On Saturday I gave you some peeks at what will be coming up in future posts. One of those things is this wonderful old chippy shutter that I found last week. Yep, chippy, rusty and wonderful.
A little ride into the mountains last week prompted me to stop by the salvage place in Otto, NC where I also found my butcher block and the salvage piece for my pot rack. This time I started looking at his doors and shutters and found this beauty.
I looked at them while Mr. Savvy sat in the car again and he looked at me like I had four heads when he saw this coming out to the car. At first I thought this was a door, but the mister informed me that it is a shutter that locks and latches from either in or out.
This is the back side with another latch. The darker spots are where the wood was drying after I washed this thing down. It was filthy. The owner of the salvage place said it came from Britain. Looks like it had set in a nasty cold basement or something for quite some time.
The back side has hardly any paint left on it, but I love the blue color left on the front.
I cleaned it good and then used hemp oil and clear wax to seal it.
Now it is looking much better.
So where did I place it? Well, you will just have to wait and see.
Also if you follow me on instagram then you know I have been a crazy painting fool. I worked on two projects this weekend and finished them. Today the paint brush is put away and I'm going shopping!

If it didn't come from "a nasty cold basement", would you have ever wanted it? Nice find!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous piece. Can't wait to see where you used it. Very suspenseful!
ReplyDeletePopping in to say Hi-What a GREAT old piece. Love the color on it.
ReplyDeleteLove it.:)
ReplyDeleteKim, that shutter is AWESOME! I can hardly wait to see where you use it.

The shutter is incredible. Miss Mustard Seed (Marian) is featuring a new product on her blog used to seal paint. I don't think hemp oil and wax will prevent paint from chipping off and there is always the possibility of lead in old paint.
ReplyDeleteOh Kim. Love!!!! I cannot wait to see where you put that sweet chippy piece of charm. Hopefully my house LOL!

What a great piece Kim! Can't wait to see where it will end up.
ReplyDeleteI love the weathered look and the colors. Any hints on where you are going to put it? Great weekend to shop! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when you said Mr. Savvy looked at you like you had 4 heads! Will they ever stop looking at us like that??? Can't wait to see where you put it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful piece Kim. Don't we just love those looks we get from our hubby's!;) Mine made me smile today. HE actually went to drive by a pile that somebody had sat at the street to see if there was anything good. I was impressed.
ReplyDeleteLove that old shutter! The latch on it and the bit of blue color make it extra special. Can't wait to see where you used it.
ReplyDeleteEager to see your new projects.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful ! The hardware is fantastic !
ReplyDeleteI laughed at Mr Savvy looking at you like you have 4 heads - John would do the exact same thing -
Too funny :)
Love it! The chippy paint and the hardware, latches, can't wait to see where you put it!
ReplyDeleteLove that cool find, can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this?...love that gorgeous shutter...will have to try the hemp oil on one of my finds...looking forward to seeing where it lands...and good thing that Mr. Savvy knew exactly what it was!...Yes, I think our hubbies often look at us with "quadruple vision"
