This is the first thing you see when you open the door. Yes, I am a hoarder, junk keeper, or whatever else you want to call it.
To the right.
There is absolutely no organization in this room.
Lampshade anyone? How about the treadmill under it all?
At least some of this stuff will be used soon.
Remember the nautical guest room? Well this is the shelves and decor from that room.
This old bookcase/entertainment unit is old as dirt that we purchased many moons ago for our first home.
This rocking chair was given to me when I was pregnant with my son. It is time to move it on since he didn't want it.
Yep, never is used.
Soon I will be going through this stuff and loading up my new SUV and taking many loads to the consignment shop.
The black chairs will stay.
Will use a truck to take the yellow farm table.
There are boxes and tubs and crap everywhere and it has got to go.
So sorry for the ugliness today, but this is real life and many of y'all have requested to see the room I shop from. Some stuff will stay and be moved to shelving that we still need to get for the storage room in the garage. The rest will go to the consignment shop and Goodwill or Restore.
Have a fabulous week!
I don't think you're a real hoarder, Kim. You're just someone who has a passion for decorating and you like to have things to make changes in your home. My kids just went back to school today, so my mission is to sell or get rid of stuff in our home too!
ReplyDeletei had to laugh looking at your pics kim....reminds me of my storage building(s)! 2 in the backyard and a house down in the country...at least that one is pretty empty! 2 years ago we had a massive yard sale and i THOUGHT i got rid of a lot of things but now you can't even walk in our largest storage building anymore...i hope i have the energy (and time) to clean it out and get rid of some things when the weather cools off.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing and "keeping it real"!
Actually this looks like a fun room to scour through for treasures!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
hey Kim, I have a junk closet I shop from. I like to change things up too! Also if you are interested you can donate to Wellspringliving.org. We have 4 upscale resale/thrift stores. 2 are in Duluth. We are an Atlanta based non profit for DMST survivors. (Domestic minor sex trafficked girls). I volunteer each week and would be happy to take a load for you. Thanks! Christy
ReplyDeleteTreasures in your own home - fun to change things around - keeps things fresh and fun! Goodwill will make out pretty good with your haul! Good luck parting with your items!
ReplyDeleteThat's some great stuff! Just needs organized and shelved... but yeah - great stuff. Reminds me that I need to work at my 'shop from' space... :)
ReplyDeleteWish I had a whole room I could devote to all my decorating stuff! Most of it is stashed wherever I can fit it ~ in bins in the basement, closets, trunks, etc. Makes it hard to remember all of what I have. You've made me think about the fact that I should do a de-stashing soon!
ReplyDeletexo Kathleen
Its' always hard to let go. Its' the fear of loss.
ReplyDeleteJust think how someone else will enjoy your pieces.
The hardest will be keeping this room empty.
I'm actually pretty jealous of your hoarding room - we have next to no storage space in our home and it's a challenge! I'm sure it will feel good when you get around to doing your purging (and then you'll have space for new treasures :)
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I've been in my basement for the last month trying to purge & reorganize (still not finished). Each time I stack boxes of trash and load my car of donations it feels soo good. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteCould I please shop your hoarding room? That would be heaven for me. Are there chairs that go with the yellow table? I know you are using the ones that came with the table. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us. Have a great Monday. Sheila
ReplyDeleteYEAH! I have been waiting to see your hoarding room. I think a lot of your readers would love to shop it!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing this post today Kim so I know I'm not alone!!! I just said to the hubby the other day we really need to get in our storage room and tackle it!! I just gave a wooden rocker away to my younger cousin who's having a baby this Fall...at least I made a start ;-)
ReplyDeleteJunk room, or treasure trove? It's all in how you frame it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI could do some serious shopping in that room! Wish I had an extra room just for "stuff"!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain...have a room in our basement that looks the same. You have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteThat's some mighty nice hoarding. I would love to have some of the stuff in there.
ReplyDeleteThis room has lots of possibility!!...I spy some nice treasures there!..
ReplyDeleteSo, Kim... What consignment store do you stock? I'll have to make a trip! :-)
ReplyDeleteYup, right now, it is our "guest" room....Hubby is going through his Dad's things, I have the outdoor cushions in there, extra this and that....yup...it does seem to happen.
ReplyDeletethanks for the real life shot! It made all of us feel a bit better, knowing it happens!
Nancy
I wish I lived near your consignment shop cause I would be there shopping!!!! Saw several things I would love to have! You are far from a hoarder, you just love to change things. And WE love those changes, always! You are barve to put it out there, good for you!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad Kim my attic is packed with stuff. I'm starting to clean it out too.
ReplyDeleteKathy
I think I would love to come shopping in there myself!! We all have it whether its the junk room or the basement. Mine are in the basement with loads of plastic tubs. It does feel good to purge what your not using and move on.
ReplyDeleteThis is some great stuff but I know what you mean. Moving into the new house we have scaled back many items. Some went to Goodwill and some just went, very old and not in good shape. I only saved the items I really love and will want to change out in that house. All my stuff will be on shelves in our huge attic. I don't have quite the arsenal you have, LOL.
ReplyDeleteCindy
LOL ... thanks for keeping it real, love it! Hope you guys had a fabulous vacation!
ReplyDeleteOh Kim that looks like my shed and that's after I cleaned it LOL. I need to purge again too.
ReplyDeleteAs the song in the Disney movie says...Let it go...let it go. And you'll feel really great afterwards. I did (very successful yard sale) and now I'm very selective when I'm out thrifting. We are all blessed indeed!
ReplyDeleteI have a guest room like that, but not as many pretty things as you! And the garage, the office and under the stairs!
ReplyDeleteLuv it! I am itching to shop this room lady! :)
ReplyDeleteFeeling nice and relaxed after you foray in my home state?? Hoping you had am great time.
Hugs, Gee
I have a similar room in my house Kim, although mine is not as big as yours! Wow! I wanna go 'shop' there!!!! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you let us see your room! I always feel bad that I have a room like that since all of the rooms on the blogs are so perfect. I think we all needed to see this! Thank you for sharing and keepin' it real!
Blessings
I'd sure love to shop your hoarding room, Kim! I could trade you some things from my hoarding closets!
DeleteThis is great! I have a room where I store merchandise for my booth and it gets quite crowded and annoying so it is refreshing to see so many of us have this sort of crazy space. It is real life for sure. Thanks for sharing! Kathy eclecticallydesigned.com
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI really love your hoarder room. It looks like a fun place to find some great treasures.
Kris
How wonderful to see this room!!! I see a lot of neat stuff in there.......and I always loved the yellow farm table.....boo, hoo....... My basement, garage, spare room, and my studio look a lot like this!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a garage that looks like that. I have everything in tubs that you can see through. I have different area for each season, but I'm still bad about putting things in the proper bins. Now it's time to get all the Fall decorating items - so will have to do some purging.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Kim.
Mary
At least your storage room is air conditioned and heated. Mine is in the basement and not very well lit or climate controlled. Wish I had a space like yours to store my stuff in. I'm sure your stuff will sell quickly since it's all so nice.
ReplyDeleteHA! I have one too. It's the 3rd car garage. and recently, my husband told me the crap really bugged him. He has never said anything... but it was enough to motivate me to have a garage sale. I made a lot of $$ but best feeling was clearing it all out. I still have to have another few sales but I'm making progress and that counts. I have to also remember that everything cute or priced well at the thrift store does not need to come live at my house! lol
ReplyDeleteIs there a method to the madness when it comes to finding things? Or do you just put your waders on and soldier on? (I'm laughing)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Honestly, Kim... this is nothing compared to my basement. You get a big pass on this room because the rest of you home is all awesomeness!!!
ReplyDeleteKim, it's great to have a nice big space to "store" these things. My attic is full and so are all the closets in our home. This kind of storage would be dreamy! '-)
ReplyDeleteKim- You are so lucky to have a room for all of your props and furniture. I know it is frustrating when it is a mess but with shelves and weeding out things, it will be much easier for you to find things. We downsized 4 years ago, and I have 2 good size storage units we rent, and I still am missing things. At this point I am thinking that maybe I should put things in a consignment shop! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKim, I have a room just like that. LOL I have two Goodwill boxes ready to go, they just need to be put in the SUV. Its been over a month now......LOL
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful to see normalcy! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the real life stories. You're not a hoarder. You just like to rotate your collections and change things around. I think many of us have rooms like this. I have a hoarding section in my basement. every now and the. I have to do a major purge if I haven't used something in a long time. Then it's time to have a garage sale. glad we finally got to see where you keep your stash of home goods!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see I am not the only one. Luckily I "finished" up our guestroom this past weekend so our hoarding room has now become just a hoarding closet...but of course I haven't done any thrift shopping lately so it could soon turn into a room again. ;) Thanks for keeping it real.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! Have a big garage sale! I wish I lived near where you donate your goodies. Such wonderful things there...love that cow head!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honesty...I have a room similar to yours.
I always wondered where you hoarders, I mean bloggers kept your things. It's nice to know you are as normal as me. ;) I use a room in my basement that my son used to use as a music room where I keep my things and the things that I sell in my Etsy shop, besides shipping boxes and packing supplies. I don't think your room looks that bad. You shouldn't be embarrassed! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWould love to come organize your room. I love to organize!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, come on and I have several closets that need to be done, too. :)
DeleteI love to organize and would love to tackle that room!!!
ReplyDeleteI am cracking up here! I would have never guessed Kim had such a room in her gorgeous home! You really made me feel better today about my own hoard!
ReplyDeleteThat's what my studio looked like a week ago! I am feeling the need for less,so believe it or not I have not been shopping anywhere! I will be listing more in my shop in the next week!
ReplyDeleteHoney, you haven't seen ugly!
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile.
Whoa Kim, you will feel great when this room is decluttered. Can't wait to see the *after* and how you use the space. Love this post!
ReplyDeleteKim I have a feeling when the boys are gone our little bonus room will look like this. Is this where I spied that rooster pillow? I think it was, and I still use that pillow, thank you very much! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow, Kim, what a wonderful space! With all of the decor things you have, this room could be set up almost like a store for your ease of "shopping the house." You just need to ask Mr. Savvy to build you a bunch of shelves and then you could have it so organized. You might even be able to use that treadmill while you think up all those wonderful decor ideas!
ReplyDeleteKim...I loved it that you got so "real" with all of us! All of us have a stash somewhere! Your junk is "junque"..."classy stuff" that you just rotate, and redp from time to time...so you aren't really a hoarder! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year in all of your creativity and new endeavors, as you keep us all inspired!
Linda @ Truthful Tidbits
