I decided to use it in the master next to the reading chair. Bet you didn't guess that.
After cleaning it and waxing it the colors really popped.
This blue reminds me of the blue shutters on homes in France.
I have always wanted to use a salvage piece like this, but I have limited wall space in this house with so many windows.
Now when I sit in this chair I can look at this piece and remember Mr. Savvy rolling his eyes at me like I was nuts for wanting this.
I may buy a plug in sconce and attach it to the shutter, but for now the brass floor lamp works fine.
So next time you're out and see a junkie chippy nasty shutter maybe you will be inspired to use it in some way.
Your shutter is wonderful, Kim. I love the blue on it too. I think when our hubbies roll their eyes, that means we're onto something good ~ the bigger the eye roll, the better! : )
ReplyDeleteLove the color of the shutter, it looks great in your space and I bet it can be used several places in your home. Great score.
ReplyDeleteLooks great there Kim...love the idea of adding a plugin sconce!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that old shutter! The color is great. I particularly like the latch on it. I would like to find an old shutter some time.
ReplyDeleteI love the shutter, so chippy and beautiful and looks perfect in your room! What a great find!
ReplyDeleteI just love it, Kim and you found the perfect spot! The colors are amazing and love way you did the antler!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great there!

ReplyDeleteLove it there...and the sconce sounds great to go on the shutter!!!....Now you can sit there and reminisce about France!
ReplyDeleteI love it and it looks great. My hubby would have rolled his eyes if it was mine............they just can not see the beauty in junk as we can :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Kim, I guessed door. I love this beauty. I am on the hunt for an old door or shutter this fall.

I bet it brings back so many memories of your trip to France. I love it here, and love the colors!
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, what a beautiful purchase. I luved it when you shared the sneak peek... but now , waxed and all it is stunning! I have been looking... sigh. NO luck.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Kim! I like how you have it by your reading chair. Very cozy.
ReplyDeleteI want one now!!!! I love where you placed it!!! And, after cleaning it up a bit, it's such a cool piece.
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd find the perfect spot, and you did!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shutter. Great character piece.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great old piece, Kim. Looks like the perfect spot for it to me!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Kim! I love the hardware and antler!
ReplyDeleteYour shutter is gorgeous! It's a perfect addition to that corner and don't get me started on the lamp... :)
ReplyDeleteKim! This looks fabulous and I love your touch of the baby antlers on the shutter. Now how do you mean that you waxed the shutter? Do you mean just the hardware or the entire shutter? Inquiring minds :) I have tons of old windows and shutter-like things cuz I live in an old house with extra stuff lying around.
ReplyDeleteI paint a lot of furniture and have waxes for paint. I waxed the whole shutter to seal it since most likely the paint has lead in it.
Deletethanks
I love the shutter door, and would love it anywhere. I have my grandfathers door from his 200 + year old farm house when he past away I was able to take one of the doors that was no longer used in the home and now it leans against the wall in my sitting room, wish I had more walls to lean it on in my small French cottage that is limited in wall space for such a boor.
ReplyDeletethank you for this beautiful share, I am on the watch out for a door narrower like yours.
See you and all the beauty you create soon!

I am going to admit...I am a tad jealous....love that chippy shutter!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a cozy spot, Kim. Love the shutter in all it's chipiness and especially the hardware! Waxing is a great tip to keep the paint from flaking off. I'm definitely going to have to do this with one of the old window frames in my living room.
ReplyDeleteHow did you clean it? Did you use a brush or cloths? I have an old piece that has been outside and has some dirt in the cracks and crevices and I'm not sure of the best way to clean it without damaging it. The wax is a great idea! That had never occurred to me. Your shutter is way cute! I'm jealous, too.
ReplyDeletePatti, I just cleaned it with a rag and soapy water. The bottom of it was covered in dirt.
