Today I'm sharing a unique fall door idea. Thank goodness I can throw an idea that is in my head at Mr. Savvy and he can make it turn out just like I was hoping. I knew I wanted to hang a bushel basket on the front door, but wasn't sure how to make it work.
I already had the bushel basket and I grabbed this piece of rope from another basket that I wasn't using anymore. Then the mister figured out where the rope needed to be attached to make it hang correctly on the door. He then poked holes in the basket and attached the rope with floral wire.
He also added a loop of wire to hang with and tada it was done.
He made it so it would hang at an angle so the apples could be seen.
So the basket is done and now it is my turn to add the goods. I thought I could use styrofoam, but it would not stick to the basket so that idea was scratched.
I filled the basket with this filler, but if I had just placed the apples on top they were going to fall out especially every time the door was opened and closed. So what to do?
I knew I had to add pics to the FAKE apples. I drove a nail in each apple to make a hole for the pics to go in. Then I just stuck the pic in the straw type filler and it worked! Each apple was staying in place.
Next up was the sign. I knew we had a pallet under the deck that was not being used so I asked Mr. Savvy to rip me off one of the boards and that it did not need to be perfect. Good thing because he had a time getting one off. I told him to break it and not worry about how it looked. I wanted it to look like a crude handmade sign on the side of the road that you see before an apple stand.
I grabbed my can of red paint and a small paint brush and free handed apples.
It turned out just like the vision in my head.
Another DIY done with teamwork.
Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteYou two are a dynamic duo! LOVE the tilted basket idea. I can't do any porch decorating yet... they are going to tackle the façade of the house starting in two weeks along with the rest of the interior work. Arghhhh... living through the dust and noise ahead. LOL! I'm going to enjoy everyone else's beautiful homes until then. ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteWhat a great team you are!!! It turned out perfectly. Now here's a designer tip. Put several strips of duct tape on the bottom of your basket and then you can glue the floral foam to the basket and it will stick!! I do this whenever I am using a basket for a container!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your apple basket! Those are some real looking fake apples! Great job!

Aaawh! What a sweet idea for fall. Your neighbors probably get plenty of entertainment watching you come up with unique ideas year around. Eye candy.
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmie, you crazy gal! Who would have thought about putting a bushel basket on their front door?? This is so cute and glad you figured out a way to keep the apples in. I'll bet you're the only one with a basket like this on your door. I'm finally getting around to visiting my friends. I've been so busy with our move, well, still am, but wanted to pop in to say hi.

It turned out great. You two make a great team!
ReplyDeleteThis idea is really fun, Kim! So cute!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute and clever! Just one question, though, how did you attach the sign?
ReplyDeleteI attached two nails to the top of the sign and used wire and it is hanging on the nail on the door.
DeleteOh, silly me! I see the wire now! Great job!
DeleteOh, I love it! Team work at its best. :)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea they were fake apples when I saw them yesterday. You're lucky to have share your life with someone who can make your visions come true!
