One of those things that says fall to me are squirrels. Those cute overgrown rats with fluffy tails that like to chew on our house yet I like to decorate with them. I set this one, that I found at an antique mall a couple years ago, on a stack of books
I also like adding texture. I attached a wicker charger to the vintage breadboard and added a clay pot and apples to the scale.
You will see me use apples a lot this time of year. I may start using some pumpkins in October and November.
Here is my other little squirrel that I have had for several years. It has even got chipped places on it from me dropping it more than once.
I moved some pillows around (imagine that) and brought in this dog pillow from the sitting room.
This little pillow has moved all over the house. It never stays put for long.
Have you ever smelled dying sunflowers? Well, they smell like poop. I would walk past the mantel and smell what I thought was poop and was wondering if Miss Bailey had an accident which is not like her. Then it dawned on me it was the sunflowers in the pots. Well, they are gone and now we have wheat. Thank goodness that won't ever stink.
I'm on my way to Shirley's to attend the Liberty Antiques Festival this weekend!
Have a good one and be sure not to miss tomorrow's favorite room.

okay....it hate squirrels and poop smell. But what I do love is that scale. Everytime I see it I can't help but think about coming over and loading it into my car! Have fun with shirley. honk when you pass by my exit.
ReplyDeleteI love that scale too! Everytime I read this Kim's blog, I see that vintage scale and am green with envy. I have three small vintage scales and really have no place for one like this ... but I don't care! I want it!!!

ReplyDeleteI love your fall touches. Have fun this weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as always! :)
ReplyDeleteI can feel the fall in your house!! Enjoy your festival! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that breadboard with the pottery in front of it...beautiful combination.
ReplyDeleteI thought my house was the only ones the squirrels tried to eat...we have the concrete siding and the corners are chewed off all around the house. I think they are using the concrete to sharpen their teeth for nut cracking time!
I always enjoy seeing what you've been doing.

It looks lovely as always!
ReplyDeleteIn South Georgia I often see fox squirrels. They have a thicker coat and a big, bushy tail. They also tend to
ReplyDeletehave some white areas of fur. Love to watch them. They come in the fall to feed in pecan trees.
Looks gorgeous as always...and you have such magnificent collections to draw from and decorate for any season!!....Love the pillow "shuffle"...
ReplyDeleteLove all the Fall touches, especially the wheat on the mantle :0)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend,
Suzanne
Great touches Kim, love your squirrels and the dog pillow on the sofa. Noticed that right away. Have a great time with Shirley. Cute story about the sunflowers and Miss Bailey.

Love your ideas Kim! thank you!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Kim! I didn't know that drying sunflowers smelled so bad! I din't have a great sense of smell, so I wouldn't have noticed anyway. But my family would! My oldest came for a weekend visit from college. After he had left I found a bottle of Lysol spray in his bathroom. I didn't have any before he came home. Guess he is politely telling me his bathroom didn't smell good. Or maybe he...I won't even go there! haha
ReplyDeleteLovely touches of fall decor! Have a great week.

House on the Way
Full of grace and charm....beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI looks very warm and inviting. The squirrels scattered about really do say Fall!
ReplyDeleteI love that squirrel on the books, but my hubby would shoot me and the squirrel if I brought him in the house! Same problem with squirrels and our house. They have even been known to hang from the gutters w while we yelling at them and looking at us as to say, "You talking to me?" Pacino style.
ReplyDeleteI love your dog pillow...everything looks so Fall...love it! Have fun antiquing!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved your squirrels, Kim. I live with one...a BIG one! I do think they are cute-even though they can be destructive.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that clay pot on the scale. I don't think I ever noticed it before...but I must have missed it somewhere along the line.
Have fun with Shirley. I know you always do. Can't wait to see what treasures you gals find!
SO charming. Love it all! And your photos are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty Kim. Love the fall touches. Have fun with Shirley and Mary Alice this week end. I bet the Market will be great. Enjoy.

Looks wonderful Kim. You reminded me of my squirrel similar to yours, on pine cone. I need to look for it. I don't think it is packed away. Hope I can find it...I can bring it out, for a bit of Fall!
ReplyDeleteI love the squirrels! The perfect touch for fall! I just wish they didn't eat most pine cones I find when I walk around the cottage ;)
ReplyDeleteEverything is so pretty ! I love the fall touches -- especially the squirrels. I didn't know sunflowers smelled bad either-- but all foliage that will be under water should be stripped so it won't smell as it decays. Wonder if that would make any difference? You're great to use fresh flowers. Such a pretty touch in a home.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the antique fair you're attending. I wish I was going!! It looks wonderful. I can't wait to see what you bring home :)
ReplyDeleteThese are all such great suggestions! Will you come to my house and tweak my decor a bit!!
ReplyDeleteI love the sideboard vignette...that cutting board is awesome! Where did you find the handled charger?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, Kim.
I ordered those years ago from Nell Hill's on line shop. Thanks
DeleteLovely touches Kim!
