look good. The yellow chairs go with some decorations better than the black and the other way around. I like the yellow on the lazy Susan and how it pulls the room more together.
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow chairs and the centerpiece is perfect!
ReplyDeleteBoth looked great. I love how you pulled the yellow into your vignette!
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't like a good change out once in a while! I think the yellow is perfect for spring and summer and love how you brought in more yellow with your tabletop decor! Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they look large - I think they look perfect Kim! Especially with your other yellow accents! Perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteFrom the start of your blog I have been passionate about the yellow chairs. They look terrific with the antique table. I have just returned from PB Outlet. xo, olive
ReplyDeleteI like both but the pop of yellow is fun for spring and summer.
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer the yellow chairs. They look great with your accents of yellow here and there on the table. Love your curtains also. Yellow always makes me feel good!
ReplyDeleteJudy
The yellow chairs look great! Perfect for that country french look! ;)
ReplyDeleteLuAnn
Oh luv them!!! But then I have always luved the yellow chairs. A bright pop of colour . Then I popped over to reacquaint myself with the black ones. Sigh... I luv them as well! Keep 'em both! : ) Trade out as the whim hits... win win, plus you get a workout . :)
ReplyDeleteHugs, Gee
Yellow is my favorite color, but I see what you mean by the reduced leg room. Would you consider cutting the legs of the yellow chairs about 1 1/2 to 2 inches? You'd be sitting at a more "normal" height, and the lovely backs would still make a statement.
ReplyDeleteKim, I like the yellow. A touch of yellow in your breakfast rooms really says "happy" to me. Looks great with the drapes and really brightens the room. It pays to keep things stored and rotate them in and out.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the yellow for Soring and Summer and then the blck ones can come back for Fall and Winter!!! Thank goodness you keep everything:):) It sure comes in handy, huh??? Love how you accessorized the table, LOVE the bee bowls!!
ReplyDeleteTYPO!!! Spring and Summer:)
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow ones with your farm table.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Nothing says summer like yellow and red together. One of my fav outfits ( when I was a stick figure) was a yellow cotton dress with a skinny red belt and little red flats...you color choice makes me smile....love it.
ReplyDeleteKim I really like t he yellow with the red curtains. It is so bright and cheery for the warmer weather. Screams farm house. I would have a problem with them because my family has long legs and they are tall.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Black always finishes a room like the outline in coloring books!.... but for summer the yellow ones are a nice lighter change. Agree with others... red and yellow together feels like happiness.
ReplyDeleteI like them both! I think the yellow ones are perfect for spring, though and they look really great with your blue and yellow vignette. I love the enamel pitcher!
ReplyDeleteThe yellow chairs just pop! They look so good. Love the centerpiece too.
ReplyDeleteyellow for spring summer and fall-- black for winter:)
ReplyDeleteWow, Kimmie! This looks so lovely.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Okay, I guess I'm going to be the only one with a dogmatic opinion....
ReplyDeletethe black are MUCH nicer then the yellow!!!!!!!!......the black look much
nicer with that farmhouse table!!!!!!
Corinne
The yellow is pure sunshine; the perfect way to start any morning. So glad you boldly went with what brings you joy. :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough the yellow looks nice it seems to compete too much with everything else. I like the black chairs with the smaller amounts of yellow in the accessories....IMHO.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI think you can have great confidence in both looks! It IS hard to choose and that's a good thing. :-) You can change your chairs with your moods. Yellow is lovely for the warmth of sun-filled days and, a more casual look and black is sophisticated. LOVE them both. You have good taste in chairs!
Linda at Beautiful Ideas
I can't choose! They both look great, but I love the yellow ones for sunny days of spring/summer, and the black ones for fall/winter. Just think - you wouldn't need to go to the gym, you can just keep moving your chairs! Or have a chair-moving party and invite 5 other people for lunch after they each swap a chair!
ReplyDeleteI remember loving the black chairs when you first introduced the table and now I'm also loving how it all looks with the yellow ones! Keep both sets and just have fun! btw I love all the goodies on the table too :)
ReplyDeleteI prefer the yellow. It seems more French to me.
ReplyDeleteBoth colors have their own character and each gives a great look. I agree, change seasonally as desired. If the table is too low for the chairs, how about adding antique looking wheels or casters or even small stained, turned blocks of wood to table legs to make it a little taller?
ReplyDeleteFirst time commenting. Setting aside the topic of "color," I think your French country chairs look more appropriate with your authentic antique French country table. I mean, you went to all the way to freaking France to buy the thing! Can't tell if your French country chairs are authentic antiques, but if they aren't, they're very good reproductions.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Storehouse chairs, it sounds as though they still hold a lot of sentimental value for you, but, in my opinion, using them brings down the look of your wonderful antique French table. The Storehouse chairs look like exactly what they are: the quality (and style) of furniture that young couples buy, just like the younger Mr. and Mrs. Savvy. Likewise, hasn't Pottery Barn always had chairs very similar to these?
It appears, from following your blog, that your design knowledge and taste has continued to mature and become more sophisticated. I'm just saying that your wonderful table deserves a set of chairs that enhances the design look, not diminishes it. Let's say you didn't own either set of these chairs. What style and quality of chairs would you look for to go with this table?
Thanks, Mona. No sentimental hold on the black chairs. Just very well made and have just hung onto them in case we need extra seating which we have several times. The yellow ones are cheap reproductions. Yes, they are very French country looking, but were made in Indonesia. Maybe one day I will get a real set of antique chairs that fit the table better. I do love the look of the yellow ones they are just a bit large for the smaller size of the table. The black Storehouse ones are actually a much better quality.
DeleteI agree with a few others who said keep both.... switch 'em up you know... just in case!! :) .... but I beg you.... (just kidding of course) ... do not sell the yellow ones..... I loved them from the first time I "toured" your home via the blog!! I am in love with those yellow chairs!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove that pop of color, those chairs look beautiful with your table!

Kim, I read this post yesterday AM but didn't have time to comment... Now I see that I am in with the Switch em up seasonally crowd! :) Love the little Bee Bowls too!
ReplyDeleteThe yellow chairs do make that area pop and look great for the summer, but I agree keep the black for the winter, especially Christmas time. I could see those chairs with red Christmas decorations. So if you've got room to keep them, definitely keep the black and the yellow.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with decorating!
MJ
Somehow I missed this post even though I noticed that you had changed the chairs back to the yellow ones. I still covet these chairs and when I get a windfall somehow, I plan to buy something as close to them as possible. I had bought some second-hand arrow-back chairs that I thought would work...and they did for a couple of years. However, after a couple of spills due to the leg braces splitting and breaking, they are all gone, now. I'm back to the chairs we had five years ago when Mike and I first married and combined households. They aren't comfortable but they are sturdy! Someday...
